24K Magic is too weak on streaming, Starboy is too weak on radio & sales to challenge Closer yet, which still isn't losing on radio yet. only thing looking like a threat is Black Beatles for rn.

The only reason why Closer is so hated now is because it's been number one forever. It if had peaked at #8, the concluding narrative would have been that it didn't do better. Happens with every lengthy number one. For me, Closer is the best double digit number one in years. I'm just tired of having #1 songs that last for so long. The charts were so much more interesting when songs only lasted for 3-4 weeks at a time.

As a chart fan, I'd love to see Closer break the record. Can't really blame Billboard for it though. This is how people listen to music.

The only reason why Closer is so hated now is because it's been number one forever. Completely agree. For the first 5 or so weeks of its run, I loved it. Now I still like it but I'm pretty sick of it. That's why I'm happy Cheap Thrills didn't spend longer than a month at #1. I never liked it, but when it outcharted don't let me down(a great song) i started to hate it, now that it is in it's doubke digits numer one i loath it, so much it will prob outchart one dance on my worst list.

The only reason why Closer is so hated now is because it's been number one forever. I wouldn't say that's necessarily true. Look at some of the things that certain YouTube critics like Spectrum Pulse and TheDoubleAgent have had to say about it as soon as it first appeared. :/ The former even reiterated the bad about the song when he just reviewed their EP, Collage. On their(mark, kevin, josh and ethan) podcast(talking the charts) they talked about how they hated closer.

I didn't see the podcast, but Mark basically said everything he needed to when it debuted on Billboard Breakdown, and that was well before the Collage review...and Ethan clearly does not endorse the song at all either.

^ I am too. For me it's not really about whether I personally love a song or not, which seems to be the case with many here. I just like seeing chart records broken by whatever is able to break them. It keeps it interesting. I think it's impossible for my taste to always match up with the majority who send songs to the top of the charts, so I don't bother fighting it. If a song is #1 for 1, 5, 10, 16 weeks - it deserves it, even if I don't like it. Certain songs do not, work and one dance seemed like they were beta versions and closer has terrible production and who thought that taggert could sing? So while most songs do not deserve it, some do.

Black Beatles is increasing the gap on both Spotify and iTunes. It has Closer down to below 50% on iTunes (and #2 24K Magic down to 60%). 350,000 streams ahead of Closer on Spotify. 550,000 streams ahead on YouTube.
Damn. It has a lot of ground to cover in airplay, but it's going to put up a hell of a fight soon.

tbh I'd like for "closer" to at least get 15 weeks but I also like "starboy", "24k magic", and "black beatles" so if any of them go to #1 before that then I don't mind lmao

I can't believe that Black Beatles is gonna be a serious contender for the next #1. Still hoping Starboy can get a week at #1 though.

You know what? I may have said before, but I'll give Closer this: at least the duo sound like they actually care about the music they're making, even if they are trying to milk the song out as much as humanly possible. Drake, on the other hand, bans most of his stuff from YouTube because...whatever reason, and keeps making new stuff even though I don't know anyone who doesn't think he needs to chill out already.
And I'm not gonna say that a song doesn't deserve to break a record because I personally don't like it, but when a song is getting slammed by most critics before it even became a smash, then the idea of it reaching that point is not one I'm going to support.

It looks like sales will easily clear 100k unless the bottom drops out fast. The streaming total will be tougher, but I don't know what all is counting for the song in terms of the mannequin challenge and so forth.

"Closer" cleared 80k last week, and "BB" is doubling the sales of "Closer" right now. Even if that difference shrinks some, "BB" should be able to sell at least 120k, no? And in actuality, its lead keeps increasing so sales could be even higher.
