Spotify is taking this shit too far. I go straight to my playlists so I remain unbothered.

Drake would have posted big numbers on Spotify without them putting him on the Gospel playlists. There's literally no reason for Spotify to put him on EVERY curated playlist they have unless the label paid them to.

Drake would have posted big numbers on Spotify without them putting him on the Gospel playlists. There's literally no reason for Spotify to put him on EVERY curated playlist they have unless the lab el paid them to.Well he wasn't on every curated playlist. 0 Country, Classical, Rock, Jazz, etc placement. They put him on playlists in which his music had some relation. The Gospel one was funny / seemed crazy, but the description literally says it also includes R&B/Soul and the Drake songs added were R&B cuts from his album. Furthermore, just a few months ago: Spotify already got bad media generated for third-parties with popular playlists accepting money. You think they'd turn and then run schemes for paying for playlisting themselves directly after? Because that definitely wouldn't backfire and land them in bad heat.... And if Drake and his label were paying Spotify and working with them, you really think Apple Music would've still went to the press and announced the great numbers for his album? But with stans in 2018, any time you don't like/understand an artists success whether on radio, streaming, Hot 100, etc it's always payola'd. :sip2:

Why wouldn't they? I mean, I get that you dont want to admit that Drake's Spotify streams were artificially inflated by blanketing the whole platform with him, but truth hurts.

Nice that you conviently skipped the entire part on Spotify's crackdown on anything regarding paying for playlists. And I never said that promotional blitz didn't help his streams, ofcourse it got him a few more streams. I said he didn't pay for the promotional blitz nor is his streaming success for this album dependent on it. "Queen of Alternative Facts" is a fitting user title.

The problem I have with backlash on certain moves that labels/artists/platforms make in the name of promoting their stuff is that I often see hypocrisy - it seems very rooted in stan culture.
Everyone has artists they want to see succeed, break records, "own all your faves", etc... and there's always going to be reasons why it's ok if you like the artist, and not ok if you don't. It's never a level playing field, so we go back and forth about "but he/she did this, someone resorted to that" type of stuff, when, while true, that should be what's fun to analyze, compare, and discuss. Instead it's all weaponized in the never ending and always transparent stan wars.
The one exception that stands out to me is the Apple/U2 debacle that nobody seemed to think was a good idea once it started. LOL. Maybe Spotify will feel differently about doing what they did with Drake in the future. I guess we'll see.
------
Drake is at a point where backlash is inevitable. He's the latest in a long line of superstars who've reached critical mass with too much winning for some. Everything is under a microscope and people are ready to pounce. It's how our culture seems to work.

Waiting for drake to actually do this though.

Didnt he do his version of this from july 2017 - january this year? I know its only a 6 month break but thats an appropriate hiatus in this streaming era. Not everyone can be Adele
Plus do people actually want something different from him? More life gets hate for the Uk influence and Views for dancehall. So he goes back to his old sound then its "Drake makes the same music everytime"

Drake will always be hated because of how popular he is To riff off a previous post: If you're not hated, you're doing it wrong.

DRAKE'S STINGING TOTALLook for Drake to score approximately 749k total as he stomps to #1 on this week's HITS Top 50 Chart with YMCMB/Republic set Scorpion. Drizzy's big number includes some 770m total U.S. streams, shattering the previous first-week record (Post Malone's 431m for beerbongs & bentleys), not to mention first-week Spotify, first-week Apple Music and first-week yadayadayada. As we noted previously, he also nabbed the #1 spot on the U.K. chart and took the record for first-week streams in Blighty as well. Stay tuned for more numbers as we work our abacus. Now if you'll excuse us, we have to order lunch and it's National Fried Chicken Day. So we have no choice. Also, 7/14 is National Mac & Cheese Day. So we have no choice. hitsdailydouble.com/news&id=312516

So 770M streams and 749k... How many sales then? I think HDD is also doing Billboard's new weighing, so we have to wait for the album sales chart. Probably 150-160k tho, since the total SPS ended up being in line with the recent projections.

The album was just solid to me so I hated the takeover bs.
