my favorite album was "feels like today" back in 2004....i love every song on there...but i think most of their songs since then have been too over-produced

The best songs Rascal Flatts have recorded but not released as singles are "Where You Are", "Cool Thing", and "No Reins"!!! Not releasing "No Reins" was the biggest mistake of all though! Releasing "Bob That Head" was a HUGE mistake!

^I think my parody expresses my opinions pretty well. Judging fom their singles, they seem to have given up on all semblance of artistry just because bland sells. "Bob That Head" was at least an attempt at doing something different, and it tanked, so I'm guessing that Lyric Street is especially afraid to take a chance on them now.
By the way, even though Rascal Flatts is known for their blandness, I'm surprised that even a Jeffrey Steele song can't save them, since Jeffrey is hardly a bland writer.

Releasing "Bob That Head" was a HUGE mistake! I would guess that "No Reins" not being released has something to do with the copyright infringement lawsuit filed by D.L. Byron, who wrote Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night" (you can read about it here). I remember commenting on the similarity between the two songs when I posted about Still Feels Good.

That's a shame since Shadows of the Night reaches mindblowing levels of awful. I mean jesus, how many years has recorded music been around? We're reaching a point where it's hard to make something that sounds good and 100% different. There are some similar parts to the songs, but really, they're more different than they are the same.

The lawsuit is ridiculous. Jay is a huge fan of 80's music, and that sometimes comes out in his songwriting. Just listen to "It's Not Just Me," which was inspired by the guitar-heavy ballads Chicago released in the 80's. But the 80's sound in general is the only similarity between "No Reins" and "Shadows of the Night" that I can hear.

"It's Not Just Me" is one of my favorites too and I LOVE "No Reins!" I agree-- with all the songs in the world, its hard to do anything unique anymore.

I can see this spending 3-4 weeks at #1. That's hard to do.. and that's saying something.

I'd be happy with it going #1. There's a lot of competition out there right now.

I mean jesus, how many years has recorded music been around? We're reaching a point where it's hard to make something that sounds good and 100% different. That may be true, but I think in the cases where something like a major hook is virtually identical, it's not unreasonable to ask that the originator of the hook be credited, and probably with a share of publishing. I can see this spending 3-4 weeks at #1. That's hard to do.. and that's saying something. As long as Carrie stays behind them I don't see much chance in that happening. I do see this getting 2 weeks, but I think Carrie will be too close to allow 3+ weeks. My secret decoder ring may not be too good, but I read SGG's comment as a response to ITYS having moved slightly in front of HCG on this week's Billboard/ R&R chart. I'm guessing that he was suggesting that if ITYS makes it to #1, HCG will replace it very quickly and then enjoy a long run atop the charts. At the moment, "Shutting Detroit Down" appears to be the nearest competition from behind unless both ITYS and HCG pass Tim's "Nothin' to Die For" and NtDF still stays on course to hit the top spot. And now that ring is yielding awfully murky signals but if SGG thinks HCG could enjoy a long run at the top that means he doesn't think SDD will reach #1, which potentially means that Sugarland's "It Happens" would be next in line.

Not sure how to read the above. Where are Tim and Rodney in this calculation? I would have thought RF and Carrie would go up ahead of them, but at least Rodney would have a good shot to follow them to 31. But maybe you're assuming Rodney goes up first.
I almost agree that Sugarland will be next -- but I have a feeling (and not a good feeling) that Jason Aldean will reach the top as well. Don't know how to measure the chances of John Rich's song but I doubt it will get there.
Of all these songs, the surest bet of all is Rascal Flatts'. I guess it's a case of the bland leading the bland....
