I’m hoping Breathin can make it. It’s very possible considering how weak the bottom half of the top 10 is (everything seems to be falling besides AIWFCIY).

This was discussed a bit in last week's thread. Aside from being very beloved and popular songs to begin with, streaming has made this kind of Hot 100 activity substantially more possible. Holiday songs are trackable and much more accessible now without having to purchase them, and more and more people are streaming with each passing year. For many years (decades), people would rely on radio for holiday music, or their own collection of CDs and/or mp3s - the latter of which obviously plays weren't tracked. Now we have massive amounts of streams pouring in, all being counted towards the charts. That combined with a few rule changes over the years allowing older songs to chart year after year. I suspect there will be a plateau in the coming years, but, for now we're seeing holiday songs increase in peak right along with streaming growth. This is all true to an extent, but the streaming positions for holiday songs are higher than ever so they do seem to be more popular this year than the past few years. Along with streaming's growth in numbers, its demographics are also expanding/diversifying. The age of the average streamer is ticking upward with each passing year, which, to me, makes it logical that holiday music would have a stronger presence on the streaming charts because of it. The holiday playlists on platforms like Spotify are undoubtedly very popular with holiday parties and businesses/workplaces - often replacing radio or "owned" music plays in these scenarios, thus increasing streams and chart power of holiday songs - specifically in relation to current hits.

Crazy if Ariana TUN blocks Mariah to reach #1 and Mariah is the reason for a #11 peak for Breathin. (I know the chances of Mariah being #1 is low, but just sayin)

Imagine if AIWFCIY hits #1 and then barely makes the 2019 YE. That would honestly make the charts 10x better

I still don't understand posters here who are obsessed with the year-end charts. I've been following the Hot 100 for 30+ years. I rarely remember any of the year-end Top 10s. Link to Wikpedia that lists the year-end Hot 100 charts: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End

Apparently "We Don't Talk Anymore" passed 2 billion views, one of less than 30 videos to do so. Huh? I don't recall it being that huge of a hit in any particular country.

Yeah the 2019 year end charts discussion while the 2018 charts just came out is puzzling but - oh well that is where the interest is.
Me personally, I am a huge fan of year end charts too but usually only at year end

Im a huge fan of the worldwide year end charts. I dont take the Billboard one too seriously considering it only counts for the US. Worldwide charts reflect the actual popularity of the song on a Worldwide scale.

New Kodak album Friday. Three album bomb weeks in a row seems imminent. 21 Savage dropping the following week and he has J. Cole, Post, Gambino, Offset and Lil Baby features. So make that 4 weeks in a row.

I never thought I'd say this but I prefer a 21 Savage album bomb than a Kodak Black album bomb.

MoshPit by Kodak Black featuring Juice WRLD was just released. Added #1 on RapCaviar already and will likely make a major impact on the charts next week.

It seems two major components for top 10 debuts (Imagine; MoshPit for next week; 12/29 chart).

Sunflower is doing picking up really well on sales and airplay and still is strong and streaming. Should return to the top 10 within the next few weeks.

This argument doesn't hold any merit. You're forgetting that Hello's first 3 weeks at #1 were during the 2015 chart year, for which it came in at #35. The tabulation of the year-end charts are definitely not perfect nor strongly consistent, but it's silly to say they're arbitrary and irrelevant. They do use objective chart points accumulated during the year based on actual sales, airplay, and streaming. Yes, some may not be interested at all in the year-end charts, some are obsessed with it down to a t, different strokes for different folks; I've only been following the Hot 100 for about 15 years, but can indeed remember almost all the year-end top 10s in that time. I'm not the most obsessive year-end follower, but to me it does give an overall better idea of how big of a hit a song was that a week-by-week ranking can't always indicate. For instance, in 2016 a two-week #1, Love Yourself, was #1 for the year, while this year, another two-week #1, This Is America, was only #51, so that gives me a clear indication that Love Yourself was in all probability a much bigger hit.

I think the point made was that people often use yearend charts as a be all end all for how big a hit was, failing to acknowledge that it’s simply a snapshot of a longer period of time than a weekly chart is.

Imagine its views if Selena was actually in the video.

Agreed. I'd say the one thing that YE charts do is act as a historical snapshot of a year in popular music for future generations to reference. Your average Joe probably isn't going to look at all the weekly charts retrospectively, he's going to google "hits of 1993" and see the YE chart on Wikipedia. If a song isn't listed, it will probably get overlooked unless he chooses to dig deeper. This is why I understand the interest in them and the importance (to some who watch closely) to have certain songs make it in, not be caught in-between years, etc.
