This is doing exceptionally well on iTunes which, frankly, I didn't expect at all. The previous releases from their last album did very poorly digitally.
Already #8 all-genre, and #1 on country.

Their lead single off of SFG did well on iTunes (peaked at #9 I think?), it's just that the subsequent singles flopped digitally.

#5 on iTunes.
Glad to see this doing better than "Take Me There" on iTunes. Good song.

Yeah this is doing way better than any song on "Still Feels Good" did on I-tunes and I should know since I follow Rascal Flatts closely. Really glad to see this becoming a huge hit!

so they are singing it from the girl's perspective? Actually my opinion is it's from the little boy's perspective, since he seems to be the voice of experience.

I used to respected all the posters here but lately no one has any respect and that goes especially for the veteran members of the country music forum! Some sort of I'm better than you attitude that drives new members away from the site. Feels like an old boys club were if you don't like old school country music you aren't welcome and something about making posts that aren't intellectual ones aren't allowed yet the post you just made isn't informative or useful in the least.

Your welcome. At least some people still have respect and appreciate people trying to fill a songs thread with useful and helpful information about a songs chart run and progress since this is supposed to be a message board to discuss music charts and not whatever some people think it is.

Feels like an old boys club were if you don't like old school country music you aren't welcome and something about making posts that aren't intellectual ones aren't allowed yet the post you just made isn't informative or useful in the least. Another thoughtful post! You're just a font of surprising and well-articulated thoughts. Unfortunately I can't reply to your post adequately because I cannot understand most of it. (You could, as a courtesy, try reading and correcting your own posts before hitting "post reply." Courtesy is always good.) You do write something about respect, I can understand that much. I think you won't get much respect from the senior posters by driving down the iTunes dead-end. I can live with all sorts of posters with all sorts of musical tastes, but I reserve the right to reply to any post when the spirit moves me. I certainly don't care whether or not people like old-school country, although I admit I do care whether people know old-school grammar. You, on the other hand, might have to loosen up a little and expect to deal with some criticism when you intentionally violate board policy. And I am not looking for a fight with you or anybody else. But I object to you trying to create problems by posting against board rules, and the same goes for your fan club. This is not drama society, this is an exchange of ideas about country music. If you don't like the rules, take it up with the moderator via PM, or email the Supreme Court if that would work better, and leave the rest of us out of it.

this is what i took from the video.... the woman's father is passed away, she gets the strength to go "home" aka her parents house, and then to his grave, and the little boy shown with her father is her deceased child, who is helping his grandpa see the light so he can take him to heaven with him.

It doesn't. It's just a contrived heartstring tugger, bringing in more death and crying in a ham handed attempt to make the song seem more relevant than the shallow lyrics would have you believe.

Rascal Flatts must give some other explanation...haha...you're probably right though.

not all videos have to directly relate to the words of every song. It's a song about goodbye, so what more did you want to see.. the girl is saying goodbye, and dealing with deaths...

It doesn't fit at all in my opinion. The lyrics are clearly about a breakup, without any implication of death. If the lyrics dealt more with the general issue of saying goodbye, instead of adding the details like violins playing "Here Comes the Bride", then maybe.

^ I agree...and i've always been a huge Rascal Flatts fan, so please don't get me wrong. I just don't see why you would make a video that doesn't relate to the song.

yeh, meh whatever though, it's just a video, videos always make me like a song less than before, and this song didnt have much chance with me to begin with anyway lol.

The video is very well produced...it seems like a scene from a movie or something.

I am purposely not downloading any of the new music they've released to iTunes. Aside from this song, I want to be completely surprised when I listen to the album the first time. :)

The video is very well produced...it seems like a scene from a movie or something. I agree. "What Hurts the Most" had a very well executed video, even if (like this one) it clashed with the meaning of the song. That seems to be the Rascal Flatts forumla of late — soaring, whiny power ballad with weightless lyrics, sung as if they mean the whole world to the singer.... coupled with a heartstring-tugging video that, emotional as it is, makes no sense within the context of the song. The password is "manipulative".

Hasn't anyone thought that perhaps the lyrics WERE about the loss of a loved one without it being 'obviously' about a break-up? It's conceivable that the song can be interpreted to be about a myriad of things for people's own lives, which is why the song probably was presented this way in the video.
As for the sales #s of this single on iTunes, Until this pre-release of the hits off of the album, Lyric Street had NEVER released singles until now. Miley's song was released by Disney Records, not the Nashville branch.

Hasn't anyone thought that perhaps the lyrics WERE about the loss of a loved one without it being 'obviously' about a break-up? I tried precisely that. The lyrics simply don't support the interpretation that the lyrics are about the loss of a loved one. Even if one interprets the first verse scene being about a ghost, that scenario doesn't square with the sentiment of "here comes goodbye" because the narrator would clearly already know that the scene he is envisioning is that of a ghost (which means he knows that the girl has passed away). The chorus clearly presents the narrator's emotions as dreading what's to come ("the start of every sleepless night, the first of every tear I'm gonna cry") but hasn't happened yet. I even tried to see if one could make an argument that this could be about the first emotional realization of the loss. But that still doesn't jive with the moment in the first verse when the narrator realizes goodbye is coming ("She usually comes right in, now I can tell...here comes goodbye..."). If anything, the "here comes the last time" part heavily implies that this is the last time the narrator will have the chance to interact face-to-face with the person who is going/gone, and it's an untenable stretch to make that about a wake or some ghostly scene. Gary LeVox he has been quoted by CMT as saying that while he loves the video treatment, the band recorded HCG as a break-up song:

I agree with Dudleyvillas here. As vague as most RF songs are, this one is definitely about a breakup.
By the way, who is it that "writes" music videos, generally? In other words, whose job is it to choose what the music video comprises visually? Is that usually the director's job?

Ideally, there's a "treatment" war. Potential directors each make a treatment for the video (how they see it being presented basically) and the artist/team chooses the one they like best.
What I see actually happening though is that an artist has a preferred director and goes with him more often than not. Thus, the small group of directors the big stars seem to gravitate to -- Shaun Silva for Kenny, RF, Sugarland; Roman White for ALL of Carrie videos, etc.
