"Ocean Eyes" came to mind immediately upon seeing the thread title.

The Less I Know the Better would be on this list in a few years. Did not chart on the Hot 100 but have been getting consistent plays everywhere.

Most songs from 2017, especially Post Malone's "Congratulations", James Arthur's "Say You Won't Let Go", and Lil Uzi Vert's "XO Tour Lilif3". I feel like they are very successful despite peaking #8, #11, and #7 respectively.

I just saw that "Worth It" by Fifth Harmony only peaked #12. It felt like a top 10 at least.

For a song that just bubbled under, The Beastie Boys's Sabotage seems to be well remembered today.

Wake Me Up only peaking at #4 is quite insane; it felt like a top 3 hit, maybe even a #1 song.

Bad Romance felt like a #1 How lol Wdym, Bad Romance is a CLASSIC song. It got stuck behind Empire State of Mind, which is a good song itself but it's not remembered really because you can't stream it anywhere other than Tidal and then it got blocked by Tik Tok. It is Gaga's signature song.

Recent example but Sunflower feels much bigger than a song that only peaked at #1 for a single week

A good chunk of the most streamed songs of the 00s on Spotify had relatively modest peaks for how big they ended up being, if they even charted at all. You'd expect all of these to have reached #1 but three of them have.
1. Lose Yourself - 812m (#1) 2. I'm Yours - 807m (#6) 3. Mr Brightside - 778m (#10) 4. The Scientist - 753m (N/A) 5. Till I Collapse - 744m (N/A) 6. Halo - 694m (#5) 7. In The End - 656m (#2) 8. Stronger - 613m (#1) 9. Viva La Vida - 605m (#1) 10. Seven Nation Army - 600m (#76)

Someone might’ve already said this, but Coldplay’s “Fix You” peaking at #59 will always be a surprise to me considering that it’s one of their signature songs. “Clocks” definitely felt bigger than its peak as well.

"Family Portrait" only peaked #20. I'm shocked. I consider this song as one of Pink's classics.
I also thought "The Greatest" by Sia bigger than #18.

Bad Guy feels like a #1 hit to me. Ditto Señorita and Truth Hurts. Cross Me stalling at #25 was sad too. Felt like a bigger hit to me. This post didn't age well lol. Happy the first three all eventually hit #1. Goes to show that there really isn’t much of a difference between a #1 and or most songs that go top 5. To me “Someone You Loved” doesn’t feel like a #1 right now, but more like a top 5.

Mr Brightside peaking at #10 in the US is a crime.
It's been charting in the UK for like 15 years lol

Had to come back to this thread to post Sia’s “Chandelier”. It felt like a Top 5 hit & number 1 Pop Songs hit minimum. It remains one of the most memorable and recognizable songs of the decade, and the music video was a cultural moment.
Also - idk if it’s because my local pop station spun it a lot, but I could have SWORN that “Take Over Control” by Afrojack & Eva Simons was a top 10 hit.
