If those other Lil Wayne albums had sold 1m copies in their opening weeks, do you really think the fans would be saying "they don't count"? too bad they didn't. but no. IANAHB would still not be a proper album even if it sold 1 million the 1st week. it would have been AMAZING, but no, not a proper album.

i don't even care about this "streak", whatever that is. i'm just saying wayne fans don't see those 2 albums as legitimate as the rest of his discography.

Okay, if you think that Rebirth and IANAHB are "real" Weezy albums, how would you explain such big difference in sales between these 2 albums with Carter III and IV? The only explanation is that fans knew that these albums aren't real follow-ups to Tha Carter III. Hip Hop communty accepted IANAHB as street album/EP/retail mixtape but not as real album. Label released just 1 single from it.

Great top 5 sales week for the industry! Could Susan Boyle be the third artist to reach that million mark in a week?

If the 2 "fake" Lil Wayne albums had sold well, they would be held in higher regard than they are by you and the "core" fans that you are referencing. Then these albums would achieve "real" status and be as real as anything from "Tha Carter" series.
Sales levels should not be the guiding factor. Fact is, these very real albums were released and fell below standards set by "Tha Carter"

Okay. So let's say Billboard has Wayne at 990K. Is that the official end all?

The fact that Wayne can sell close to or hit 1 million albums without some gimmick where they give the album away for free is pretty amazing.

This is the least hyped 1 million opening week ever. It feels like Billboard is going to say, nope, it's just 999.8K or something.

LOL this thing won't die. Was this right next to all the school supplies at Walmart? Labor Day weekend sales? His real album is going to have a really good opening week next month.

Holy crap at Lil' Wayne...I'm guessing no one has ever come that close to selling EXACTLY 1 million haha. Wonder what SS #s will be.
ADELE OMG WTF THIS IS INSANE SHE IS ABSOLUTELY UNSTOPPABLE. Seriously though, WTF. I'm happy.

Fact is, these very real albums were released and fell below standards set by "Tha Carter" 2m, you need to realize that these hypotheticals are irrelevant for 2 reasons. 1) Both of those releases did sell well, especially relative to their content and marketing. If you have some set number of what "well" constitutes, I'd like to hear it, because it sounds like you are the one saying that sales are somehow the guiding factor. 2) Just because and album is official (i.e., it is released by the record label) does not make it what fans would call "real". For instance, Amy Winehouse's label could release some terrible material she recorded while still alive and call it an "official album". The fans, however, would likely not count it in her true discography.

Excellent increase for both Adele and Beyonce. Stefani Gaga's increase- meh. Maybe some viewers didn't know it was her performing. Not a bad second-week drop for Babs.

If the label deems as an "official album", then it's an official album, otherwise every single flopped album wouldn't be considered real albums and there'd be no such thing as flopped albums. If they weren't "real" albums, then wouldn't have been allowed to chart on the Billboard 200 at all. Are you going to say Christina's "Bionic" wasn't a "real" album becuase it didn't sell as well as her previous ones.

This week saw the whole top 3 over 150k. Great news for the music industry. Cannot believe Adele's sales! She'll reach 5mil by the end of the year. Hopefully next year she can pass 7-8mil and maybe in the long term even reach diamond?!

BTW- was it sale-pricing that sparked Kelly Rowland's increase? RE Lil Wayne- IANAHB sold more than Rebirth[/i[, and, yes, both are "proper" albums. Both filled with all-new material- and it's not like Lil Wayne was against the release of either (he was in jail during the release of IANAHB, but that was of no doing but his own, obviously).
I suppose Garth Brooks' In the Life of Chris Gaines isn't a "proper" album?

who cares about the Lil' Wayne albums. The opening numbers "flopped" because they were albums full of mostly outtakes and Rock music. Either way, together they've sold album 1.8 million in the US.
--------------
Last 3 weeks:
The Throne: 426,661 / 436,000 The Throne: 170,692 / 177,000 Game: 96,460 / 98,000
first number is HDD finals and the 2nd is Billboard.
In every case, HDD finals went up. In some cases, a lot!
Looks like Weezy most likely will have over 1 milli officially sold!!!!!

This has to be a worry for Interscope going forward. Gaga has promo'd her ass off this era and nothing seems to be connecting with the general public. Plus I'm sure the album launch must be up there with the costliest in history...

Still think "Marry The Night" should be the next single for America. Single sales are for Katy Perry et al. It's albums sold that Gaga will be judged on. Take out the first week of 99c deals and little monster multi buys and you haven't got much to look at to be honest.
