I like David and he has a very good voice. But I would really like to see a degree of variety from him in his singles -- like more than one tempo

^ And production that doesn't bury him. Seriously, how does Frank Liddell get ANY production jobs? 90% of his stuff is so freaking loud and compressed that it just sounds like garbage.

To each their own, but I love his style. He's very different from the other country artists I like (I tend to prefer more traditional-leaning sounds), but I just love everything about the feel of his music and the way his voice has such color to it and a perfect tone. The tempos and production treatments for his music have all been spot-on imo, and I've come to embrace David Nail as one of my Top 3 male country artists alongside Josh Turner and Chris Young.

The Sound Of A Million Dreams still remains one of my favorite albums, it's a shame that the title track couldn't get much airplay. "Songs For Sale", "She Rides Away", "That's How I'll Remember You"... just so many album-track gems.

It's a shame that "Songs for Sale" wasn't a single, because that's my personal favorite album cut, but it really is unfortunate that there's been so much potential on both of his albums and he can only seem to get 1 big hit per record. I'm really hoping that changes with this record though.

My personal favorite track from The Sound Of A Million Dreams remains "She Rides Away". It's such a shame that that song never got released. Maybe Eric Paslay will get an album out and release it himself, since he co-wrote it. He decided to record "Friday Night" which Lady A already did, so maybe he'll add one or two other co-writes to his album even if they already appeared on someone else's album.
Hopefully David's new music is good. I'm definitely looking forward to it.

I saw him perform last night in Annapolis -- good lord he is talented! His voice is really unbelievable live. He played this new single and it got a great reaction. Definitely super catchy and I think it could do really well at radio.
And speaking of radio, I still don't understand how "Sound of a Million Dreams" didn't succeed. He talked a little bit about it before playing the song last night, and said he was disappointed it didn't do what he hoped. And also added that he's really tired of of people telling him he only sings depressing songs, so is trying for a happier sound on this album...

I think Sound of a Million Dreams is my favorite song of his. Such an amazing song. I loved the new song too. I thought the opening guy, Matt Gary, was pretty good too. His tunes were catchy. Looking forward to seeing if he gets a song on the radio (I think he said August).

^ I reveiewed Matt Gary's "I'm Just Sayin'" a while back and remember liking it, but somehow I didn't save the mp3.
David Nail has a great voice, and TSoaMD was an amazing song. Despite my gripes about Liddell's production, Red Light, Turning Home, and Let It Rain are still great songs otherwise. And TSoaMD itself was actually quite well produced.

Hopefully he'll get some traction soon. Also does anyone know who wrote "Whatever She's Got"? For some reason I tend to like the songs Nail co-writes more than the others...and they seem to do better at radio ("Turning Home" did fine obviously, but not as well as "Red Light" and "Let It Rain").

Matt Gary has released a few singles through the independent label Quarterback Records in the last couple of years. That label is a small one though and doesn't really have traction at the primary stations that make up the Billboard and Mediabase charts. Matt has charted some songs on the secondary and music row charts, though. In order to ever get a shot on the main charts, though, he'd likely need to jump ship to a bigger label. QB isn't really aimed at the major market charts...they're just not a big enough label and don't have the resources to do so. As for "Whatever She's Got", I'm not sure who it's written by, but I think it may be this ASCAP listing. The title here is "Whatever She Got" but we see minor title changes like that all the time (for example, Kenny Chesney's "Pirate Flag" was listed as "Pirate Flag And A Hula Girl" in the BMI database). The songwriters listed for this particular ASCAP listing are Jon Nite and Jimmy Robbins. Jon Nite has had several country cuts lately (Dierks Bentley's "Tip It On Back" and Thompson Square's "Glass") while Robbins is newer to the Nashville scene but did co-write Blake Shelton's "Sure Be Cool If You Did" and Thomas Rhett's brand new single "It Goes Like This". I can't confirm that this is the Nail song but I have a hunch that it may be.

Someone asked Matt if we would hear him on the radio and I believe he said he had spent the last year touring the radio stations, so that when his single comes out, he could call in and ask them to play it. Not sure how that would work though if he doesn't have a big enough label to support that. I'd like to see him get a shot though.

