No it's not something like that! I'm just curious why trap queen is that successful! Obviously a lot of people (myself included, even though I know I used to not like it) find it catchy and it's suitable for clubs and parties and stuff.

There are hundreds of songs on chart that are popular for various reasons... and in most cases it can't be explained in detail. I don't get why Trap Queen is any different. Plus it has sold over 2m downloads so it's not really a streaming only hit. I don't see the fuss about it, it's no Harlem Shake in terms of chart performance.
The fact that someone doesn't like it, doesn't make it any special.

It seems pretty likely now that CFMF will win this week. Airplay will remain higher, while sales should be pretty similar to CL. Last week, the difference in streaming was around 3M which should easily be taken care of by the video release.
Apart from that, I don't expect too much movement in the Top-10, except for maybe My Way dropping out of Top-10 and The Hills coming back in.

Well by 1998, she did have 3 top 10s and 4 top 20s. So I can see why she made that cover. She ended up with 1 more top 20 5 years later.

She never really was a global superstar though and her decline in popularity was so quick. But in 1998 she definitely gather some interest. 2003 equivalent might have had Ashanti in the cover?

Well it was 1998. Jewel and Shania were both out of place on that cover (both were relatively new at the time). Janet should have been on there instead.

Both were on their second major release albums at the time (Shania already had The Woman In Me selling huge in 95 before Come On Over and Jewel had Spirit after Pieces Of You). I'd have put Janet in there instead of Jewel.

I'm confused by that cover. New pop divas? Mariah and Celine (ignoring her pre-English debut) were 8 years onto the scene by that time. Madonna was 16 years in. Whitney was 14 years in. Shania and Jewel are the only ones that make sense.

A new single from One Direction? Where did that come from?
And the way it is going on itunes, we could be looking at Top-5 debut, maybe even as high as #3. :o (obviously on next week's chart, not this week).

We'll have to see how it does the rest of the week. She's Kinda Hot also shot to #1 its first day but then nosedived after that and only debuted at #22 on the Hot 100.

CFMF is 0.1516 on iTunes, the leading of the new 1D song is very impressive

Could be even almost 200k...I mean it's at damn near 7x the sales of the next-highest song right now :O I know "Right Round" holds the record for the most sales in a week with 636k, but is there a record for the most sales in a day? I figure it would probably be difficult to keep track of that but I was just wondering in case there's a stat about it out there.

Dust paid to The Velvet Rope >:( When I was in Seattle in mid-1990s, I remember a Grammy preview and Janet was up for something, probably "Scream," and they made what I thought was a strange comment - that Janet Jackson is just one single away from her career stalling. I thought it was so strange because at that point everything from WHYDFML to Runaway (except for TPP had hit the Top 10!). Well GTIG and I suppose TFP (though I don't know if it was promoted in US), derailed things quickly, despite the rush release of TA. Things just weren't the same - especially on Pop radio.

Janet's song Got Til It's Gone is still a great song. Her downfall happened due to the SuperBowl, not poorly performed singles.

Janet's song Got Til It's Gone is still a great song. Her downfall happened due to the SuperBowl, not poorly performed singles. Her songs were underperforming before that though. The Superbowl incident is probably the stupidest thing to happen in pop culture in the last 20 years. Clarification: the RESPONSE to it is the stupidest thing.

While Janet's performance on pop radio was more sporadic after the 10 year mark, and a harsher come down compared to let's say Madonna's 2nd decade on CHR, it's a complete lie to talk about her post-96 performance prior to the SB as a downfall. Her public image for the most part was strong (impressive compared to what was brought against her brother), it was just that she released less crossover friendly material. And pretty much all the crossover friendly stuff she did put out did cross over (her biggest International hit was also in 1998). Got 'Til It's Gone, I Get Lonely, and Son Of A Gun don't sound like crossovers.

GTIG is Janet's best song in my opinion.
But I dot get how anyone could think 96/97 was her "downfall." Over the next 5 years she had Together Again, I Get Lonely, All For You, Someone to Call My Lover, Doesn't Really Matter...
