84 80 CARRIE UNDERWOOD Some Hearts 168 157 11 0.588
Weird I'm surprised it's having an increase on pop, happy but surprised.
Hopefully SWG is the next pop single.

Well there is only so much money to go around for promotion at a record label, and with “Jesus Take the Wheel” being so well received at Country, obviously that is where the investment is being made. In fact, I bet the price tag on this album was a hefty one. Mark Bright and Dann Huff certainly don’t come cheap. Their track record is phenomenal at Country and they demand top dollar for their work. Of course, promotion for the album has been amazing but at a great expense. Perhaps the label has adopted the philosophy that any airplay at pop is simply a bonus to the great support Country radio has given Carrie. “Some Hearts” is getting play on three stations in my area. (CKEY 101.1, WTSS 102.5 and CHUM 104.5 in Toronto.) I can’t complain.

I say just stop pushing her at Pop, let Country have her. I mean this in a good way, one of these days Pop is going to realize how many good artists they've missed out on over the past year. If I were an artist I'd rather be played at a format that actually appreciates my music, and I sure as heck wouldn't want to be played right after a horrible song like "Laffy Taffy," what kind of insult is that?

I think the album is basically 50/50 pop and country.
I would think that a few songs could do well on pop radio.

I agree that there's plenty of good pop on this album if the label decides to promote it as such. Maybe if she keeps selling like hotcake she'll earn $$$ to push the singles to pop. I'd actually like to see her on TRL pushing a pop video sometime since she has so many young fans with potential to gain more; or even a video for "Wasted," which has some crossover potential. The time for "Some Hearts" to be pushed is probably past, but stranger things have happened.

CHR/Pop has 'been missing out on good artists' for over a DECADE, so the fact that Ms. Underwood is struggling at the format with a pure pop song shouldn't surprise me.
Someone wrote that the last TRUE pop single to hit #1 with NO affiliation to any 'American Idol'-launched artist was by Enrique Inglesias at least FIVE years ago!!!!

Like you said the album price tag is expensive, and promotion in the country market is always priority because they invested a lot on that area. But now her position has changed a little, she’s kicking major butt in the sales department. So I hope the label will push her on mainstream just as far as they're doing for country market. Carrie deserves it. SH certified double platinum in less than 2 months. I understand that Bo needs it more, but promoting Bo has nothing to do with Carrie. But well, she needs MTV supports too, and I doubt they’ll be spending on a music video to promote her pop release. Anyway, imo they should try to release BHC & Wasted to the pop stations, because the only song I can see MTV picking up is BHC.

Someone wrote that the last TRUE pop single to hit #1 with NO affiliation to any 'American Idol'-launched artist was by Enrique Inglesias at least FIVE years ago!!!! agreed. If she's not original & bring something new on the table, she'll have a little chance on CHR/Pop radio. This is why I think instead of releasing pure pop songs to the pop radio, she rather releases strong country songs like BHC and Wasted. They will represent her better. If I'm not wrong, Faith's most successful song on CHR/Pop radio is "This Kiss"? I liked that song, but I couldn't stand the song like "Breathe". I feel she tried a little too hard. I'm trying to think why Natasha Beddingfield is doing well on CHR/Pop, but Anna Nalick isn't. I like Anna's album better, but Natasha's "Unwritten" brings such fresh unique sound. However, both Anna's Breathe & In The Rough are not anything new. Ppl would think about Natalie Imbruglia instead of Anna. Having said that I only like half of Natasha's album, but I enjoy Anna's a lot better lol.

For the most part, CHR/Pop right now is much more open to playing something that has a hint of R&B in it, like Natasha's song than they are of something that has ANY sort of rock feel such as Anna's 2 great songs.

You feel Natasha’s song has a hint of R&B? Well, she’s a little urban. My first impression of Natasha is that she’s sort of a pop version of Edie Brickell (an alternative rock singer). A couple Natasha’s songs have a quite strong rock feel too. Actually her album is very good cuz she put different & interesting stuffs on it, but I feel it’s too long and has a couple unnecessary fillers which I dislike. Well I don’t feel rock-ish in Anna songs at all. She’s soo pop to me lol. I’m not a fan of Natalie Imbruglia, but I kind of like Anna because I think she is a talented song writer. I’m hoping Katie Melau to do well in the US, but I have a feeling that Natasha will do better than her. eh Go Carrie!!!

The only other song on the album that would do great on Pop is Starts With Goodbye, the rest would probably perform as SH did because they're more suitable for AC.

I frankly think we should just give up on sending her songs to POP radio and go straight to AC.

^^ Maybe if they made Pop remixes a la Shania, Faith, etc, she'd have a better chance there... I just don't see really any of the songs in their current form doing much at CHR... Hot AC and AC, yes... and I think "Jesus, Take The Wheel" could be very big at AC if they promote it there...

^^ a little too late now for that to happen. Hey there... another CF here. :) I think she could do very well at AC... I mean Keith Urban had a 3 year old song become a hit at AC, Hot AC and CHR last year... and now they are releasing an old Keith song and LeAnn's hit from a few months ago to AC... So, it's ENTIRELY possible that they could work "Jesus, Take The Wheel" to AC sometime later this year, long after it's run at Country... AC is agonizingly slow to add songs today and the record companies know that... as I was reading somewhere, they wait for a song to prove itself at another format first before they start playing them at AC...

^^ Hello John
We shall see what happens somehow I have this feeling that if SH doesn't do well in the AC charts then Arista might just stick to Country with a few forays into AC for Carrie.

The only other song on the album that would do great on Pop is Starts With Goodbye, the rest would probably perform as SH did because they're more suitable for AC. Well, SWG is a good song, but IMO Kelly Clarkson will OWN this song. I don't see it's doing well without heavy promo cuz frankly it doesn't bring anything new on the table. It needs a good music vdo and a big push on MTV. And I doubt that. Cuz I don't see MTV is picking up TRT, but we'll see. If they aren't gonna promote it, so don't release anything at all cuz it will get on my nerve. If SH gets same promo as Invisible or even TRT, I'm pretty sure that it would do much better. I think SWG will do better on AC, but I see Lesson Learned could be a hit there cuz i feel adult listeners would embrace this song more. JMO though. I hate to say this. Due to my disappointment of DFTRM being released as the 2nd single, I have a feeling that the label would release LL to CHR/Pop not SWG. You never know crazy things can happen.

Keith Urban is being played quite often on my local Pop station. Not the one that SH is a hit there, but the one that play heavily hip hop/ R&B + Kelly Clarkson + few Madonna & Cacasda. That's why I feel BHC & Wasted should also have a chance.
