MG played K102's Fan Jam a few years at what I told was a very reduced fee, as they were the first station to play Hillbilly Shoes, and they filmed it there. |

What in the heck is wrong with "Back When I Knew It All"? Nothing wrong with it per se, but I find it to be pretty generic and run-of-the mill musically. Lyrically it's fantastic though. Another problem is that MG's body of work is so stellar that this one simply cannot compete IMO. I listen to it when playing the album, but never seek it out. The biggest thing wrong with the instrumentation is that dreadful harmonica. I despise that instrument 99% of the time. |

I'm honestly a little surprised that "Better Me" is still going. I love the song, but I truest thought it'd be out earlier since it's not part of the prime MG discography, if you will.

I am definitely surprised to see at least a couple of these songs in the top 10. "Better Me", for example, has not been out very long, nor was it a big enough hit to have reached a legendary status among the general country music community. Realistically, the vast majority of casual country music listeners don't even know it exists. I am going to assume that the only reason it made the top 10 here is because of Troy's death making its release feel more powerful right around the time people started working on this rankdown. Also, "Hillbilly Shoes" and "Lonely And Gone" feel so out of place on this list. I have never heard either of them on the radio even once before. I know that radio play doesn't equal quality, but I do feel like songs like "She Don't Tell Me To" and "Some People Change" had a much bigger impact on their career overall (and are also better songs...).

Also one more fun fact... there was ONE POINT separating "Back When I Knew It All" from the song that placed #10.... so those of you that wanted it in the top 10, well you almost got your wish lol.
The same thing happened with the #6 vs the #5, but we'll get to that later.

I'm happy with the Top 10 for the most part. "She Couldn't Change Me" I wish wasn't there but other than that song I'm happy.
Just saying right now that "Speed" and "Lonely and Gone" better be Top 5 or those who ranked them low will have some explaining to do. Easily my two favorites from them.
Really glad to see "Better Me" make it this far.

Since this is Pulse lol, I had my doubts... but thankfully there are enough fans of MG and their signature sound that participated in this to put this song in the top 10, which is definitely where it belongs.
