^ Besides, Adele, all the 3 million sellers were first-half-of-the-year hits. No WDYM, no Hotline Bling, no The Hills/CFMF.

I don't think WFH will peak top 3 I don't know why, but I'm shocked that it has held on this well and now has a great shot at #10. I don't see it going any higher though (well I could see it hitting #9, but no higher. #9 is the highest it will go, if it makes it to #9).

That's why Apple is having that 69 cent sale right now. I wonder if Apple is freaking out? But... The 2015 RIAA report says that even though digital & physical sales are down... streaming, physical sales and digital sales bring in the same amount of money.

It is up right now.

Sheesh, at this rate, the #1 song will be down to about 20k sales by December. Looks like Billboard might have to just eliminate salaes completely in the next year or two. That is a catastrophic decline since only last summer.

WFH won't go higher than #9? Its radio is picking up, and rhythmic seems to like it unlike Worth It. It's top 5-3 on iTunes, top 5 on Spotify, seems like it is getting decent YouTube streams. I can see it going top 5 at some point, even if for just a week.

Sales have always been part of the formula, even when they were practically zero (physical sales in the early noughties)

Sales have always been part of the formula, even when they were practically zero (physical sales in the early noughties) Also, the number one has been steady around 100-200k for a while now... In 2015, "Bad Blood" was the last multi-week "big" (above 200k) seller before sales dipped down to where they are now with a few exceptions: "Cheerleader" had a single week at 276k, all other weeks were below 200k "Drag Me Down" debuted with 349k "Locked Away" had a week below 100k at 91k. The only week in 2015 to be below 100k. "What Do You Mean?" debuted with 337k, all other weeks below 200k "Hello" debuted with 1.112m, and sold over 200k for an additional 4 weeks. So far, in 2016: "Hello" was the #1 during the Christmas Rush with 327k. "PILLOWTALK" debuted with 267k. "Piece by Piece" sold 210k after the American Idol performance. Other than those 12 weeks, the number one between the July 4th, 2015 and April 9th, 2016 chart has hovered between 100-200k. Certainly a decline from the beginning of 2015, but it isn't like sales are continuing to drastically decline. They saw a decline due to streaming starting around 2013, and in 2015 streaming saw a huge uptick, digital sales saw a nice decline. The decline has since plateaued.

It's sad that My House only peaks at #4. Another strong #4 like Wake Me Up!, Say Something, Am I Wrong and Shut Up and Dance.
Also, did Work just peak on airplay? I can see 7 Years dethroning Work few weeks later. (NO might not catch up 7 Years in Streaming and Airplay.)

It's funny how 1.29 is 'too high' when I would gladly pay $3.49 or more for a CD single if they were available. But then again, CDs were priced between 16.99 - 19.99. What is surprising about this .69 sale is the broad presence on the Top 100, which I still think is partly due to the lower sales threshold. It's not like it's the first time or that others don't do it. Heck, GooglePlay has 7 Years for .49 after pricing Stressed Out that way for about a month.

Billboard still counts physical single sales up to this day even if the sales are miniscule, they would not get rid of digital sales

And didn't Billboard just adjusted the formula to give sales more points? I use and like Spotify but I think the iTunes audience is still large enough to keep digital sales still relevant

Actually, if you look at overall digital single sales numbers, that is not the case. You're right that starting in 2013 they saw a few percent decline and the rate went to over 10% last year, but 2016 year to date it has plummeted to over 20% (the specific numbers are in Billboard's Market Watch piece; I had trouble finding the one for this week). They seem to be following the trajectory of physical singles in the late 90s/early 2000s, and could very well be minuscule in another few years. Not saying they shouldn't count though, even if 5 copies of the number one song are sold, those five sales should count.

I already mentioned how last year they started to plummet in the summer, but stabilized in the fall/winter. If they stabilized, they're not going up or down by large amounts comparatively month to month, which they haven't been since July/August. Now that was less than a year ago. One year ago, however, was before the plummet. That will cause the year to date to appear greater than it should be. Mark my words, August 2016-July 2017's digital sales will not be too different from August 2015-July 2016.

Yup. Streaming has overcome digital single sales. That's why Apple is having that 69 cent sale right now. I wonder if Apple is freaking out? I've seen it cited multiple times in the Country forum that the recent plunge in digital sales can be tied directly to Apple's own streaming service, due to it's specifically past that point that the sales marks for the biggest Country hits started really dropping. Surely if it's the case there, it's the case everywhere? So IF in fact they are freaking out right now, then, well, it's courtesy of the monster of their own making. But note how I emphasize IF they are in fact freaking out...

The best selling song of the year in April is around the same as Hello's debut week??? I realized sales were s**t, but this is crazy. Did anything even go 3x Platinum last year? 5 songs sold 3 million copies in 2015. TOP 10 SELLING DIGITAL SONGS OF 2015 IN U.S. 1 Mark Ronson featuring Bruno Mars, "Uptown Funk!" 5,529,000 2 Ed Sheeran, "Thinking Out Loud" 3,976,000 3 Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth, "See You Again" 3,801,000 4 Adele, "Hello" 3,712,000 5 Maroon 5, "Sugar" 3,343,000 6 Walk the Moon, "Shut Up and Dance" 2,986,000 7 Fetty Wap, "Trap Queen" 2,730,000 8 OMI, "Cheerleader" 2,698,000 9 The Weekend, "The Hills" 2,586,000 10 Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar, "Bad Blood" 2,580,000 WALK THE MOON were so close! :( presumably SUAD had sold at least 14k in 2014 and had 3M lifetime sales by the end of 2015 though, right? I'm thinking The Hills has passed 3M by now (surely it sold 414k in 2016) What about Trap Queen? Has it sold 3M by now? Does anyone know?
