Mariah sales are impressive this early before holidays. Next week expect her to drop . It's gonna be a rollercoaster sales ride.

I wasn't sure how Jason Aldean's album would open- that's pretty decent for him.
Mimi's first holiday album opened with around 45K, I think. I don't think you can make much of this album opening more than the first Merry Christmas- obviously, there's no way this new album will sell like Merry Christmas. Plus, her opening numbers don't always forecast things as you may think, though- after all, E=MC2 had her biggest debut in the SoundScan era.
I'd think the album will ship at least 500K. As with most holiday albums, it should reach its peak a couple of weeks before Christmas. Not expecting "Oh Santa" to detract much from "All I Want For Christmas is You's" usual strong performance.

Taylor Swift retains the top spot on next week's chart as Speak Now will become the fifth best-selling album of the year in only two weeks. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend:
Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 340-360k *Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 190-205k Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 60-65k *Mariah Carey (Island/IDJ) 50-55k Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Motown) 35-40k Kings of Leon (RCA/RMG) 35-40k Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 35-40k *Neil Diamond (Columbia) 30-35k Elton John & Leon Russell (Decca) 27-30k *Brad Paisley (Arista Nashville) 21-24k *Matt & Kim (Fader) 21-24k Lady Antebellum Merry Little Christmas (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 21-24k Darius Rucker (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 21-24k Rod Stewart (J/RMG) 21-24k Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 21-24k Trey Songz (Atlantic) 21-24k *Debuts (11/4p)

Aldena's numbers upgraded. Two titles with 200K+ would be nice.

So a ~65% drop for Taylor. Pretty good drop. Yep. Fearless dropped around 65% in its second week as well! Jason's numbers are looking really good. 50-55k is also quite good for Mariah!

Is there any reason other than Christmas approaching that Lady Antebellum's Christmas album is going to see such a big increase this week? It only sold 9k last week and HDD are predicting 21-24k this week.
Nice to see Katy and Trey stay consistent, and of course I'm pleased about Mariah's opening numbers! Just hope she can stay consistent and hopefully pull in some good numbers in December.

Lady A's holiday EP also is a Target exclusive, isn't it? Maybe Target is advertising it and has it sale-priced- or, maybe Mimi's album raised awareness of other holiday titles. :)
Next week, though, that wig-snatcher SuBo arrives. Unlike her last album (in which she really didn't need promo), she'll be making some U.S. appearances this time around, I hear.

Not a bad drop at all for Speak Now. I'm pleasantly surprised.

200k for Jason is terrific! His last album debuted with just over 100k, and its lead single was a bigger hit than 'My Kinda Party'.

I expected it to sell around that much :). It looks like Em will only be 1.6 million albums ahead of her now. If she keeps selling consistently and with a Black Friday boost I expect her to hit 2 million by early December and possibly 3.5 million by year's end :).

It's on sale for $7.99, I think.

Norah Jones dropped 64% in 2004. Taylor will have a similar drop. Impressive.

Around 1.4 million in two weeks is pretty damn impressive. Just think of how many albums fail to ever hit that total and we still have holiday rush weeks ahead of us.

I'm a little surprised with her predictions. I was expecting 450-500k 60-65% decrease the second week is usual. She's on the higher end of that because a lot of the hype created last week has faded this week. Not as much media attention, there is no longer the "million in first week" possibility - because it happened, and "Mine" is plummeting on radio.

Has an album that went over a million sold ever had a 50% or less drop in the second week before (which would have been her drop if she sold 500K this week)? I am honestly curious. I only know the drops after major recent releases (Nsync, Bsb).

A bigger percentage drop should've been expected for Taylor. Her first week sales were 6 days worth (instead of the usual 5), so her first week sales were larger than it would've been with 5 days. Yet her second week is the same as a typical release, so a bigger percentage drop should've been expected.
But that is still an awesome second week number. I'm not even a Taylor fan, but I'm glad she's selling well.

^You mean, her first week's worth were 7 days, rather than the usual 6, as the sales tracking period is Monday-Sunday. :)
Swift's projected second-week drop is expected.

Excellent. Less than i expected. So im still confident in my Recovery is a lock for the top selling album of the year.
Eminem (Shady/Aftermath/Interscope) 35-40k

Recovery will hit 3 million in the next 3 weeks. And Xmas is gonna boost it up, so it may end up selling 3.1/3.2 million by year's end! Taylor is gonna be so close.
