^Exactly. I haven't rushed to get either of SuBo's albums, but I have no problem with her albums selling as they are. Perhaps some are just perturbed because she's keeping some of their favorites in the sales dust. The This is It album opened pretty well (300K+). Even if this new album doesn't open as big, I can still see it doing 200K+. Like I said, I think it could be a different story for the album, compared to the single. Not that it has anything to do with commercial success, but "Hold My Hand" is very underwhelming as a track.

Considering TI's circumstances (not hits, incarceration/no promotion), it's still decent enough sales. I didn't even know it was coming out this week.

I agree with those in favor of SuBo topping the charts. I'm not crazy about her songs, but better her than the Kesha and Rihanna's of the world.

You have not heard me say one thing about subo topping the charts. I couldnt care less. But too say better her than Ke$ha or Rihanna? Come on. I like songs by both Ke$ha and Rihanna but neither are up there with my favorite artists. I really dislike Boyle. But seriously to think one debuting #1 instead of the other is better? idk about that.
I really only care if Eminem or Tool or A Perfect Circle or D12 are #1.

Considering the industry was constantly mentioning T.I. next to Kanye and Susan Boyle as one of the major releases of 2010 that were supposed to raise the sales, it is very bad for him. There are so few legitimate hit albums this year, it's not even funny. No mention of Duffy is obvious after she kind of flopped in the UK, debuted at #9 and might drop out of the top 20 there in the second week, even though in the UK her debut sold like 2 million copies!

Sophomore jinx, baby. Duffy better be glad she was able to win a Grammy last time b/c she may never get another one at this rate.

I am happily suprised that Subo is ruling the charts again. It just goes to show that America isn't as superficial as I thought it was. Don't agree. The whole "Oh wow that ugly old looking cat lady can sing" buzz is the proof of how superficial we are. Had she been good or average looking, nobody would have cared for her, because even though she clearly can sing, she's no Céline Dion. In a non-superficial world, nobody would have been shocked that an unfortunately looking granny could carry a tune and Susan Boyle would not be there selling millions of albums, simply because she is not that talented.

That, and the fact that the people who are buying her album are the best examples of "buying everything that's released under her name because she's popular now" since she doesn't have a hit single or anything.

Guinness World Records confirms Michael Jackson’s ‘Michael’ album artwork as the world’s largest poster www.youtube.com/watch?v=r3GIDjxoVBU&feature=player_embedded The 29,070 ft² poster smashes the previous record by more than 110 ft² London, UK (9 December 2010) – Guinness World Records, the global authority on record breaking, today confirms that a poster erected to mark the release of Michael Jackson’s ‘Michael’ album (released 13th December) has set a new record as the world’s largest poster. Guinness World Records confirmed that the poster of Michael Jackson’s ‘Michael’ measures 171ft by 170ft with a total surface area of 29,070 ft², smashing the previous record - held by the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver - by more than 110 ft². To put it into perspective, the ‘Michael’ poster would take over three quarters of the pitch at Wembley stadium, is longer than the equivalent of six Routemaster buses end-to-end and if upright would be higher than Nelson’s column. The poster, made of PVC and weighing one ton, took engineers three hours to install - and is less than 3,000 meters from one of Heathrow’s main runways, literally viewable by all planes arriving/ departing. Guinness World Records requires the world's largest poster to be publically displayed and formed of one single piece of material; it must also advertise a commercially available product. Guinness World Records sent an official adjudicator to the site situated at Rectory Farm in Middlesex to officially verify and measure the ‘Michael’ poster. Tarika Vara, Guinness World Records adjudicator, said: “This is a massive achievement and it brings me great pleasure to confirm that with this new world record, Michael Jackson's 'Michael' has earned its place in history. This poster has not only achieved incredible scale but it has combined this with intricate detail and having seen it up close I can confirm that the quality of the image is fantastic. Michael Jackson already holds a number of Guinness World Records and we are thrilled to award another title to the King Of Pop.” The image of the album cover of ‘Michael’ was created by painter Kadir Nelson in 2009. In the original oil painting, Kadir – who is known for story telling through his art – takes us on a journey through some key moments and important people in Michael Jackson’s life. ‘Michael’ is the much-anticipated album of newly completed recordings by the King Of Pop. The poster will stay at what will be known as ‘Michael’s Field’ until 23rd December, after which, the poster will travel via sea container into continental Europe where it will be toured and displayed. Michael Jackson’s Guinness World Records include: ? World’s best-selling album for ‘Thriller’ ? Highest annual earnings for a pop star from 1989 and this record remains unbroken 21 years later ? Most hit singles on UK singles chart in one year in 2006 when Michael had 19 singles in the UK Top 40 About Guinness World Records: Guinness World Records is the universally recognized authority on record-breaking achievement. First published in 1955, the annual Guinness World Records book is published in more than 100 countries and 25 languages and is one of the highest-selling books under copyright of all time with more than 3 million copies sold annually across the globe. Guinness World Records celebrated its 50th anniversary edition in 2004, a year after the sale of its 100 millionth copy. Guinness World Records also annually publishes the Gamer’s Edition; a records book devoted solely to the world of computer gaming and high score record achievements.

Well, some are not that fond of the overblown type of singing that other "divas" have demonstrated, so why compare SuBo to anyone else.
Susan Boyle has a very nice, soothing, listenable voice- the same audience that enjoys Josh Groban and Andrea Bocelli probably enjoys her. let them continue to enjoy her and let's try to get over the fact that she's found an audience and isn't going to just disappear anytime soon.

