Go Weezie! I got from an inside source last week the label was expecting around 700k so this is right on target. There's also big pressure on Drake to pull similar numbers, but I'm not so sure.

fran, it's even crazier to think of the acts that didn't have a single No. 1 on the Hot 100. Did the Chilli Peppers try to get on the VMAs or something?

HG, RHCP haven't done major promo outside of maybe the talk shows. Lil Wayne's 'Carter IV' Now Aiming For 850,000 Debut; Red Hot Chili Peppers Likely Runner-UpAugust 30, 2011 By Keith Caulfield ( keith_caulfield), Los Angeles Yesterday (Aug. 29), initial first-week sales projections for Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV" were hovering in the 700,000-850,000 range, but now, after a full day's worth of sales under its belt, that number has grown. Industry sources now suggest the album may shift over 850,000-900,000 by week's end on Sept. 4.The album, released yesterday at 12 AM after the VMA awards, will undoubtedly hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 next week, marking Wayne's third chart-topper. Red Hot Chili Peppers' new "I'm With You" will be the likely runner-up to Lil Wayne next week, as the veteran rock band's set is looking to start with around 175,000-200,000 sold.If "Carter IV" shifts 850,000 or more, it will instantly mark the biggest sales week for a hip-hop album (or one by a male artist), since his own "Carter III" bowed with 1.01 million on the June 28, 2008 chart according to Nielsen SoundScan. "Carter III" is one of only 17 albums to have sold a million or more in one week since SoundScan began tracking data in 1991. "Carter IV" follows a pair of top-two sets for Wayne in 2010: "Rebirth" (No. 2) and "I Am Not a Human Being" (No. 1). They launched with 176,000 and 110,000 copies, respectively.

HITS projections: TUESDAY AFTERNOON QB: Based on Monday one-day sales reports, look for Cash Money/Universal Republic rap star Lil Wayne’s eagerly awaited Tha Carter IV to debut a week from today with between 850-900k, which compares very favorably to the record-shattering 1 million he scored back in June, 2008 for Tha Carter III. WB rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers’ I’m With You will bow at #2, with between 190-220k in sales, less than half of the 443k sold by 2006’s two-CD set Stadium Arcadium, which went on to sell 2.35 million to date. The single, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” is #1 at Alternative and Triple A and Top 5 at both Active and Mainstream Rock, while the band remains a sell-out arena attraction. Keep in mind several caveats, including a Monday release date, heavy frontloading and the lingering effects of Hurricane Irene. Other releases hitting this week include RCA Nashville's Jake Owen (50-50k) and Capitol/EMI’s David Guetta (30-35k). (8/30p)Higher projections for RHCP. And "Stadium Arcadium" sold way more than I thought. :o :o Decent sales for David Guetta too. :o

At the worst Carter album pulling in those numbers. Hype does major artists wonders.

Damn! I was hoping for lower numbers. Great for the music industry, though. Honestly, I think I'd rather see Justin Bieber scoring those huge sales figures than Lil Wayne. Can't stand hearing his horrible voice ruining every song he is featured in... So don't listen.. No ones forcing you. Well, excuse him for having an opinion! This is a message board. We discuss opinions, reviews, feelings...

This reminds me when DMX would consistently open w/ large numbers. Not anymore! I miss DMX. I hope this happens with Lil' Wayne. He is by far the most overrated commodity in the music industry. Pure trash. He could fart on an album for 60 minutes and his new fan base (which mostly reside in the suburbs) would still purchase. I bought RHCP album and it's good, but not on par with their last one. Promotion has been moderate to non-existent and should of performed at the VMAs. Probably would of made such a shit show better. However, they will probably debut in a lot of other countries at #1. They aren't a local act like Lil Wayne.

RCA Nashville's Jake Owen (50-50k) So I assume this is predicted to sell 50k?
And Stadium Arcadium was horrible and even a double album. Double horrible. Made me appreciate BSSM and Californication even more though.

www.hitsdailydouble.com/news/newsPage.cgi?news08673NOTHING LIL ABOUT WAYNE Tha Carter IV Could Hit 900k, Chili Peppers Next with 200-225k August 31, 2011 You know it don’t come Weezy, but Lil Wayne pulls it off again. The prolific hip-hop superstar’s eagerly awaited Cash Money/Universal Republic album, Tha Carter IV, hit retail last Monday and is on target for sales of 870-900k in its first week. Based on first-day sales from those retailers not selling corn dogs to Tea Party candidate Michele Bachmann, the album will easily debut at #1 on next week’s HITS chart. The rapper’s last installment in the series, Tha Carter III, sold 1.005m on release in June, 2008. Warner Bros. rockers Red Hot Chili Peppers’ I’m With You is on target for sales between 200-225k, making it a lock for #2. That total is dwarfed by its last album, 2006’s Stadium Arcadium, which bowed with 443k on its way to 2.3million. The first single, “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie,” is #1 at Alternative and Triple A and Top 5 at both Active and Mainstream Rock. RCA Nashville Florida-born country star Jake Owen’s Barefoot Blue Jean Night, his first since 2009’s Easy Does It, is looking like 45-50k in his first week, a nice gain over the previous album’s 23k. Capitol/EMI dance maestro David Guetta’s Nothing but the Beat debuts with 33-38k, while Lenny Kravitz’s Roadrunner bow, Black and White America, should do between 15-20k.

