ROBIN THICKE – Blurred Lines f/Pharrell & T.I: 269.688 (+2.691) Does it imply that more and more people are listening to the song or that it has been played more times? (I know it is such a stupid question, but anyway lol) How many weeks will this be at #1 on airplay for "Blurred Lines"? How many weeks can it go? Challenge the Goo Goo Dolls' 18 weeks for "Iris"?! How many weeks has "Blurred Lines" already been at #1 on airplay?

I can't believe Clarity is so high, I didn't know material by Zedd would be so radio friendly, would love to see it in the year end top 25. It can't be often that a song that misses the top 10 makes the year-end top 25 (although I think The Motto managed it last year). Amazingly, Paula Cole's "I Don't Want to Wait" missed the top ten (peaked at #11 I believe) but was the #10 song for the year. (I forget when that was... 1997?) But, yes, pretty rare.

The spins mean how many times it has been played.

I think the fall of "Blurred Lines" is going to be interesting. Peaking at #1 on multiple formats at the same time is going to lead to some rather hefty losses once it starts to drop.

Since Blurred Lines still has not peaked yet, I might want to hold off on crowning Katy and Gaga with a #1 song

How fast did WBT fall? But I guess it depends not so much by the massive amount of airplay but more so on the ascent of the second single.

I would love if it they debuted at #1, but I have a strong feeling that they'll both be blocked. That is, they could reach #1 later, but only after Blurred Lines has broken One Sweet Day's record.

I think his 2nd single will also help with the decline. It's just started charting on Pop.

I love Gaga (obvs). And Katy (tho to be honest would have liked a longer break from her). But I wish they were weren't releasing this month. I would like to see how far Blurred Lines could go without being held off by an insane debut week. I do think Robin has a pretty good chance of holding both of them off in the short term though. Edit: Wow, had no idea pulse had something against using t b h as an abbreviation.

So what I'm guessing Robin has 9 & 10 for sure. Then when katy debuts she will probably have higher sales but incredibly lower airplay debuting at 2, giving BL 11 weeks. Gaga debuts with significantly higher sales and higher airplay then katy because she was gone longer and her video will release on the same day so she has a better chance at debuting at 1 but probably won't and gives BL 12 weeks. And if, the VMA sales aren't enough then he might, just might get 14 weeks.

I feel like at some point everything will be dropping except TBTN, S&S and HG, all the songs have been charting for quite a while now and should be peaking soon.

^Don't think that's going to happen, but would be crazy for BL to best two of Mariah's big records with one song. Edit: Ugh, that's in response to two above me

Then if "Blurred Lines" gets 17 weeks at #1, I wonder for how many years will it hold the record? Mariah held it for a good 17 years.
Robin, Pharrell & T.I. are snatching Mimi records, first the airplay and now it's looking to at least tie "We Belong Together". :(
I love BL but I hope either "Roar" or "Applause" will dethrone it.

I don't think Katy will debut at #1, nor is her label putting all their eggs in one basket to do so. Gaga might because she IS, but it will only be for 1 week before BL snatches it back. Or Katy.

*sigh* Neither Katy or Gaga will debut at #1. It's impossible for either to do so. They will both debut in the lower 1/4th of the chart off of airplay alone due to the tracking period of airplay ending on Tuesday. Both songs will have 2 days of big airplay totals for their first week, leading to a debut in the 70-100 region. It won't be until the week after where digital sales and streaming will come into effect. Only then will it be possible for either artist to hit #1. (If either of them do.) So I repeat, ahem... Neither Katy or Gaga will debut at #1. Thank you.

Forget debuting at #1. Katy and Gaga both have a major challenge to hit #1 in the next month.

I wonder if Blurred Lines wasn't in the picture would Gaga be releasing the video on Day 1 still?

Let's not be leaving Boyz II Men out of the record quoting. :) The boyz were a big part, along with Mimi, as to why that single had such a lengthy Hot 100 run at the time.
I'd be surprised if BL lasted that long at the top of the Hot 100, but odder stuff has happened.

Fine, then "reach #1 in their first full week".

Why would either of these ladies release a single on a friday? It makes no sense. They are going to get out of the box spins like as if they were already top 10 at pop radio anyway. They should take full advantage of that and release their records on Monday at 12am to both radio, itunes and youtube.

^Aren't they releasing on Mondays? In any event, the Hot 100 Airplay period is Wed.-Tues., so, if a track gets big first-day play because of an airplay promotion, it wouldn't be reflected with its first week of sales.
If it were Friday, that wouldn't be so bad (five days of airplay to go with the first week of sales).

The way you guys were talking I was fully expecting friday releases from both. whew! I was like they need to get a million in sales and I think they will be just fine to debut at #1 with radio and a video in place.

^They very well may have enough airplay from the first couple of days to debut a week prior to the week that would include sales and streaming. If they have huge first days, they're going to need big second days, too, otherwise they'll end up on bubbling under for those couple of days.

You're right. the radio week is different from the sales week which always made absolutely no sense to me. Makes planning a hassle. Billboard needs to change that rule. It'd be much less controversial.

that's why a Wednesday premiere (with the intent to debut at #1 or at least high) is best. Not Monday.
