I like most of the people performing, but for some reason I am just not excited about this year like I have been past years. I wish Kesha was debuting her lead single.

Wow. For the most part, performers who can actually sing without the use of autotune. Nice to see for a change. Frank Ocean uses plenty of auto-tune and I'm guessing you've never seen Taylor and Rihanna performances? That's why I said "for the most part." At least there isn't the usual plethora of autotune divas this year.

Yeah, I think that's what most of us seem to be thinking in one form or another. While I'm sure most of the names on the list so far are good performers, the entertainment value can only be so high because so far, none of them are likely to bring any major drama or are unleashing a new single or something big. Basically, we know what to expect.

I think you're making this into a bigger issue than it needs to be. Those people have a point when mentioning Beyonce and GaGa as being bigger names than Alicia. They aren't saying Alicia isn't recognizable but she hasn't been as big in the last few years so if she were announced as one of the performers, frankly, people would be a bit confused as to why because she hasn't really been in the public at all this year to warrant a performance spot and while a new album/single would be anticipated, I haven't seen much in the way of buildup for that yet. Not at all. I just simply mention I find it strange and then a reply followed with a comparison with two other artists (which wasn't the discussion when I stated my comment). This MTV performance is the buildup. Her promo schedule this era is quite similar to As I Am where she came from out of nowhere to debut her lead single on MTV Award. It's pretty obvious to me so maybe I am missing why it's not clicking with other posters. I guess if she was a pop artist and coming out of hiatus then it would be seen differently. Hmm, just saying, not really saying anything but just said it...

I think there's actually a good variety of performers here who should be on stage. I'm a music fan, I love seeing artists who can be musically entertaining. I don't give two shits about who is going to make out with who on stage or what ridiculous costume someone might be wearing. I'm not anti pop music either, maybe I'm just getting old here at the age of 24?? I feel like each time a Kesha gets on stage music takes a kick in the crotch.

2012 - Mercy(?) performance (nominated for Mercy, Paris, Otis) 2011 - Otis surprise performance (nominated for E.T., All of the Lights, Power) 2010 - Runaway performance (nominated for Forever) 2009 - Taylorgate (nominated for Love Lockdown) 2008 - Love Lockdown performance (nominated for Good Life, Homecoming) 2007 - Stronger performance (nominated for Stronger) 2006 - (nominated for Gold Digger) 2005 - Gold Digger performance (nominated for Jesus Walks) 2004 - Through The Wire/All Falls Down/Jesus Walks performance (nominated for All Falls Down, Slow Jamz, Talk About Our Love) King of the post y2k VMAs. Insane however, that he has only won 4 awards, 2 of which were for E.T. with Katy. Gold Digger, Stronger, Jesus Walks, Welcome To Heartbreak, Love Lockdown, All Falls Down, All Of The Lights, Runaway, Amazing, Paranoid, ETC. are worth much more than that.

Calvin Harris added to VMA Preshow- Demi Lovato And Calvin Harris Confirmed For MTV Video Music Awards 'Pre-Show' Launch The showbiz pair will be warming up the crowds before the event! The MTV Video Music Awards 2012 are taking place next Thursday (September 6) and Calvin Harris and X Factor USA judge Demi Lovato have now been confirmed to provide a pre-show soundtrack to the hour long show. The Scottish star, alongside Demi, will warm-up the crowd before the all-important event takes place, with the X Factor judge singing latest single ‘Give Your Heart A Break’, before performers such as One Direction, Rihanna and Taylor Swift take to the stage for the massive event. The pre-show shenanigans will allow fans to witness some backstage action as well as see some of the biggest red carpet names in pop arriving at the music extravaganza. The VMA’s have seen some great moments in the past and some maybe not so great moments (looking at you, Kanye!) and this year is set to be no different as we can expect to see some massive names take to that all-important stage. However, amongst the many amazing performances lined up, for once it seems that Justin Bieber has NOT been invited to do his thing on the stage. The teen heart-throb recently took to Twitter to say: “I would perform. always ready. #vmas #votebieber,” But as far as we know, still no news on a Biebs’ performance. Boooo...get posting that hashtag, Beliebers! Who's excited to see who's crowned our 2012 VMA winners? www.entertainmentwise.com/news/86280/Demi-Lovato-And-Calvin-Harris-Confirmed-For-MTV-Video-Music-Awards-Pre-Show-Launch

Not sure if this was posted, but this will be Green Day's fifth VMAs performance, which, supposedly, is second only to Madonna's seven.

I took the word of some article online. Should have checked myself. :)
I see on YouTube that Kanye performed "Good Life" with T.I. in 2007. I don't see anything about "Stronger"? Not counting this year, that would be six performances, then.
Not sure if this is entirely accurate, but RE Rihanna:
2005: Pon de Replay 2007: Umbrella (and with Chris Brown) 2008: Disturbia/Seven Nation Army 2012: ?
Now- next question would be, who has *appeared* at the most VMAs? That one may take some research.

so no Whitney Houston tribute? thats ashame That's a mess. Whitney was the first black woman whose music videos became MTV staples. MTV has lost it though, so that's not surprising.

No matter what they plan, it will not outdo the tribute she got at the BET Awards.

A Youtube phenomenom with a song that solg 5 million+ and still selling strong, the longest Hot 100 #1 of the year, pop #1, and a follow-up song in the top 10 and 1 million+ sold already? No she doesn't compare to Adele at this point, but you can't just call her a Youtube phenomenon. She's holding her own on radio quite well so far. Erm.. are you seriously comparing a fresh Youtube phenomenon to the biggest selling artist of the decade? Right. I don't even know how Carly looks. This is a valid point. She finally started doing some promo, but still isn't really all over the place yet. With the album coming out in 2 weeks you will probably see more of her then.