Perhaps Lenny bothers because he enjoys making music? Just a hunch. ;) He's never been a HUGE albums act- he's only had three top 10 albums, after all, with his top certified titles at 2 million each.

^WHY does Lenny Kravitz even bother?? The last album did a decent (if not underwhelming) 73k opening and he was already past his commercial peak then. This is just completely dismal, but I guess him/his management/label will learn their lesson from the lack of promo.

Beyonce's VMA Pregnancy Announcement Could Spark Sales Increase
August 31, 2011
By Keith Caulfield, Los Angeles
As Billboard.biz previously reported, next week's No. 1 album on the Billboard 200 will likely go to Lil Wayne's "Tha Carter IV." But the rest of the chart should boast some interesting arrivals and moves.
Beyonce could benefit from the announcement of her pregnancy on the MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 28. Her most recent album, "4," might jump back into the top 10 with perhaps a 40% sales increase. The set could sell anywhere between 30,000 and 40,000 copies by week's end on Sept. 4. Beyonce's Video Music Award performance of "Love on Top" will also likely debut on Digital Songs and Billboard Hot 100 charts.
The most recent tracking week ended on Sunday night, so the bulk of the VMA impact will be felt next week.
Last week, "4" fell 9-12 (21,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan; down 17%) in its ninth chart week -- moving out of the top 10 for the first time since its debut. The set debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in July. If "4" gains next week, it will be the first time the album has posted a weekly sales increase since its arrival.
Other VMA performers and winners who are looking to spark some of the biggest gains in the wake of the awards' highest rated show ever include performers Adele, Young the Giant, Chris Brown and Jessie J, and winners Britney Spears and Tyler, the Creator.
Elsewhere on the Billboard 200 next week, expect Red Hot Chili Peppers' "I'm With You" to start at No. 2 with around 200,000 sold, while Adele's "21" looks good to take the No. 3 slot.
David Guetta's "Nothing But the Beat" and Jake Owen's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night" are both eyeing starts in the top 10 as well.

OH. MY. GOD. at the top 3. :o :o All their projections keep increasing, specifically Adele's! Great week for sales and we're not even in the Holiday season!
Weezy has his sights set on 1m as his Cash Money/Universal Republic Tha Carter IV shows no signs of slowing down. There are many variables this week as VMA performers are seeing huge increases, the East Coast cleans up after Hurricane Irene, a Monday release date and the approaching Labor Day weekend, which could swing the numbers in any direction. Here's how it looks headed into the long weekend:
*Lil Wayne (Cash Money/Universal Republic) 925-975k *Red Hot Chili Peppers (Warner Bros.) 215-240k Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 125-150k Jay Z & Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/Roc Nation) 80-85k *David Guetta (Capitol/EMI) 45-50k *Jake Owen (RCA Nashville) 45-50k Game (Interscope) 40-45k Beyonce (Columbia) 35-40k Now 39 (Capitol/EMI) 30-35k Barbra Streisand (Columbia) 30-35k Foster the People (Columbia) 27-30k Luke Bryan (Capitol Nashville) 27-30k Lady Gaga (Interscope) 24-27k Jason Aldean (Broken Bow) 24-27k Adele 19 (XL/Columbia) 21-24k
*Debuts (9/1p)

Looks like Lil' Wayne is coming for 1m! Wow. I expected 700-750k but this is huge! Better than initial predictions for RHCP and WOW at Adele. Nice to see Beyonce & Gaga get bumps too.
Also great for Foster The People!

Huge increases for Adele and Beyonce! :o Lil Wayne might even cross a million, though an Amazon "agreement" would seal the deal.

Born This Way doesn't look like it's benefiting quite as much as 21 and 4.
Lil Wayne's numbers are crazy- but in a good way (even though I'm not really a fan).

Adele 21 (XL/Columbia) 125-150k (last week 82K)
Lady Gaga (Interscope) 24-27k (last week 19k)
Talk about contrasting fortunes and reactions to major TV promo. :o

Wow, Slaydele dragging bishes all over. Get it, BeyBey ;) Edit: I just realized that if Lil wayne outsell's nicki by the billboard year, he will have the #1 album of the year...oh, no. Nicki would be the first female rapper to achieve it. i don't know who to root for. ???

Let's hope Bey's label makes Love On Top a single. I didn't know about the track before the VMAs, but it's actually quite good, and it looks like the performance was well received.
David Guetta is pulling great numbers considering his history. I don't think One Love ever got a top 50 peak, let alone top 10.
