B&B sold 153k, just saying.. so even being "a streaming artist" is not an excuse Thanks to a ticket bundle, though. So? Most artists do that now.

So confused by how the RIAA certifies these days. Though the album is still south of the 1,000,000 benchmark, it gets certified as a parent to hit singles... is that correct?

I'm shocked at how relatively good Florence's and Gorillaz's SEA is and that it exceeds Ed Sheeran's. Ofc Ed's album is old but I thought it was still streamed enough to outdo the streaming numbers of alternative acts even in their debut week.

Didn't Gorillaz do 115,000 pure and like, 140,000 SPS? Why are a lot of the acts I like taking huge drops this year?

Panic's PFTW holding better than DOAB, i smell another great seller. "High Hopes" seems like its growing on Spotify, hopefully the song can drive its units too.

But until everything is streaming, I think we'll continue to see these extremely front-loaded releases. Huge drops are all too common, especially if there isn't a big mainstream hit or a continued tour bundle to support the albums after the initial fan rush.

Yes, It got platinum because God's Plan and Nice For What combined got over 11 million units, enough for platinum. To even the playing field they should go back and retroactively re-certify every old album to include sales of that albums singles.

Pentatonix did a ticket bundle first week and still took a loss of 20,000 units. Gorillaz didn't have a mainstream hit on their last album. That album didn't even have a song break onto the charts. It's getting more difficult for acts outside pop and rap to do well on the Billboard 200. Note, by drops, I didn't mean over time. I meant first week of an act's last album to their new release.

There was a brief time not too long ago when streaming wasn't a thing yet and sales were low, so everyone was getting their highest peaking albums with incredibly low numbers. Some old school acts scored their first ever Top 10 and/or #1 albums if I remember correctly. Now that streaming took over, it's another story. Even many big pop acts struggle to stay afloat on the BB200 without big hits and/or large streaming audiences to make up for lack of actual sales. SEA is a beast!

Streaming hasn't grown enough yet to offset massive drops for album sales. Look at Drake, breaking streaming numbers with one of the most overhyped albums ever and yet he can't still beat his last studio album. And Pop and Country acts tend to do poorly on streaming in comparison to Rap acts.

I did some calculations and will predict that Scorpion might reach 620-650k on SPS if the sales are about the 150k or so mentioned above.
That's a bit better than Kendrick Lamar last year as DAMN opened with 603k.

Honestly, I wish one of my faves was creative & insane enough to do that Spotify promo thing. Iconic. Do you guys actually think he paid for this and any artist could do this instead of Spotify did this because he is the biggest artist on the platform ever and just released a new album? Taylor Swift literally did a Spotify sessions EP for Spotify and is barely getting on playlists. If Spotify huge promotion was a matter of just sending a check then half of you guys favorite artists would’ve stopped constantly bombing on Spotify long ago.

Yes, the label absolutely paid for it. There is no way Spotify is going to just screw with their algorithms by putting Drake on every goddamn playlist they have for no compensation whatsoever.

Yes, the label absolutely paid for it. There is no way Spotify is going to just screw with their algorithms by putting Drake on every goddamn playlist they have for no compensation whatsoever. No compensation? Have you been keeping up. Spotify & Apple Music are in competition and that was the entire reason for this large promotional blitz. It’s the biggest streaming release ever and probably won’t be beat for atleast a year or two so it was critical the services tried to battle out over who would have the highest numbers for it. HDD mentioned this multiple times. Spotify was posting numbers on the album literally less than 12 hours after it hit their service. Apple Music consistently posts higher numbers than Spotify now for new Hip-Hop releases which is why Spotify pushed such a huge promotional blitz. If they did nothing then Apple Music’s numbers would’ve squashed them. And guess what? Apple Music did still end up posting higher numbers despite Spotify’s huge promotion. Notice they mentioned “highest number on ANY STREAMING SERVICE”. Apple Music usually never discloses their numbers, doesn’t give any charts with numbers on their service, etc. Yet when Drake releases they publicly disclose his numbers on social media and to news/press sites. It’s all about Spotify & Apple Music competing. Especially now that Spotify is publicly owned and selling shares they need good publicity regarding record breaking numbers on their service. Who better to attempt to do that with than Drake? And the fact Drake has higher numbers on Apple Music where he did absolutely nothing really shows it’s so silly to think he needs to pay for his stream success.
