That trailer isn't very compelling to me. I'm sure it will get some Golden Globes nods because it's a musical with big names, but it will need to be better than it looks to get any major award season traction.

If she wants that Oscar, she'll have to top this:

It just seems like this story is overplayed. That trailer doesn't make me want to run to the theater. We shall see.

I'm more interested in the soundtrack tbh. But I hope her acting performance is at least so as to extend the goodwill and the buildup of her eventual legacy.

I liked the beginning of the trailer but when she starts singing towards the end it gave me goosebumps. Loved it. She looks so pretty too.

Whether Gaga is in it or not, do we really need a 4th version of this film / story? I am tired of the remakes. Hollywood is just running out of ideas.

Has the average person actually seen the first 3? Wasn't the last one like 40 years ago.

Exactly my thinking. I'm 28 and myself and the majority of my generation have never seen the last three. Similar to how a lot of my generation doesn't remember Madonna's hits.

mello, heck Babra has won an Oscar for Funny Girl and Cher has won an Oscar for Moonstruck. Thanks for the new information. I was talking about distraction and believability for me. I specifically said "Some are better actors than others..." It clearly can work. This applies more to pop stars who got their start since I've been alive. Cher and Babs were both acting and singing long before I was born so I don't associate either with being pop stars first. But even still, their larger than life personas can be distracting to me, regardless of how well it may work overall or for others. When it works, it works, so... we'll see! FWIW - An Oscar win is quite and achievement and signifies that a performance was highly regarded by many, but it can also be politics at work, etc, and doesn't mean everyone agrees or enjoyed the performance.

Yeah not understanding all the hoopla regarding the trailer. I think people expected this to be a disaster. Wasn't it suppose to go to Will Smith and Jennifer Lopez, then Clint Eastwood and Beyonce, then Bradley replaced Clint, then Bey dropped out. And it's fairly cheesy story. But looking at the trailer, it looks beautifully shot and very oscar baity.

I have heard pretty legitimate buzz and that the studio is pleased with results and early reviews. I doubt Gaga herself will get nominated for anything, but I expected this to be like...a huge borderline Glitter embarrassment so it looks like we will avoid that It would be nice to see it do pretty well at box office and grab some nominations in its specific categories. I am still more excited about her new real cd though.

So it’s more about you than the singers-turned-actors. Though I know what you mean except it applies to any major star. If I know who they are as a celebrity beyond just their name, I find it hard to see them as their character unless they’re REALLY good.

I hope GaGa can do the role justice.
That Judy Garland scene posted above brings me to tears every time, especially having lived through something similar myself.

Which is even more disheartening because "Music," "Don't Tell Me," "Die Another Day," "Hung Up," and "4 Minutes" were all massive hits while we were in middle school/high school/college-aged.

ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY Oscars 2019: Lady Gaga, Timothée Chalamet, and other contenders on the horizon JOEY NOLFI•@joeynolfi AND PIYA SINHA-ROYPOSTED ON JUNE 22, 2018 AT 6:10PM EDT ew.com/awards/2019-oscar-predictions/amp/?xid=amprecirc1Which movies should be on your Oscar radar? With just over eight months to go until Oscar night, there's plenty to look forward to as the awards race heats up with major contenders set to drop highly anticipated projects in the stretch ahead. From works by Lady Gaga and Barry Jenkins to Viola Davis, Rami Malek, Steve McQueen, and Nicole Kidman, here are 14 likely above-the-line Oscar contenders to look out for between now and the end of the year. A Star Is Born (dir. Bradley Cooper) Release date: Oct. 5, 2018 Distributor: Warner Bros. Categories to look out for: Best Picture, Best Director (Bradley Cooper), Best Actress (Lady Gaga), Best Actor (Bradley Cooper), Best Cinematography, Best Original Song, Best Sound Mixing Teaming with lead actress Lady Gaga and a powerful industry legacy (this marks the fourth adaptation of the age-old Hollywood romance about a budding ingénue’s passionate bond with an experienced performer) could prove to be a winning combination for first-time director Bradley Cooper. With several acting nominations to his credit, Cooper makes the jump behind the camera with a score of Oscar-verified talent in tow: Cooper and Gaga are prior nominees, as are cinematographer Matthew Libatique and sound designer Steve Morrow — meaning the film is primed to rack up points with the Academy’s craft branches, too. A Star Is Born stands to flex real muscle, however, with the all-important precursor guilds like SAG and the DGA, both made up of entertainers who love recognizing stories about their industry, produced within their industry (Birdman, Chicago, and The Artist, anyone?). That sounds like the framework for an awards season success story written in the stars to us.

www.papermag.com/sophie-confirms-lady-gaga-collab-2584857276.htmlSOPHIE Confirms Lady Gaga CollabJasmine Ting 13h Trans pop star and producer extraordinaire SOPHIE has worked with legends like Madonna, as well as young artists like Charli XCX and Vince Staples. Rumors have been circulating that her next big project — since her debut album Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides and music video "It's Okay to Cry" — would be a collab with Lady Gaga. Today, she confirms that news. Instagram account @ladygaganewz posted a video of an encounter with SOPHIE, where they ask — behind gates — if she is indeed working with Lady Gaga on her upcoming album. The Scottish singer simply replies, "Yes." "I mean, whatever. I work on a lot of different things. If it comes out, that's cool. But you just never know," she continued. "But yeah, she's a cool person." In an interview with PAPER, SOPHIE said that she enjoys working with friends. "That's what I've always done: collaborate with friends because they are the people who understand. If you are a good friend you understand someone on a different level." Lady Gaga hasn't given comment, and no details have been made public regarding Mother Monster's new album. -- <3
