I have a feeling Adele could easily be this year's "mom gift" cd like Susan Boyle was. If she is her sales are gonna bloowwwwwwww up. I can see it happening.

The big holiday sellers are always newer releases, I've checked the top 3 of the holiday seasons of the last 10 years or so, it's always 4th quarter releases in the top 3. The big titles from the earlier parts of the year tend to resurface in the top 10 towards of the season. Don't think this year will be any different. After the labour day lulls, a ton of releases are shoved out til Santa comes.

The best-selling album of 2009 was released in 2008.

^I meant the biggest sellers during the 7 week period of the Christmas holiday season, not the whole year
Biggest sellers of 2010 holiday season were Speak Now and The Gift, the biggest of 2009 were I Dreamed a Dream and My Christmas, 2008 was Fearless - all 4th quarter releases.

Adele is looking to have the #1 album and the #1 selling song of the year with both selling over 5 million. That's pretty incredible!! Whisper it.... but I think there's a decent chance she will have 2x 5 million selling songs by year end. :o

What are the odds that Adele's album will not leave the top 10 through the rest of the year? :)

What are the odds that Adele's album will not leave the top 10 through the rest of the year? :) 99.9% Regarding Adele having 2 5m sellers, that is pretty much 0% in my opinion. RITD was massive and it is just now approaching 5m. No chance SLY could do it twice as fast.

SLY has gone straight to the top of the Hot100 after one TV appearance and with low airplay - RITD had numerous high profile TV promos in February and never hit the top until the airplay became big. SLY's airplay is also on a much steeper up slope compared to RITD and by the end of the month will be 100m+. That's a lot of exposure. Time will tell, I guess.

Let's not forget how huge those digital sales are at the end of the year as well.

To hit 5m by the end of the year SLY needs to AVERAGE more than 250k every single week for the rest of the year. I don't think any single has ever done that by anyone ever. I'll put $1000 down right now that it will definitely not hit 5m by the end of the year.

It's a massive, seemingly impossible task but this IS Adele in 2011. ;) PS I'm talking actual end of year, not BB end of year, btw.

Worldwide, Susan Boyle will be multiple millions behind Adele by the year end. I said it on another thread, '21' will probably outsell the nearest rival by 2:1 by year end worldwide. Ever been done before?

Don't underestimate Tony Bennett. I doubt he'll pass Adele but he could be a distant #2 for the year.

Don't underestimate Tony Bennett. I doubt he'll pass Adele but he could be a distant #2 for the year. And her biggest competition for the Grammy Awards. If she were to lose to anyone for Album Of The Year, it'll be him ala Herbie Hancock / Amy Winehouse.

I don't have as much faith in Duets II. Everyone thought the first Duets album would be a huge seller as well.

I think Tony Bennett is a bigger threat if he dies before the Grammys...Idk but everyone in the music industry loves Adele and "21" IS the album of the year, no doubt...if they didn't mind giving the award to Taylor Swift mostly due to her huge sales, I don't think why would be different with Adele. Many talk about Amy album of the year snub, but let's not forget that there was a lot of controversy surrounding and many Grammy voters are conservative so I wouldn't be surprise if her wacko life had a negative effect in this case.

I don't have as much faith in Duets II. Everyone thought the first Duets album would be a huge seller as well. The second one seems to have more buzz and has a wider array of featured artists that the first one lacked.
