Now that Closer is all but confirmed for number 1, how many weeks is it getting? I'm going with 3 consecutive and 6 total.

Happy for Closer.
It'll probably be #1 for a good month or so.

Don't get Closer's attraction at all! Is it even catchy? Did it get a lot of promo?

Why are the leading top 10 predictions for this week's chart not factoring in Treat You Better? It's gaining significantly in airplay, plus it more than doubles its sales this week (~30k - ~65k).

Why are the leading top 10 predictions for this week's chart not factoring in Treat You Better? It's gaining significantly in airplay, plus it more than doubles its sales this week (~30k - ~65k). Because it still doesn't have sufficient points to crack Top-10. Sales - 60k = 6,700 Airplay - 65M = 6,500 Streaming - 10M = 8,200 Total Points will be 21-22k, while a song will need ~24k to crack Top-10 this week. But it does have a decent shot at entering Top-10 next week.

I think Cold Water is going to reduce the amount of time Closer spends @ #1. I'm predicting 3-5 weeks.

Love Closer so I'm happy it's going #1.
Cold Water might eventually challenge it but Closer is gaining faster on airplay so I don't think it's a sure thing yet. Both have yet to debut their videos as well.

I'm banking on "Closer" at the top for 4-5 weeks with "Cold Water" interrupting its run with two weeks at the top. It all depends on if bruno or any other mega star releases a single, if they release it correctly, their is no way closer remains at the top, or if the vma's have a serious chart impact.

Closer should have a nice 4 week run. Lady Gaga is set to release her new single in mid September which could block Cold Water from the top spot much like Cheap Thrills/Cold Water did to TIWYCF.

Billboard Top 10 from 35, 30, 25, and 20 years ago: September 7, 199101 01 (Everything I Do) I Do It For You - Bryan Adams (7th and final week at #1)"(Everything I Do) I Do It For You" was the first song to spend more than 6 weeks at #1 since "Every Breath You Take" by The Police in 1983. I remember when this happened. It was the first time since I had started watching the charts that a song had gotten as many as 7 weeks at number one. It seemed like such a huge deal at the time, but by the end of 1992 it wouldn't be so special anymore.

I love Bruno Mars but not sure his next single is a lock #1 as well. Streaming has changed the chart game so much I wouldn't be so sure. Uptown Funk was a streaming beast. Hell, even when I was doing the youtube charts this year, it would regularly pop up in the top 20. I'm pretty sure streaming wouldn't be a problem for Bruno. Besides, the top 10 isn't exactly strong right now, so if the song isn't a complete turd I can easily see him getting that #1 debut. Bruno's fans have been waiting patiently for that new album. He's probably one of the few people who could give Adele somewhat of a challenge points-wise (or at least an 80k debut week, maybe).

I love Bruno Mars but not sure his next single is a lock #1 as well. Streaming has changed the chart game so much If zayn malik manages to do it, he could also do it. It all depends on the releasing stratagy Zayn and Bruno are two completely different situations. Zayn's first single launched to #1 because he left the biggest boy band in 15 years to make his own music. It was highly anticipated given his fandom. Like what was said earlier on this thread, Bruno doesn't necessarily have a fan base where he will have these huge first weeks. I don't think Bruno will have a debut #1 unless the competition is weak and the song is as instant as Uptown Funk was. But it will definitely climb to the top 5 in a quickly manner and stay there for a while.

Bruno is clearly a lock for #1, just like Katy Perry was guaranteed to debut at #1 with Rise. I mean, guaranteed to debut and climb to #1 with Rise. I mean... wait...
Nobody is a lock for anything.

Neither Bruno or Gaga are a lock for #1. No one ever is. Is it likely Bruno will eventually get there? Sure, given his past history, he definitely could, but it's not for certain. Gaga is even less so.
I do think, however, it's absurd to think Bruno will have trouble streaming wise. Unless the song is a surprise boring mess that was never intended for the album (a la "Rise"), his streaming should be fine. Streaming may not have been as huge back in his last era as it is now, but Bruno was killing it streaming wise. His totals on Spotify are high for an album era of that time. Gaga, however, is questionable. The Fame/Born This Way Gaga definitely would have no problem in streaming (nor did they given the massive YouTube views), but who knows about post-ARTPOP.

It's hard to say how Katy, Gaga, or Bruno will do with streaming these days. Streaming has become massive since the start of each of their previous eras. The last time any of them released a single from their past albums was 2013/2014 where streams were only a fraction of what they are now. None of these artists have actually started off an album era where streaming is this massive so it will be interesting to see how all three of them will do in their upcoming eras and if they can join the Rihanna, Drake, Bieber streaming club.

I must admit, I went through a bit of a chart slump this summer and I actually feel it was the chart predictions. People have gotten so good at getting exact positions, every time I watched the Periscope, I usually wasn't that surprised. So recently I've just ignored all predictions and it has returned to its original level of interesting for me
