I really hope she releases new music this year. I'm guessing she will wait until she announces a tour, but damn that could be awhile.

Tossing out "Luv I Luv" as a one-off sounds like a good idea. Especially if they time it with the streaming premier of the documentary.
Heck, "Made For Now" made the Hot 100 without an imminent album.

Did they stop uploading videos to her YT? They were doing a cool job with Nasty, LWA, LWDWY and The Knowledge.

Can someone remind me why “Luv” and “With U” didnt get videos? LUV = Island Def Jam. They had 3 songs in rotation at radio. Feedback was sent to all formats, LUV to Urban and UAC and Rock With U to Pop and Rhythmic. Janet wanted LUV as a second single, the label wanted RWU. Feedback did OK, LUV got some Urban love and RWU completely bombed. I assume the label wasn't happy with the sales of the album and Janet was unhappy with the way things were turning out and a video never happened. With U = Virgin and Capital merged around the time that "With U" was sent to radio. 20 Y.O. was also the final album in her contract with Virgin. Several artists' eras were affected by this. This wasn't the first time an album era of Janet's was affected by a merger, EMI and Virgin merged in late 2001 and that's one of MANY reasons why we didn't get more singles from AFY.

I haven't heard this song in a few years, I forgot how great and enjoyable it was. This album is so legendary, it deserves the same level of respect TVR gets. It honestly enrages me reading all the dismissive reviews from around that time from the white bigot critics. The way the album incorporated such a wide variety of elements but still maintained sonic cohesion really made it the first of its kind. You can clearly hear its influence in Beyonce's last two solo projects.

I played the entire janet. album last weekend in full. Every song brings me back to to that era. “New Agenda” was ahead of its time.

Tbh I don’t trust anyone that grew up in the 90s who doesn’t have janet in their collection.

janet. is the first era that I experienced where the Internet was available. It was rudimentary, mostly email but it was the beginning of a community that until this day I think it exists.

jeng- Top Album Sales does not incorporate track sales. Thus, RN probably sold a little more physical albums; total sales were probably between 1,600-2.000.

www.billboard.com/pro/janet-jackson-documentary-streaming-songs-chart/Janet Jackson Returns to the Charts, Streams Soar 109% After Documentary SeriesBY TREVOR ANDERSON 2/10/22 The icon's new documentary series yields big gains, with five songs returning to the digital sales list. Janet Jackson’s new documentary series leads to significant gains for the legend’s catalog and the return of some of her best-known classics to Billboard’s sales charts. The four-part series, titled Janet Jackson., premiered on A&E and Lifetime in a two-night event on Jan. 28 and 29. The documentary, which spans the superstar’s life, from her earliest years through her 2019 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, was the channel’s most-watched non-fiction program since Surviving R. Kelly in 2019. The first episode registered 2.8 million people on live TV, and another 1.2 million in the next few days either digitally or on demand, according to Nielsen, with parts two through four drawing 4.3 million, 3.7 million and 3.8 million viewers, respectively. Attention surrounding the series led listeners to Jackson’s catalog on music services, with activity up across the board. The hitmaker’s songs collectively earned 10.6 million official on-demand U.S. streams in the week ending Feb. 3, according to MRC Data, up 109% from the week ending Jan. 27. Jackson’s biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit, “That’s The Way Love Goes,” was the leader of the pack, with 778,000 U.S. official on-demand streams (a 59% increase). 2001’s “All for You” came in second, with a 63% weekly increase to 581,000 clicks. Other Jackson classics – 1986’s “Control” (575,000 and up 277%) “Any Time, Any Place” (558,000 for a 39% boost) and “Nasty” (482,000 to rocket 174%) rounded out the top five. Likewise, “That’s The Way Love Goes” won as Jackson’s top seller for the week, with 1,300 downloads. The sum prompts the track’s No. 5 debut on the R&B Digital Song Sales chart. “All For You” secured second place, with 1,100 downloads and a No. 10 chart entrance. Three more of the superstar’s singles make the 15-position list, with each selling 1,000 copies after rounding: “Rhythm Nation” at No. 11 “Escapade” at No. 13 (1,000) and “Love Will Never Do (Without You)” in the anchor slot. Flipping to albums, Jackson releases combine for 17,000 equivalent album units in the week ending Feb. 3, up 282%. Of her studio releases, 1989’s Janet Jackson’s Rhythm Nation 1814 proved the champ, with 4,000 equivalent album units.

Things I appreciate about Janet:
Literally EVERYTHING! Her super relatable personality, looking up to her as my inspiration as a kid, her epic videos, and iconic dance moves. If her father never pushed her to do music, we would have never gotten the masterpieces like Control, RN, and The Velvet Rope! I'm very grateful for that!!! 😊

Countless artists would not be who they are (or possibly even exist) had they not been standing on Ms. Jackson’s shoulders. The sheer impact she had on music from Control through The Velvet Rope alone - from the commercial success to the critical acclaim to the sonic innovation to the literal breaking of records and making of history - is worthy of eternal reverence!!

I love Janet and her lyrics but my personal favorite (simply because it’s me in a sentence) is You might think I’m crazy but I’m serious. Of course it had to be one of the few songs in her catalogs she didn’t write. Let’s not even talk about her music videos.

I appreciate Janet because she was my introduction to music. The first CD I bought was DOAD. I wore it OUT. The fact that it primarily drew from hits spanning only two albums is insane. It still sounds state of the art today. Her musicality and the care and thought she generally invests in her projects is second to none. I also appreciate Janet for not giving up on her career after the Super Bowl, when so many people abandoned her.
I played Damita Jo in full last night and gave it a reevaluation - I think my opinion of it was seriously tainted by how challenging it was to be a fan that era. With time and distance, it's a pretty strong album; in fact, in many ways, it's better than AFY. It was rare then - a little less rare now - to find such a prominent and mainstream work of erotica from a Black woman. Janet got a lot of flack in the early 2000's for the more sexual aspects of her catalogue, but that was very much an important aspect of her life that she explored through her music. I would argue she was very much a trendsetter and ahead of her time. Beyonce's self-titled and songs like WAP would not exist without the likes of janet. and Damita Jo.
Janet's monthly Spotify listeners have increased 10% since the documentary first aired, and I am grateful that others may be discovering or rediscovering her outstanding discography.

You just made me start listening to Damita Jo right now while working. Haven't in a LONG time! Let's see how it goes. I can't hardly remember songs from it. btw, looking at the cover... I can't recall if that cover had already been shown before the Super Bowl. The album came out 2 months after the controversial incident.

If I could get access to Janet's vault, I'd want to hear everything she recorded for Damita Jo.
It took so long to record, I'm sure there's some bangers she's hiding from us!
My overly optimistic self is looking forward to having "Could This Be Love" on streaming one day and I'll never give up hope!

The leaked version of Damita Jo had Could This Be Love. I was really disappointed when it was not included in the final released version. The Tracks in the Japanesse version are very good, especially Put Your Hands On. I was thinking yesterday as I started playing Damita Jo… Janet was one of the precursors of the under 3 minutes songs that are so popular nowdays. I didn’t like it back then that the 3 first songs in the album were so short.
