I'd like/wouldn't be shocked to see Scotty McCreery get some big numbers this holiday season. he ll likley outsell lee and kris, and possibly even taylor (hicks), but i dont think he ll be some HUGE smash

She's the biggest act from the UK to make it here since the Spice Girls. No, I would say Coldplay before her.

With the year not even half over. A bit early to declare number one secure Just seems like 21 is going to fly to/past 3.5m - not many albums in late 2011 will be able to even test those numbers. SuBo may release something but odds are, Taylor won't..and SuBo didn't crack 2m, if I recall by year-end '10. Gaga already released. Beyonce isn't looking too strong so far. I don't think Coldplay has the horsepower. TC3 took a LONG time to get to 3.5m so I doubt TC4 can get there, especially if it keeps getting delayed. Also, I said 'probably'. In other words, it's my prediction that Adele will have 2011's best-selling album. +1 Besides I don't think this year (2011) will see the phenomenons that were SuBo or Josh Groban. The former, with her whole Cinderella story, was shoved down everybody's throat by the media since like March. The latter was shoved down everybody's throat by Oprah... and well, her show is over. Besides, as of this week, Adele has a 2,000,000 + advantage over any other who might release later this year. She continues to sell well, and I bet my right hand on it, that she will sell well during the Holidays. Unless one of the following dies untimely and/or tragically: Madonna, Britney, GaGa, Taylor or Eminem.... I really don't see how could anyone really could reach and surpass Adele????

Artists expected to sell a zillion CDs more often than not, do not hit the level that people expect. If you read my other posts, I never said Adele would not finish #1 for the year. I just merely said that given that it is still mid-June, a whole bunch of possiblities still exist and that this is by no means "a lock"

Lady Antebellum hit the 2 million mark over a month before Adele did at this time last year. They finished the year at #2, with the #3 album only 40k behind them.

Even then it was still behind Eminem though. People didn't expect is to end the year at #1 and it didn't, so that's not a very good example.

Also, didn't it come out a month earlier than Adele and open about 100-150k higher? Were they selling 100k+/week in June?
I do think it's a good example though, of a (somewhat) unexpected massive seller.
I'm totally aware that we could have a surprise. But if I were to be a betting man, I'd put a good deal of money on Adele ending the year at #1.

I think any other year it would be a close race but looking at the album releases later on this year doesn't make me think it would be anyone but Adele.

Adele has also toured very well in the US. She's the biggest act from the UK to make it here since the Spice Girls. Idk if I'd say that. 19 wasn't that popular in the US, 21 is her first big effort. Let's see what happens with her other albums before we say that.

Coldplay are huge as well, I didn't consider them.

Well! I'm making all sorts of unfounded statements, aren't I? Ha!
I didn't consider Subo because she did not have any radio hits from her albums, has never toured and is not a critical darling.
Dido I was also incorrect about. Though she never had a hit the size of "Rolling in the Deep."

The Book Of Mormon will be reflected in next week's chart right... hopefully not this week's with just one day of sales... I would love to see it rocket into the top 10!

Hmm, if 54% is in and Gaga is at 64K(almost) with Adele at 85, how is one them gonna sell 120?
Or do they just report one set of numbers first? I'm so lost.

Yah, the percentage is supposed to represent the percentage of reporters' sales that are in. In the past, you could get a general idea from the percentage in, but in recent times, no, it's been kooky.

I wish Pink's label would give more recognition to the fact that she has been on the charts non stop for the last 3 years.

^Some labels, as we've seen, have less interest than others in those types of things and knowing every single feat.

I think I'm Not Dead was still in the Top 200 when Funhouse debuted. If so, then it's been over 4 years since she left.
