Bye bye, BEP. PEAS, GLEE HAVE "THE TIME” FOR TOP DEBUT Two New Releases Are Only Six-Figure Bows December 1, 2010 It’ll be a week to mind your Peas and Glees. Although it’s beginning to feel a lot like a Black Friday hangover. The Black Eyed Peas’ Interscope album, The Beginning and Columbia’s Glee Cast Vol. 4 appear to be the top debuts on next week’s chart, based on one-day sales figures from those retailers who haven’t sold out their supply of $198 42” LG flat-screen TVs. Both appear set to bow in the 110-125k range, which won’t be enough to unseat whoever sits at #1 next week. That could be Miss Kris Kringle herself, Susan Boyle, if her Gift keeps on giving in the 225k-250k range, which should be enough to beat the likes of Kanye West and Nicki Minaj in their second week. Other Top 50 debuts should be registered by J/RMG’s Jazmine Sullivan (55-60k), Def Jam/IDJ’s Christette Michele (40-45k) and Reprise’s AC stalwart Eric Benet (30-35k). Curb Country veteran Tim McGraw’s Number One Hits, Geffen’s El DeBarge comeback and Def Jam’s Ron Isley are all expected to sell in the 18-22k area. The market was up 26% vs. last week, down 5% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date. You may now return to getting full-body scanned by the TSA.

It is strange to me that BEP is only opening with a little over 100K after following such a massive album. I suppose the song being one of their worst ever doesn't help.

^I agree. Plus, their lucky they're an established act because if they weren't, they would struggle to sell 80k.

I think that Subo will be on the higher end of the projection. I think the 4th Volume of Glee Cast will be #2.

Well deserved numbers for the Peas. The album itself has grown on me; however, I still find it to be their worst album by far! Hopefully this sends them and their label a message that quality needs to be their #1 priority :kii:.

Wan't HDD's original prediction for The END something like that? And it ended up selling substantially more? Not saying it's going to happen again, especially since this album is awful. But you never know.

What did it end up selling for that week? It is true that the Peas could hit closer to 200K which would be a bit more respectable.

I believe it ended up at 304K. I think the BB200 thread has been either deleted or bumped at some point. I see the HITS thread on page 17 of general music news stating 308K, but I have a good memory and am pretty confident that it sold 304K.

Sales are really bad for this time of year.
So HSN did not report Mariah's sales, right?

Is anyone really surprised here?
BEP have never opened up with jumbo numbers. An unlike with Monkey Business and The END, this album came out a month after the single (By comparison, there was a gap of 10 weeks between BBP being available on iTunes and The END coming out). This'll probably fall hard next week, rise back up after the Holidays and stabilize.

I'm glad people are realizing how terrible The Black Eyed Peas' 'music' has become.

^ a little over 300k
not the best numbers for the peas, they are around the same numbers as xtina and miley. hopefully the peas have better longitvity than them. i still think they shouldve taken a break and had fergies 2nd album, and have will.i.am. working on getting cheryl to break through here. missing you shouldve been the closing single.
Good numbers for Susan and Glee.

did anyone really expect much from BEP? this album is awful, the single is too, and it's not doing well at radio.

They have never had jumbo openings, but 100K seems lower than their star power especially with how much they dominated last era. I wonder if people just aren't ready for more BEP or if the horrid first single really did kill that much momentum for them.

I'd have expected high debut ONLY because of their massive success in the previous era, the first week was supposed to be riding on the back of previous success instead of being affected by a flopping new single.

That doesn't always work, especially when promo is minimal. Since when is their single flopping? It has the highest bullet on pop and is rising digitally.

OMG hits didnt mention Flo rida...less than 10k first week? new shontelle.
Next week's Billboard 200 competes with the same week in 2009 when: Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" kept on dreaming at No. 1 for a second week, selling 527,000 (down 25%) while Andrea Bocelli's "My Christmas" held firm at No. 2 with 428,000 (up 97%). The highest new entry was R. Kelly's "Untitled" at No. 4 with 114,000.
expect a big decrease next week

BEP is doing terrible everywhere except digital single sales.
Their airplay is definitely far below what most big artists have with lead singles at this point. It's not even at 30m impressions yet.
They are so inconsistent, it's bizarre... and I can't tell any rhyme or reason to why The END was so big for them singles-wise compared to their previous 2 albums.

My moderate predictions for this week:Susan Boyle 225k Kanye West 150k Taylor Swift 125k The Black Eyed Peas 110k Glee Vol. 4 110k Nicki Minaj 110k Jackie Evancho 100k Rihanna 90k Glee X-Mas 65k Jazmine Sullivan 55k This week last year:Susan Boyle 527k Andrea Bocelli 428k Taylor Swift 127k R.Kelly 114k Lady GaGa 84k Carrie Underwood 81k Norah Jones 80k Michael Jackson 75k New Moon OST 72k Michael Buble 72k

BEP didn't take a break. They didn't allow fans the chance to miss them and want more music. Also, I don't think casual fans realize that there is a new BEP album out since they didn't take a long break between albums. This is it. They need a break. Four hits in a row that got massive airplay and recurrent airplay on three different formats, not to mention non-stop appearances and touring. People are tired of them and they didn't take a break. Poor material is obviously not helping as well. Stupid decision.

BEP doesn't need a break, it was just a really dumb move to release the album before their single even became a solid hit...not to mention "The Time" wasn't exactly that well-received by a lot of people to begin with.

Home Shopping Network- just as QVC and other non-traditional outlets- indeed reports sales of music product to SoundScan. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise.
Would be nice to see Miss Kriss Kringle return to the top spot- she got some extra publicity for the frog in her throat. haha Good that she redid the song on The View. She's also been performing a different track at each appearance- "Perfect Day" and "Do You Hear What I Hear" on Today, "Away in a Manger" at Rockefeller Center, "O Holy Night" on The View. I think she's supposed to be on Ellen, but haven't seen a date yet.
BEP could go higher (as we saw with the last album), but "The Tiime" isn't performing as well as "Boom Boom Pow" did.
