Given that Take Back The Night never went above Mirrors in its whole chart run, does anyone know any other instances where a follow up singe was below its predecessor during its entire run on the charts? Katy's Thinking Of You comes to mind, as well as Rihanna's Right Now. "Blah Blah Blah" & "TiK ToK" I believe.

I believe LeAnn Rimes did it with "How Do I Live" and then the follow-up "You Light Up My Life," which came out three months later. The album did contain both songs, so....

So, which song will last longer -- Radioactive or Sail? I would've bet on Radioactive a few months ago but Sail is just chugging along endlessly it seems. I kinda like the song but would never have guessed it would appeal so broadly. it was featured in this cool skydiving video this adrenaline junky posted that got tons of hits. so that I think has helped prolong it's climbing

I am SOOOOOO happy :) LORDE made it to #1. Now hopefully she or someone else can keep Katy Perry from returning. Even that horrid YLVIS song would be better than Katy Perry. Please let these people hear how bad Roar is. Stop buying it. Petition ! Petition.

Think of all the one-hit wonders we've had, not to mention disappointing follow-ups. Judas comes to mind. Did that ever pass Born This Way during its run?

I would not bother petitioning about Katy Perry but some of those lyrics for Roar is just cringeworthy.
"Now Iβm floating like a butterfly Stinging like a bee I earned my stripes I went from zero, to my own hero"
Plus the eye of the tiger. A Mohammed Ali reference & a 1980's reference to Eye of the Tiger/Rocky . I have a hard time believing Katy Perry wrote that. Sounds more like it's written by a 50 year old.

The phrase "float like a butterfly, sting like a bee" is pretty ubiquitous even if people don't know to attribute it to Mohammed Ali. Eye of the Tiger is also a song that is known very well throughout all generations. At least that's my experience. I'm 21, and most of my friends are familiar with these references. Not saying they're not clichΓ©d. They are, but I don't really care. I'm just saying people in their 20s are definitely familiar enough with Mohammed Ali and Rocky to make these references.

Hah, that's probably what it is. I'm way past 21 so to me it feels dated but to someone younger it probably feels fresher. It's very popular so someone must love it. I actually like Applause better but that's not selling as well.

Well, I mean, how old is Dr. Luke and his team? I am assuming 40s at least? It makes sense the lyrics would be a bit dated/generic. People adore and love it though.

Or maybe realize that people have their own tastes and just because you don't like it doesn't mean it's bad? Get over yourself.
and congrats to Lorde! She was born in 1996. I feel ancient.
I'm going to need Burn to climb up these charts.
