“Mood Ring” is INCREDIBLE. I’m obsessed with every single thing about that song.

Great song. Reminds me of something...like something I would hear from some 90s/2000s songstress but I can't put my finger on who lol.

I kinda reminds me of „I Love You Always Forever“ from Donna Lewis. That said, I didn’t really enjoy any of the songs so far, which is kinda disappointing because I’m still so in love with her first 2 albums.

This is what I hear, more so from around 1:15 onwards. And yeah, just generally late 90s/early 00s pop.

Man I miss her darker grittier stuff. Her new sound is too sheryl crow hippie dippie vibes for me. I realize artists should be given room to evolve and experiment with their sound, but this for her in this genre it just comes off as amateurish and underwhelming.

Definitely sounds like it could’ve been an In This Skin b-side.

I used Amazon points to buy this and like Solar Power the song so anything else is a bonus. Nothing can top Melodrama.

I'm not connecting to the new songs. They are cute and all but she set the bar HIGH with her first 2 albums.

I guess I'm the only person who's been into all 3 songs so far lol I enjoy all three of them and have them in pretty consistent rotation. It's not what we were expecting (probably for the worst), but the songs are not bad at all. I love 'Mood Ring' the most. I wasn't expecting anything to ever top Melodrama. It's probably up there near the top as my favourite album of the 2010s (Carly Rae Jepsen's E-MO-TION is probably neck and neck with it, and for personal reasons Taylor's Lover.)

Solar Power really snuck up on me to become a song I’ve really kept coming back to. Very catchy and calming. Very curious to listen to the album.

Yikes, not what I would have expected. Reserving judgment until I listen, of course.

I also agree with one of the previous comments about the song sounding like something by Natalie Imbruglia.

One minute into track one and I’m already in shambles.
EDIT: more thoughts to come…but holy f**k. this album is spectacular.

It's interesting for sure. It definitely takes the conclusion sentiments of the the previous album and runs full speed ahead with them. I'm ultimately unsure about where I will end up on this one but it certainly feels like it's in its own lane
immediate standouts to me are (especially the first 2): "Stoned at the Nail Salon" "Big Star" "Secrets From a Girl" "Dominoes"

On my first listen now.
The ending to SFAG(WSIA)? Ugh, now I want a proper feature.
Edit: Just finished it. Standouts after the first listen:
The Path Stoned at the Nail Salon Fallen Fruit Secrets from a Girl (Who's Seen It All) Mood Ring
They should really push Mood Ring hard. It's the only song on the album I can see making some noise on the charts.
As for the album, Pure Heroine and Melodrama are better, but I still really like this one. The whole vibe is definitely late 90's/early 00's singer-songwriter. I like the overall theme and the lyrics are good, a little bit clunky at times but still on brand. The Path and Fallen Fruit are the two I feel are closest to her previous work production wise. I'm sure the production being more stripped down -and more guitar-driven at times- this time around was a conscious choice between her and Jack, but I miss the complexity of Melodrama's composition.

in my personal opinion the best compositions here are probably better than the best arrangements on melodrama (but the more organic sound was always going to be more my speed)

Secrets from a Girl (Who's Seen It All) Mood Ring The Path Fallen Fruit Solar Power Big Star Stones at the Nail Salon
The music sounds incredibly light, but you get the same old sensitive, sensible, satirical Lorde perspectives from start to finish in the lyrics. She's so unbothered, lol. Let the critics figure out.

I mean, after a few listens, it’s strong. It’s definitely weird. If one thing is clear, although she may have a hard time delivering a hook on this album, lyrically, she’s at the top of her game.

I like the vibe of the album and I like the change in sound. Solid production throughout, lyrically strong and I love how she layered her vocals on so many of these songs. That being said, melodically and structurally this album is a mess. So many of these songs just kind of meander around without going anywhere or grabbing. So the album isn't a total loss, but I doubt I'll be revisiting this much.

The album is alright. I really enjoyed the title track, so I have been looking forward to this. It drags on a little bit but it's not bad material, just samey. I'll keep giving it listens because this seems like the type of album to be a grower.

First listen review of Solar Power.1. The Path (7.5/10) | Beautiful intro. The drums took me by surprise. Very rootsy. The second half of the song gives me "Mood Ring" vibes. 2. Solar Power (8.5/10) | I've grown to love the playful vocal against the muted down production. This sounds very good on the album. 3. California (8.5/10) | This could've been on HAIM's Women in Music Pt. III. Big compliment. A different vibe than the first two tracks, I'm on board. The chords on the chorus are brilliant. 4. Stoned at the Nail Salon (9/10) | I don't get why this got such mixed reviews here. It's a beautiful song. I'm picturing myself sitting on a quiet beach at 4PM, under the burning sun. 5. Fallen Fruit (8.5/10) | I've noticed pretty much everyone has listed this song as a standout. And I can see why. It has the vibes we were hoping to get for the rest of the album. Reminds me of the later Beatles sound. When that bass kicked in, I lost it. Sadly, we didn't get more of it. 6. Secrets from a Girl (Who's Seen It All) (9/10) | Oh this sounds like it could be the dream pop track of the album, like folklore has "august". My one complaint so far is that we've already got like three or four songs with the same beat. I don't mind this sunshine, singer/songwriter direction at all, but I was hoping for some more variety in tempo. But yeah, this is my favorite of the new tracks so far. Hello miss Robyn 7. The Man With The Axe (7.5/10) | Guys I think I found a Phoebe Bridgers bootleg from 2015? I love acoustic slow burners like this. It's probably a grower. 8. Dominoes (7/10) | Sorry for mentioning a different artist/song for each one of this, but this song reminded me of "Level Up" by Sigrid. Both have the same style and they're interlude-ish. Cute little vibe though I don't see any replay value. 9. Big Star (8.5/10) | Judging by the first few seconds, this has the potential to be my favorite. Please don't change the viiiibe. I really like the lyrics in this. 10. Leader of a New Regime (6/10) | I'm a sucker for a good interlude but this was pretty pointless. I'm only giving it extra points cause it flows into "Mood Ring". 11. Mood Ring (9.5/10) | Easily the most instant song on the album. After getting to this point of the album, I can totally see why she went for these singles. This deserves to be the song pushed along with the album. 12. Oceanic Feeling (8.5/10) | I don't know what to say about this. Her attempt at a new magnum opus? It definitely needs some more listens. I liked everything on it though. First listen rating: 81,6%

It's... there. The lyricism is there, but the melodies are lacking and the production is too light for my taste. I hope her next album is not years away.