SuBo has only sold because of the circus that was built around her. Had she come out as a regular artist, and not as the "oh, poor ma'am" winner of a reality show, the story would be abysmally different.

^Well, that's obvious. But, we're now seeing a second album do pretty impressively, sans the "circus" of the first release. The Gift's sales do not have to replicate the one-of-its-kind performance of the first release- though the label must feel that the album will sell well enough over the next month to justify its 3 million shipment certification.

I agree with this. It's pretty clear this is the same audience she is drawing from. She'll be around for awhile. It seems some are just getting upset because she is ruling the charts while some people's favorites are failing to make decent sales despite their commercial appeal.

i wonder if susan will release next year. hopefully she can have an album of 80% or more original songs. i also wonder if she ll ever chart on the hot 100 again. maybe if she promoted on a show with a big enough audience like idol or maybe the grammys.

As a 48-year-old with little airplay (the litte bit which comes from AC radio at holidays time), I wouldn't be surprised if SuBo never charts on the Hot 100 again.

Your Sarah Palin Moose-Mauling Weakend Chart Preview Grand Hustle/Atlantic Records hip-hop star T.I.’s new album, No Mercy, is the week’s top debut, cracking the Top 5, with Columbia’s Susan Boyle still holding forth at the top of the chart. Walt Disney's Daft Punk Tron: Legacy soundtrack is also showing some surprising strength, with a projected total of 60-65k. The rest of the chart shapes up as follows:
Susan Boyle (Columbia) 250-270k Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 190-210k Glee Cast Christmas (Columbia) 160-170k Jackie Evancho (Columbia) 160-170k * T.I. (Grand Hustle/Atlantic) 135-145k Josh Groban Illuminations (Reprise) 80-85k Nicki Minaj (YM/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 75-80k Andrea Bocelli My Christmas (Decca) 75-80k Mariah Carey (Island/IDJ) 70-75k Glee Cast Vol. 4 (Columbia) 65-70k Rihanna (Def Jam/IDJ) 65-70k Justin Bieber My Worlds Acoustic (Island/IDJ) 60-65k *Daft Punk Tron: Legacy soundtrack (Walt Disney) 60-65k Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/IDJ) 60-65k John Groban Noel (Reprise) 55-60k Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 55-60k Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 55-60k *Charlie Wilson (Jive/JLG) 50-55k Keith Urban (Capitol Nashville/EMI) 50-55k *Debuts (12/9p)

Taylor Swift (Big Machine) 190-210k Sales monster! Nothing can stop Taylor.
Nicki Minaj (YM/Cash Money/Universal Motown) 75-80k Interesting that this is proected to sell about 15k more than Kanye's album next week.
Mariah Carey (Island/IDJ) 70-75k YES! Back into the top 10 and will be at about 300k even before her big promo week comes up!
Black Eyed Peas (Interscope) 55-60k They're gonna need to release a better song or its flopsville for BEP.
Katy Perry (Capitol/EMI) 55-60k Will easily go platinum and beyond. Goes to show that first week sales aren't everything.

Swift may return to the top sooner than expected if SuBo's album sales drop. Boyle's album is not seeing as high weekly sales totals as Andrea Bocelli saw around the same time last year.

What a sales machine. :'( Back in the top 10! Go Katy go! Total sales will be around 780k this week and well past 900k by the year-end. It'll pass 1 million when she wins AOTY at the 2011 Grammys.

I'm really disappointed at Kanye's sales right now. Granted, he has no big single right now (which is his label's fault), but he's under-performing a bit.

It still cracks me up that people are saying Susan only sells because of the "circus" or that she is "trendy/popular"-that certainly had AN influence, but there is also a huge audience for someone like her. Do you see how people like Josh Groban, Andrea Bocelli, and even Jackie Evancho sell solid/good numbers even without pop hits? Are they all just selling because "they are trendy and a circus surrounds them?" No. They sell because the pseudo-classical AC type voice with soothing music sound has a HUGE audience that can sell platinum plus albums even without massive hits and promo. There are other markets out there other than the ones obsessed over pop girls singing dance songs. It just amuses me that everyone in here is fist pumping and screaming over Katy or Rihanna or Kesha or anyone else reaching platinum, yet Susan or any of these other people reaching platinum or beyond is "just a trend" or "OMG SO SICK OF THEM THEY NEED TO GO AWAY!!!!!" The world holds all different types and to a certain extent the ones who like the Josh Grobans an Susan Boyles of the world buy more cds, circus and promotion or not.

It's annoying when I see people bitch and complain about Subu's sale. ??? Not only is she blocking their favs but she's going platinum when other commercial artists have 120M audience impressions that can barely cross gold. I haven't purchased her Xmas album (I think $11.99 is too high for a MP3 album download) however I will buy it as it gets closer to Xmas.

I think the comment about her "only selling because of the circus around her" is ridiculous too. Isn't that the case with ANY act that sells that well? Pop stars only sell well because of the "circus" around them.
Kelly Clarkson would've never been as big as she is now with Idol. Does that discredit her? No. Same with Carrie Underwood. They both sell well and are well liked, but would've never been big without Idol.

Just as I said a couple of weeks ago, when I was chastised for saying I didn't like the look of her Thanksgiving week drop. ;) After her second week, I fully expected her to hit the 400k mark sometime before mid-December. Oh well. Still an excellent showing.

I think their albums and strong singles has a bigger part in why they succeeded so much (Breakaway, Some Hearts), because as Taylor Hicks demonstrated it isn't enough to only win AI.

Although to be frank, a good portion of the nation vaguely remembers that show.
