Any disc that you buy with a barcode on it gets reported to Soundscan

Well, if a "mom-and-pop" CD shop doesn't report to SoundScan, SoundScan does estimate the sales (the company tracks 95% of all sales and estimates the remaining 5%).

But honestly, how many mom and pop CD shops could possibly be left?

^Truth. And, regardless, we're talking about small amounts of sales anyhow. As SoundScan's percentage of market coverage has increased through the years, sales have become more precise.

Almost everything gets reported.
What doesn't:
2nd hand stores (the mom and pop shops mentioned above) CD prmotions at Rite Aid or clothing stores (actually this is optional for the outlet that accepts the CDs, some do, some don't)

Ouch at BEP. Didn't expected so low numbers since The Time have been around top 5 on Itunes for quite a while.

I hope this flop will make them learn not to create trashes anymore. I miss Elephunk & Monkey Business sounds. Or maybe it's time for Fergie to go solo again.

I am a BEP fan and I think this album was rushed and not promoted well. I miss the era of Monkey Business and Elephunk. The END grew on me, but I was disappointed in The Time, and I think it hurt album sales. They took a beloved song, and Will turned it into kind of a mess. I really do think Fergie should have come out with another solo CD, or they could have released Missing You. There was no reason to rush another CD right now, it's been a little over a year.
I think that Will's ego took a beating when Fergie's CD was huge and his flopped, and they have wasted her on the last two albums. When she won the AMA female artist award, he didn't even sit with her at the awards or say a word even though he performed with her. He just seemed to want to make the world forget Fergie as a solo artist, and these last two albums have a lot of of Will doing solo stuff,, and IMO it's not as good as their old stuff and it's a bad move.
I think they will do more than the predicted sales, but it's still a stupid move when they were doing so well before.

The Time is literally one of the worst, laziest songs I've heard all year. I think they expected to ride on the success of their last album.

It may have been too soon for BEP, but I think the real issue is "The Time." Their singles from The END were really exciting and progressive in a lot of ways, but their new single is just absolute garbage and I know tons of Peas fans and casual fans feel the same. If they had come out with at least a half-decent single they'd probably be doing double what they are this week. I consider myself to be a really big Peas fan - I have Elephunk, Monkey Business, and The END (as well as Fergie's solo CD), and I love jamming out to those albums, just pure fun, funk, and dance action. But after hearing "The Time" and clips from the new album, I'm not at all excited about where the BEP are going and I just pray they get back to fun and funky hip hop as soon as possible.

Billboard Susan Boyle Likely To Return To Billboard 200 Summit By Keith Caulfield A year ago next week, Susan Boyle was tops on the Billboard 200 chart with her debut album "I Dreamed a Dream." And next week her second album "The Gift" (Syco/Sony Music) looks like it will make a return engagement to the top of the list. Industry sources suggest that neither of the two biggest new releases this week -- the "Glee" cast's "Music, Volume 4" and the Black Eyed Peas' "The Beginning" -- is posing a threat to Boyle's return to No. 1. Her "Gift" bowed at No. 1 two weeks ago with 318,000 and spent a second week atop the list with 335,000 before slipping to No. 3 this week (263,000). Prognosticators are projecting that "Glee" and BEP are both aiming to start with around 100,000 to 125,000 sold by week's end on Sunday, Dec. 5. For the Peas, that's off quite a bit from the arrival of their last album, "The E.N.D.," which gave the quartet its first No. 1 last year with a 304,000 unit start according to Nielsen SoundScan. This past week's No. 1, Kanye West's "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy" will likely drop from the top slot to perhaps somewhere around Nos. 4-6 region on the tally.[/b] www.billboard.biz/bbbiz/content_display/industry/e3ia3ef1228571e025f2fb6faf635e6b068

That's the harsh consequence of releasing an album during Thanksgiving week- the inevitable second-week plunge is larger than normal, I'd think.

Taylor will definitely be above 110k. She won't drop 60% this week.

Most albums do see a decent drop in the post-Thanksgiving week. Of course, SuBo (and holiday albums) being an exception.

I thought BEP were a shoo-in for at least 200k, The Time isn't flopping as bad as everyone thought so I don't think the lead single has much to do wth it. It was just way too soon to release another album especially when the fans are used to breaks from BEP. Plus I think as someone mentioned people are tired of will.I.am, if the other group members were allowed to shine a little more (especially Fergie, people may not like her but she sells albums) it would generate more interest in the group. I'm interested to see how the album performs internationally since BEP is bigger outside the states.

Susan Boyle's The Gift returns to the top spot next week as Steve Barnett's Team Columbia is poised for a possible three titles in the Top 5, and four in the Top 10. Here's how it looks headed into the weekend: Susan Boyle (Columbia) 275-300k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 140-160k Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/IDJ) 130-140k Glee Cast Christmas (Columbia) 125-135k *Glee Cast Vol. 4 (Columbia) 115-125k Jackie Evancho (Columbia) 115-125k Nicki Minaj (YM/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 110-120k *Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 105-115k Josh Groban (Reprise) 75-85k Justin Bieber My Worlds Acoustic (Island/IDJ) 65-75k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 65-75k Keith Urban (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 60-70k Mariah Carey (Island/IDJ) 55-60k *Jazmine Sullivan (J/RMG) 55-60k Burlesque soundtrack (RCA/RMG) 45-50k Kid Rock (Atlantic) 45-50k Sugarland (Mercury Nashville) 45-50k Now 36 (Capitol/EMI) 45-50k *Debuts (12/2p) www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/rumormill.cgiThe fact that BEP may actually sell less than "Bionic" amuses me very much.

^^ Wow at four things:
1. Peas extremely low debut for any sales quarter, let alone Q4 2. Kayne's potential 70+% drop from debut week (of course during Black Friday) to this week 3. Taylor's extremely impressive sales without a strong single in high rotation 4. The potentially consistent sales of 'Burlesque'

Go Burlesque go! Looks like there may be a chance the OST to reach new peak this week. BEP may not even debut in the top 5.

Home Shopping Network- just as QVC and other non-traditional outlets- indeed reports sales of music product to SoundScan. I don't know why anyone would think otherwise. People are expecting inflated numbers because she sold her album on HSN. But when you think about it, odds are people that bought the album on HSN would've probably bought it otherwise in another outlet. I'm not saying that's the case for everyone, but probably for most buyers. So, in the end, the numbers turn out to be a wash.
