Much better? Errr...”Bon Appetit” reached #59 and that was following a top ten hit. As for this doing ‘better’ than ‘BA’ on chr...BA’s release was pulled. As soon as they saw it wasn’t taking off they cancelled it as a single and serviced “Swish Swish.” The only reason that “Small Talk” had a better chr run is that Capitol didn’t pull the plug on it, they just let it die a natural death.

When is the album scheduled to come out? They need to push it back after how “Small Talk” bombed.

She can say *whatever* she wants, but singles and (expensive) videos don’t get released without an album, tour or residency (especially after a costly lawsuit). This is cute we keep entertaining the idea her label is willing to just throw away money.

Maybe it’s exploratory right now but an end game must be in play. No label execs are just going to blow money away blindly on KP in 2019 without a 360 deal or a way to capitalize off *something*. Since she doesn’t have a 360 deal, they need to make their money back somewhere.

I just don’t believe she’s releasing ala carte music at her leisure. Something is off with what she’s saying in public and reality.

She's been switching back and forth on whether or not there's an album, which seems extremely fishy. At one point during the summer, she said that there was an album but she wasn't fully satisfied with it and wanted to keep working on it or something like that. Now that Small Talk bombed, she's back-tracking and saying that there's no album and has never been an album.

I definitely think there is an album which is waiting to be released. Never Really Over probably made Katy a bit more confident, but Small Talk brought her right back to where she was before NRO was released.

EDIT: A confirmed insider tweeted something along the lines of "KP - MITD", which some KatyKlowns are speculating to be a new Katy song called "Monster In The Dark". It could also be Kim Petras, but she doesn't have anything on her newly revealed tracklist with those initials. Maybe that's what's coming after Small Talk? It would be better than HIH, since that is 100% meant for the summer.

We have no clue what Harleys In Hawaii sounds like. Just because the video was filmed in Hawaii doesn’t mean it’s a summer song. There’s many places around the world (and the US) where it feels like summer every day.

I think Small Talk was released because it was a natural lyrical progression from NRO. It’s a cute song but it didn’t do anything (didn’t hurt or help Katy). Most people don’t even know about the song or don’t care about it enough to have an opinion on it (positive or negative). Based on Katy showing Harleys in her instagram story over the weekend, I’m pretty sure HIH is coming next.

Something is weird all around.

NRO was strong, right from the get go... and Katy leaves on vacation for the whole summer, letting it die with almost zero promo (yes, bathroom video, etc, but sooo little, no talk shows, almost no live, only a handful of minor radio interviews, the usual playbook was not used). Christ, Taylor promoted the song more than her. Very strange, considering the song was very good. Then ST, with a vibe killing « blah-blah » section getting through quality control, and again, zero promo. Katy hiding away, selling shoes on her social media. Of course, once the song is dead THEN she goes on Ellen ..

Neither NRO or ST had any streaming pushes, etc.

Just strange.

Contrary to a post above, I haven’t seen capitol putting any money into any recent KP project. I actually think she has invested the bulk of her own money from NRO until now. I also don’t see the lawsuit as costly at all, relatively speaking. She is loaded, no money issues there.

BUT everything does seem low(er) budget. The NRO and ST videos while well shot, had very little production values (again, compared to her own standards).

Low(er) budgets, atrocious strategic planning (she has the worst team), lack of commitment from the artist who is always on vacation or selling shoes and apple cider vinegar gives me a semi-retired vibe.

There are however three bright spots:

1) recent music is decent (ST, 365), to good (concalma) to very good (NRO). Numbers are not there (except for NRO which succeed without her), but that’s because she didn’t work the music. She used to be such a hard worker, but now she’s Lazy Katy.

2) her vocals are stronger than they’ve ever been. Stagecraft is very strong too - I was at the Seattle show and it was very good, NRO a great addition to the set. Her show needs new production though. A friend of mine saw her at NO jazz fest and said it was amazing

3) she seems happy, looks great and still absolutely projects « Katy Perry », that combination of loopy charm that swings from charm to cringe and then back again to charming within the same sentence. The numbers for 3 of the last four songs aren’t there, but she still pitches « pop star », big time. And her base is still huge, especially South America & Europe.

Last thought, sorry for the long rant: I am looking forward to what comes next because she is actually more fun to cheer for now than when she was an unstoppable hit-machine

I mean, she obviously has a fanbase, but compared to artists with similar levels of success in the same time as her (Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Beyoncé and Lady Gaga), her fanbase it's preety little, and this is shown by two things: the streaming numbers of her catalog and her engagement in social media.

The streaming numbers her older hits pull were big on Youtube, but since Youtube seems to be decreasing in importance in music streaming each day i'm not really sure she can rely on that (who would have said during the Witness era that Katy's new songs in Spotify would get twice the streams they got in Youtube). Also, her catalog streams in Spoty are not great, and don't even come close to older hits by Beyoncé, Rihanna or even Taylor (who put back her catalog on 2017).

And her engagement on social media... I have already brought up this topic on some forum, but it's really horrible. She has more followers on Youtube than people who watched ST music video. Someone should take control of all her social media. And stop promoting strange s**t on instagram because it's a mess. I really can not understand how she doesn't see the potential of social media, even if it's for selling her shoes.

I think that if we want to see another Katy song on the top (or even top10) we'll have to wait for a miracle or some strange feature with an artist that's hot right now (like Xtina dd with MLJ).

I mean, Gaga scored one of the biggest hits of the decade (and #1 on Billboard) with Shallow. Before that, her last top 3 hit was TEOG in 2011...

I'd love to see her dark singles again (E.T. and Dark Horse), maybe with Travis or Kendrick.

Didn't her last tour sell very well?
Maybe that's where some are thinking her large fanbase comes from.
However that was a tour after a big era...
