It's SuBo/Taylor 1-2 again! Some of these other numbers are kinda disappointing though.

I think the comment about her "only selling because of the circus around her" is ridiculous too. Isn't that the case with ANY act that sells that well? Pop stars only sell well because of the "circus" around them. Kelly Clarkson would've never been as big as she is now with Idol. Does that discredit her? No. Same with Carrie Underwood. They both sell well and are well liked, but would've never been big without Idol. I think their albums and strong singles has a bigger part in why they succeeded so much (Breakaway, Some Hearts), because as Taylor Hicks demonstrated it isn't enough to only win AI. True, I don't think winning guarantees anything, but I still think they would've never been as big as they are now without Idol. Sure, they have big singles that helped, but without the start from Idol, they wouldn't be big stars.

i love the fact SuBo is selling a lot. She is the biggest "from rags to riches" story ever told, imo. Much bigger than Kelly or Carrie. Sure, you can argue hits and grammy awards and all that jazz, but a 47 year old woman (and an unattractive one) topping the charts 2 years in a row for MULTIPLE weeks and selling millions (especially in the US) is just amazing. The power of Subo!!!

i don't know why people on this board aren't more shocked by TI's numbers. he just came off a hugely successful album, is a very well established artist, and has actually gotten ok radio play from songs coming off this album. i guess people are really mad at him about going back to jail. i'm not, and i actually think his album is decent AND has radio friendly songs.

Either because there have been more than enough disappointments in 2010 like this (see BEP), or because some people think flops are excused when an artist is unable to do PROMO. I really don't think the jail thing affects, Kanye's ego didn't affect his sales and there was no excuses like this for all those albums that failed to hit 200k in their first week.

I'm not shocked because I don't know what he sold before. I knew what BEP sold before and their opening numbers took me by surprise. I realize their single isn't as huge as BBP but I thought they had a stronger core of support that would have put them nearer to a 200k opening week even without a hit the siz of the previous. ^^^ you mean the power of Christmas. She could'nt pull these numbers with a May release. That could be said of many people. There is a reason some artists stick to this sales month rather then taking a risk with a release earlier in the year. Her last album didn't die after Christmas last year though, even if people had predicted it would. This one might since the subject matter seems directed more to Christmas shoppers. I like that she does well. I'll never buy her music but it's nice having people succeeding who defy the current convention you must look a certain way or be played on Top40 to be relevant. Boyle doesn't belong on Top40 stations but she has every right to her success and she clearly appeals to a market that could care less about what some board favorites here are doing. Good for her for giving her audience what they want.

He has no hit out and can't promote due to, ya know, incarceration. This is not really a shocking result. If anything, the fact that he's still going to open higher than the BeP is, if not impressive, interesting.

it certainly is interesting that he's opening higher than BEP, but in no way (to me) shocking. they are a pop act, and rely completely on singles success to sell albums. granted, all of TI's albums have had huge hits (except for his 1st, "I'm Serious", and that album sold about 150k total), but they've all managed to sell 1 million plus (both "King" and "Paper Trail" sold 2 million). I guess it really is due to the fact that he has little radio/public support on this one. I just assumed he could hit 250k-300k 1st week. Hell, Cudi had higher 1st week numbers and he's not established and had NO hit in sight this time around.

I am shocked at Kanye's drop, nearly 80% from first to second week. If HITS' prediction for week three is correct, his album could see another 40-45% drop. That seems too much for an artist with such a seemingly large fanbase, like Kanye. Any comments ?

How much would Taylor have to sell by the end of the year to have the best selling album of the year?

How much would Taylor have to sell by the end of the year to have the best selling album of the year? As of last week's Billboard Soundscan chart: 2 SWIFT*TAYLOR SPEAK NOW 2,147,125 22 EMINEM RECOVERY 3,096,441 As of now, the official difference= 949,316 If HITS' prediction is correct in that Taylor sells ~ 200K this last sales week and if Eminem sells ~ 40-45K this week (as he has in the past few weeks), then the gap would close to ~ 785-800K. It is virtually impossible for Taylor to overtake Eninem for the best selling album of the calender year unless she sells ~300K per week for the next 3 weeks.

Thank you for that.
I think the next two weeks are going to be pretty crucial though. Taylor MIGHT sell 300k on Christmas week and around 250k the week after with all the gift cards. I think Big Machine might really push for this.

I don't think radio is the reason why Kanye isn't selling well...just like I don't think radio is the only reason Nicki is selling. Only 3 or so songs that are being played are from her album. The radio helped her tremendously but radio play doesn't always turn into album sales. Even established pop stars can't sell well even with mass saturation all over the radio.

I think Big Machine might really push for this. I didn't know it was that close. Well, Taylor is all over the place and if she can go from being projected to sell 750k to actually selling 1M, then I think she might have a shot at exceeding sales expectations for the next few weeks...still think that Eminem will outsell it by 100k or so...week shall see.

I know it won't happen, but that would be a great birthday gift for her if Taylor's CD went back to #1 Also, am I blind or did they forget to add Kanye's album to the chart? I don't believe he's sold less than 8k with 54% reporting.
