www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08330m01T.I. TOPS THE NEWCOMERS, SUBO STILL RULES Michael Jackson Looms As Year’s Final Big Release December 8, 2010 T.I.’s new album, No Mercy, finds the imprisoned rapper scoring the top debut this week, with the Grand Hustle/Atlantic title looking at first-week sales in the 135-145k range. Those results are based on reports from those music retailers now busy carving up deer carcasses with Sarah Palin. That won’t be enough to topple Columbia’s Susan Boyle from the charts, with the only contender to do so between now and the end of the year, the posthumous Michael Jackson album on Epic, which streets Dec. 14. Daft Punk’s Tron: Legacy soundtrack for Walt Disney could do a surprisingly robust total of 55-60k, while Gap Band member Charlie’s Wilson’s Jive/JLG effort, Just Charlie, looks like it’s headed for a total of 50-55k. Red-hot DJ Deadmau5’s new EMI-distributed Ultra album, 4X4=12, could do around 25-30k, the same total as Universal Republic Okie rockers Hinder’s All American Nightmare. The market was down 10% vs. last week, down 9% vs. same week last year and still down 13% year to date. You may now return to taking a Wikileak.

Note that next week should be the last week of the year that HITS publishes its chart. I don't recall- did HITS post One-Day sales and Weakend Updates during the week of Christmas and New Year's?

That's about right
Susan Boyle and/or Michael Jackson should be #1 for the next month

Did Andrea Bocelli's album go up or down compared to the same week in 2009?

Not bad for T.I :) The guy is in jail, so i didn't think he could push more than 200k. Maybe he'd see a boost when he's released! P.S his collabo with Eminem is doing great on iTunes.

malwa, as Bocelli's album was a brand-new release last year, and saw its peak sales topping 400K in a week, down. :)

Ahhh, lol. I thought that I could use Bocell's trend to gauge Boyle's numbers. I guess not.

wow. that's awful for TI. He should have been able to do at least 300k. 400k tops. This has been an extremely disappointing 4th quarter.

malwa, I had posted Bocelli's sales from last year, but will do so again. :)
Subo's album got off to a faster start than Andrea Bocelli's did last year (though his was released one week earlier in the comparable period). Here is how Bocelli's album fared last year:
11/21/09 chart (week ending 11/8): 148,527 11/28/09 chart (week ending 11/15): 136,125 12/5/09 chart (week ending 11/22): 184,791 12/12/09 chart (week ending 11/29): 217,569 (Thanksgiving week) 12/19/09 chart (week ending 12/6): 428,351 12/26/09 chart (week ending 12/13): 400,433 1/2/10 chart (week ending 12/20): 389,899 1/9/10 chart (week ending 12/27): 284,000 1/16/10 chart (week ending 1/3/10): 17,768 (2.207 million up to that point)
With five weeks of sales into the week after Thanksgiving, Bocelli's total stood at 1.115 million (compared to SuBo's 1.187 million for four weeks through the comparable period).
As you can see, Bocelli reaches his sales peak for the 12/19 chart- if we go by history, that would indicate that perhaps SuBo has seen her sales peak, as well (in week two of her album's release). But we should know, after the performance of I Dreamed a Dream, that SuBo's performance may not necessarily follow past trends.

Coming off Paper Trail, I would've expected at least 200k even with the lack of hits.

She is doing fairly well especially with the amount of people shrieking that her 15 minutes are/were over.

Thanks, areyouready. Most years, HITS has taken two weeks off from compiling a chart (one year it was even 3!) From the looks of it, last year was the first time with just one non-chart week.
And, yes, Susan BoyLEGEND's album is doing pretty well.

She is doing fairly well especially with the amount of people shrieking that her 15 minutes are/were over. That's the best part Loving her success. Saying she is doing fairly well is a big understatement. She is smashing.

T.I. is flopping. I expected 200k. I really don't see what America sees in SuBo.
Pretty bad sales for this part of the year.

I had no idea T.I. had a new album. Considering he was everywhere when his last album came out I'm not surprised that he's doing lower numbers now.
I seriously doubt Michael Jackson is going to do amazing numbers. People love his music mostly from the 80s. When he passed away it wasn't "You Rock My World" and "You're Not Alone" that sold huge. New music isn't really going to be a huge draw.
So tired of Susan Boyle. But most of my favorite music doesn't even make the top 40 of anything anyway.

Ciara and Crystal won't be able to do much to lift album sales up to where people here will be happy

br- the MJ album likely will see decent numbers, at least for its first few weeks. "Hold My Hand" may not be a smash, and is evidence that the public won't rush to buy a MJ song just because it's MJ- but, the album as a whole may be a different story.

I feel like this is the same scenario as the This Is It movie. Everyone thought the movie would be pulling in $100m+ and the single would rocket to #1. Way too high expectations.
I wouldn't be surprised with MJ debuting with 100-150k but not much higher than that.

'This is It' was still huge for a concert movie.
The single may have charted high had it been released

This is good, since he hasn't had a big hit since 'Dead and Gone', which happened in '08.

SuBo is annoying me right now.. I'm sick of her at this point. It's not even fun to use it as a mockery anymore.

I wish she would just expose a titty at the next SuperBowl so we can finally see an end to the madness.

I am happily suprised that Subo is ruling the charts again. It just goes to show that America isn't as superficial as I thought it was. I wonder how long she can keep this Christmas gig going? Her past two albums haven't been anything special...

Good for Subo, a real singer can actually sell! Granted it's very blah but still.
