Who could have foreseen all this when "#SELFIE" was in the top twenty? Wow, congratulations to the Chainsmokers. They've had an amazing year so far. Yeah kinda funny that top 2 spots on Billboard are currently occupied by people who were known only for "#SELFIE" (Chainsmokers) and "Bubble butt" (Major Lazer) just two years ago |

Anyways, The Chainsmokers now opened a path for EDM artist proving that they can get to #1.

Chainsmokers are a good example of how the culture here of labeling everyone a one hit wonder until proven otherwise is at best inaccurate and more or less a game.
Sometimes it takes a gimmicky song to get name recognition before the real sound of the artist can catch on.

Major Lazer were never "only" known for Bubble Butt. Before that they were known for Pon De Floor and Watch Out For This.
That's kind of like you saying that Skrillex is only known for Where Are U Now or that Lana Del Rey is only known for Summertime Sadness. You'd be completely ignoring songs that everybody knows like Video Games and Bangarang... They have other famous songs from before those even if they didn't get radio airplay and get in the chats.

Audience impressions are ALWAYS in a state of flux, I wouldn't rush to panic stations just because a song may have a bad gain or even a loss on any given day. The day-to-day audience changes on their own lack context (ie. on a specific format such as POP, spins could be up across all stations but a major station could have dropped its airplay resulting in an audience loss despite the gain in airplay).

But it will be sad to not have you doing the predictions. Anyways, I mostly did well with predicting because of your posts. Your airplay numbers are always more accurate than mine. I had Needed Me at like 90m AI last week when you had it at 80M, and yours was more accurate, lol. And you always have the better streaming numbers. I underestimated Needed Me's streaming by like .5M lol. Hopefully I can eventually get as good as you on this predicting stuff. Or maybe georgetherunner314 can do the Saturday prediction posts in here. I think he's better than me at this also. |

RIP Ravi's amazing predictions :(
It looks like one of three scenarios will happen in the coming weeks:
1. "Cold Water" has a video released at least a week before "Closer" does, in which case CW probably gets that time at #1 and "Heathens" peaks at #3 for many weeks behind the two songs (effectively this year's "Some Nights")
2. The "Closer" video comes out around the same time as or before the one for CW comes out, but the CW video comes out before "Heathens" passes it, in which case CW peaks at #2 for many weeks behind "Closer", and "Heathens" still peaks at #3 for a long time behind those two songs (effectively a "One More Night"/"Gangnam Style"/"Some Nights" scenario which happened in late summer/early-to-mid fall as well four years ago)
3. "Heathens" passes "Cold Water" before the latter's video comes out, in which case both songs will peak at #2 behind "Closer" (unless the video for "Closer" is still not out by that time, in which case either of the songs could dethrone it, but I don't see that happening)
