I was expecting at least 220k in sales. That's a low figure.

How does everyone know people love the music to be a streaming monster for so long??? Are any songs getting huge hype yet?? I'm Upset" didn't set the world on fire. Maybe other's won't either.

Those updated numbers are severely underwhelming or even.. dare I say.. floppy.

*******I had no idea drake didn’t release physical copies. It all makes sense now. I didn’t expect significantly bigger numbers, just higher than he got and I think if it was physically available it would’ve been at least another 100k+ stronger. Thank you everyone for pointing that out Views was sold exclusively on iTunes during the release week and opened with 850k so lack of physical sales isn't to blame. What do you make of the increase in streams, then? There's clearly been a shift from sales to streams since Views - just looking at the Scorpion ratio - no? Do you think sales are still a fair gauge for success when streaming is so high for an artist, and vice versa? Do you recognize that digital sales have disappeared as people join streaming services in the last year or two? I feel like each case is different these days, because album launches vary so much with exclusives, digital- or streaming-only, etc. It's hard to compare one artist/album to another, when the rollouts and consumption habits vary so much.

It seems like Nonstop, Don't Matter To Me, Summer Games, and Emotionless are the most talked about songs besides the singles on social media.

725-775k SPS is not floppy. Right. To me, calling this floppy is where it becomes less about real analysis, and more about dogging on the artist and/or their numbers... just to dog on them. It's seems very stan-war-ish and transparent, it never fails, and it's too bad. I get that it's less than what was first reported, but come on. He broke a streaming record. If record setting sales were the goal, the rollout would have been different. I'd also like to say that it was very recently that I posted about Drake having potentially peaked already, and his days of hugeness are numbered like everyone else's. So, I'm not defending his numbers, I'm actually not surprised if they end up down and will go down further with each release. But while everything is so divided with streaming and sales, it takes a lot of looking under the hood when analyzing numbers, regardless. Comparing artist's first weeks is far from apples to apples.

Never ever thought I’d see someone with 3/4ths of a million in “sales” called a flop holy shit man.

You gotta remember, the album isn't even out psychically yet. Yeah those sales numbers are low, but digital sales are in the toilet so who cares? The fact that he's been streamed over 300 million times in a few days is incredible.

Curious to see how many weeks Scorpion can spend at #1. I think a strong album could dethrone it even in its 2nd week - I'm expecting maybe around 220-250k SPS then, but it could remain above 100-150k SPS until Nicki/Ariana's releases and I'm not sure if any of the albums scheduled until then can top that.
Have any predictions been made for Gorillaz and Florence? I feel like they could have decent pure sales. Not sure if it would be enough to challenge Drake but they do seem similar to other alternative/indie acts that have sold well recently.

Never ever thought I’d see someone with 3/4ths of a million in “sales” called a flop holy s**t man. If ADELE or Taylor do those numbers with their next releases, you bet that would be the consensus - even if they end up being the best-selling album of that year. Drake is setting a new bar with streaming, but just like iTunes' early years, that bar was raised multiple times for the next 5-7 years.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Adele and Taylor transition to streaming too. Their albums being on Spotify day 1 isn't out of the question imo.

I see flopping as a relative measure. An artist selling 50,000 copies with no radio play or hit singles is less of a flop than an artist who say, has several hits on an album, and said album only sells 100,000.

Not a flop, but I'm sure they were expecting more. It doesn't exactly show any fanbase growth.
Still, it will be streamed to death for the next few months so I'm guessing it still ends up around 5xPlatinum.

I'd expect it to go 5x Platinum, although that might take a year, maybe even two. Definitely not very soon.

the number is still very good. we're in streaming era. sales are dead for hiphop genre. I think we discussed it before, first week units are lower than sales era in streaming era. because people who used to buy album and contribute 1 sales in 1 week went to streaming, now contribute like 0.2 album unit to multiple wks.
there're 700k sales differences, and here is If they now move to streaming. If they listen to album(25 tracks, 90m length) 1 time per day for week, it's 122.5m streams which is 81k sea. 2 times, 162k sea. 3 times, 243k sea.

The fact that he's been streamed over 300 million times in a few days is incredible. Digital sales are in the toilet, but so are physical sales. I'd say his digital sales would have just been partially cannibalized by physical sales. He would have done a few more, but it would be a margin increase. His demographic doesn't care about physicals. They went all in on pushing this on streaming for a reason.

750k is not a flop in any sense, lol.
But he was definitely overestimated, considering early reports of record-breaking streaming.

I remember someone said that Drake would have more SPS than Adele's "25".

Should drake miss that, I would consider that a disappointment. Especially with the massive gods plan, the big nice for what, and the moderate I’m upset. As well as other successful singles down the line I’m sure. I understand sales are dead but this is still low for him and I’m hoping the physical release will be strong for him.

But nobody is spending 30+ hours of their week listening to Drake. They may eventually over the life of the era, but the most the average (non stan) consumer is going to be listening to this album after the first day or two is the handful of singles that will come off the project.

I hope Drake drops this on LP.
Take Care and Views were released to LP and NWTS and Thank Me Later were not.
