^ Chris Sligh from American Idol? Yes (see below from Chris Sligh Blog 14 Jan 2009) My name is Chris Sligh. I was on American Idol Season 6.Well, a while back, I told you guys that a successful country group had put my song "Here Comes Goodbye" on holdHowever, I received word yesterday that not only will it be on the album of said artist, it will be a single, with a good probability of being the 1st single!

From Chris Sligh's Blog: --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's official Well, I thought it would take a little longer for it to be official. But here it is... Rascal Flatts has recorded "Here Comes Goodbye", a song I wrote with my good friend Clint Lagerberg (who cowrote "Empty Me" with Tony Wood and me). We wrote the song in April last year on a Monday. The demo was recorded on Tuesday and Rascal Flatt's label heard it and put it on hold on Wednesday. Since then we've been waiting around to find out what was happening. It was the last song they decided to record and from what we've heard, the producer and label (and the band themselves) feels strongly that this song is going to be a good thing for Rascal Flatts. So good, in fact, that the song is officially the band's first single. It goes to radio outlets on Monday. The official add date is Jan 26, I believe. So, listen for my/their song on radios around the world very, very soon! This is a huge deal! I can't believe this is happening! Please buy the song when it hits iTunes and buy the record when it comes out April 7! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- another Blog Entry ... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So we found out today that one of our writers' songs is the first single on Rascal Flatts new album. "Here Comes Goodbye" will be shipped to radio Monday, and I can't wait! This song is going to be huge. Like at least "What Hurts the Most" huge, if not more. I've been listening to this song for the last 9 months, waiting for this moment, and it's so great to see everything come to fruition. Hearing RF's recording will be one of the proudest moments of my young career, and I think it will probably stay right up there on that list for a long time. -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is all of the sudden. Funny too. I was wondering when they'd release the first single from the album just last night. And my wish came true. Lol. I hope it's good. I haven't really loved any of thier singles since "My Wish." I hope I can hear it today! :)

I wonder where Country Standard Time got that news about the song being released today. Songs by big artists are almost never sent out on Friday, but if it is getting sent out today I would guess it would be at 3 PM eastern.

You can stream four very short clips from "Here Comes Goodbye" (totaling 44 seconds) here (the link is to a Clear Channel stream). The clips don't appear to be sequential, as the first, third and fourth clips sound like they are from the chorus, while the second appears to be from a verse. The chorus sounds like the typical lushly orchestrated power ballad stuff one might expect from Rascal Flatts, but the clip from the verse sounds decent.

Sounds like every other Rascal Flatts song released in the last 5 years.

I can definitely hear the Chris Sligh influence in the clip. I hope he records it too, I prefer his voice to Gary's by a mile.

If you go to the link, it now says released Tuesday and not today. :( Oh well... makes more sense that way. As rowdawg said, I've never heard of a major release being sent out on a Friday.

The verse sounds great. The chorus sounds typical Rascal Flatts, which is getting really old...

Haven't listened since I'm not a fan of LeVox's voice, but I'm definitely curious to see how the Flatts fare with the new album. They used to be big digital artists (got the first country digital platinum, I think?) who sold a lot of singles, but none of the singles they released after "Take Me There" even made the top 20 on Country iTunes even with the typical huge amount of airplay. The SFG album sales fell off at a much faster rate than their previous albums, also. Maybe their sound has just gotten too predictable.

a part of me hopes this fails miserably and Rascal Flatts fades away so Lady Antebellum can be the new big group in Country music but i do like RF so i hope this is good.

I was thinking the exact same thing. I just really hope Rascal Flatts branches out more and tries new sounds. From the clips it sounds like typical Rascal Flatts to me...

I love the Flatts-- but it would be nice if they moved over and let Emerson Drive in there too.
I think I'll like this one...but I wish they would have released "No Reins" first.
"Bob That Head" finally grew on me.

I honestly think if Lady Antebellum continues to make music like they have on their debut they will become competitive with Rascal Flatts. Much Like Sugarland (and even Montgomery Gentry lately) did with Brooks & Dunn, who were once the only massive duo.

I heard the clip and love it... ! Very cool for Chris Sligh that he is writing such great songs. Perhaps that will be his new niche.
Does anyone have a link to the full song? thanx

Some parts sound better than others. As is typically the case with RF, when the song gets loud and Gary gets bombastic, it fails. And I agree with someone else who noted that it starts to blend in with other RF songs of late.

I really love the first verse, then it just completely turns into generic Rascal Flatts.

I really love the first verse, then it just completely turns into generic Rascal Flatts. Yeah the first 1:15 is surprisingly pleasant, then it's just blah for the rest of the song.

I agree, although for me I think it's the production that drags the song down from that point on. The production gets so big that Gary's already thin voice really stands out (in a bad way). For the people that already complain about Gary being too "whiny", this will really fuel the fire.