My favortie unreleased David Nail tracks are "Strangers On A Train" and "Catch You While I Can", I think both could've been huge.

I would love to see these polls with every song. I hope people participate in them, at least for the big stars. It really helps to see the community's breakdown as soon as I open each thread.

Actually, that is a REALLY good idea. Is this a thing that is being tested on this song with the potential to be applied to all the new songs? I think it would be fascinating to see this for all of the popular songs/new threads as they get started. It definitely could be seen as distracting, especially right now with only two votes on it. But if lots of people were to provide their input it would make a very visual representation of the general Pulse consensus on a given song; almost like a "summary" of the song's reception among members of the board without having to read an entire thread to see if more people like it or dislike it.

I have to disagree. I think it's distracting and it's no better than someone posting a one liner in the thread.

Not a fan of the poll. I hope that doesn't become a thing. I really think those kinds of things should be saved for The Polling Booth, because I'm not keen on the idea of each thread here having a poll attached to it.

I have to disagree. I think it's distracting and it's no better than someone posting a one liner in the thread. That's a good point; I can see where you are coming from. It definitely could end up being used incorrectly as a place for people to express whether they like or dislike a song without contributing much to a discussion. On the other hand, I see it as maybe a place where the people who would normally post one-liners without contributing to the discussion can provide their input on a song without cluttering the thread with one-liners! I feel like once more people submit their votes on a song, it will provide a visual depiction of the general attitude towards that song. If it is distracting, it is extremely easy to ignore, whereas (at least for me) one-liners are not. Plus if it proves to be an unnecessary distraction that gets in the way of critical discussion, it would be really easy to nix the idea. I don't really care if these polls start happening or not. I will say that I am definitely not averse to the idea :)

I have to disagree. I think it's distracting and it's no better than someone posting a one liner in the thread. I'm with rowdawg21 here, so I took down the poll. However, if I find out it's something a lot of people are interested in, we can certainly open up the idea for discussion. My thoughts mirror those of .indulgecountry though--Pulse does have a sub-forum labeled Polling Booth in which many similar polls can be found (ie, polls for rating songs) and polls can be made by anyone, as long as they are appropriate and in good taste. What I wouldn't really care to see in the country forum is a handful of threads with polls attached to them, while many other threads remain devoid of polls. Anyway, if anyone has any questions/concerns, please feel free to PM me or drock89.

Also Jon Nite and Jimmy Robbins are indeed the song's writers. It was produced by Chuck Ainlay, Glenn Worf and Frank Liddell. The trio who produce Miranda and The Pistol Annies latest albums.

Can we do a poll on grading his new hairstyle? LOL. That picture doesn't even capture the full effect. When I saw him a few weeks ago, I was like what the heck is with that hair? It's like a mokawk in the middle, but not spiked, and then very little on the sides. I can't figure out why he didn't just go with short all the way around. He looks totally different to me than he used to and not in a good way. But I'll still enjoy his music! :)

He's a very attractive man, but that's not his best look. Anyway, I really love the sound of "Whatever She's Got," even though I haven't heard the recorded version yet. But it sort of makes me sad, too, because the reason I connected so much to him as an artist is because of the honesty in his lyrics. Yes, some are depressing, but so is life sometimes! WSG seems like a fun song (and really he has such a fantastic voice it will sound good with anything) but I hope that if this single does well, he won't shy away from the kind of topics that made me love his music in this first place.

Here's a listening link. Not sure how long it's going to stay up.
Better than most of the other pop junk on the chart now, but not my favorite. I hope this isn't the direction his new album is going. I do enjoy this song, but I fear I won't hear another song like "Clouds" from him again.

I'm really enjoying this. It could be partly that I'm so excited for new David Nail music that I'll take anything. I was honestly afraid they were going to drop him after only releasing 2 singles from the last album and TSOAMD performing so poorly after LIR hit #1. It's nice to have something with more tempo from him and something that's catchy. It's been stuck in my head for hours. This isn't my favorite song from him by any means but I just hope that maybe this one will bring him some more success. He's too good not to have another hit.
