The 1975 chart is here, and we're now kicking off the glory era of the 70s. Coming off 1974, this list is such a glow up. The only year-over-year improvement I can think to compare this to is 2018 to 2019. And that isn't just because it's the dawn of disco; every genre came out swinging this year. This year even the peak of the second half of the 70s, but it's a great introduction. Tbh I don't see 2018 -> 2019 as that big of an upgrade because 2019 wasn't good, although really anything is better than 2018. It's pretty far in the rear view at this point (way before I was born) but for a transition from all time bad to all time awesome I'd submit 1991 -> 1992. As for this chart we can just celebrate the fact that Captain & Tenille are no longer at #1 & my favorite Queen song sneaking in at #99 is awesome as well

I forgot about 91->92. Yeah that’s honestly a better example

Other notable year-to-year improvements
1997 -> 1998 (this was easily the best year since 1986) 2008 -> 2009 2014 -> 2015

So I blitzed out both 76 and 77 this week. Idk when exactly I’m gonna post them, but let me just say right now: y’all aren’t ready for some of the changes

The 1976 list. One of the greatest years of all time for the charts. Classic after classic. Even the great songs that were lost on this list were replaced by even better songs. God, that's a stacked list, even for a year as legendary as 1976 (maybe my favorite year in Billboard history). The craziest difference is Disco Duck now being all the way up at #5 - although having seen Todd's One Hit Wonderland episode on the song and him describing how seemingly inescapable it was at the time, I should've seen that coming. But while we did lose songs like The Boys Are Back In Town, You're My Best Friend, Country Boy, and Rock 'n' Roll All Nite, we also got classics like Fernando, Don't Fear The Reaper, Magic Man, More Than A Feeling, Beth, and Rock'n Me that make up for the losses in spades.

Yeah, Disco Duck was way bigger than the #97 spot on the original year end, and was definitely a victim of the cutoff being in October. Of course, if you think that was a big jump...well, just wait for 1977

That 1976 list, both the bottom 20 and the songs that missed, had some really great songs. I’m pleasantly surprised that Wham Bam made the list, but I really wish songs like The Best Disco in Town, The Boys are Back in Town, Strange Magic, and Young Hearts Run Free would have made the chart.
Theme From Mahogany only #73 despite reaching #1 is shocking to me, but I guess that’s what happens when a good portion of its run was in 1975.

Love To See You Baby, Then You Came...these song titles are funny as hell!
But I've noticed how the songs in the 1975 spend a lot of time in the top ten then fall once they hit #1...the drop from radio and retail is annoying

CW McCall recently passed away at age 93. That would have made him 47 at the time Convoy went to #1. So basically CW McCall/Convoy was the 1975-1976 version of Walker Hayes/Fancy Like.

The 1977 list. Another banger of a list. Along with a, um, *fun little surprise* at #1. But hey, even if this list doesn't quite stack up to 1976, the list of enduring classics that made this list is insane. I'm OK with the original Walk This Way getting caught because of how much better the Run-DMC version from the '80s is (don't @ me), but it does suck that we also lost Knowing Me Knowing You, the original Star Wars theme, and Somebody To Love. But at least we got Brick House and I Feel Love!
I'm not at all surprised to see that song top the 1977 YE, in fact I kind of expected it tbh. It is still the biggest Hot 100-charting song of the '70s and had all of its #1 run in '77. Also, it's the slightest upgrade from Tonight's The Night, which is equally as white but also much more unsettling, whereas YLUML is just boring and tedious.
P.S. Yikes, looks like Come Sail Away will get caught between years...

By the way, in case anyone thinks I’m biased making these lists or skew them towards songs I like, let it be known that if I was, I would have cheated Somebody to Love (my favorite Queen song, and one of my favorite songs of the decade) onto the list.
On that note, I think Somebody to Love and Don’t Go Breaking My Heart were the first two 70s songs I ever heard. Because both were in Ella Enchanted. And if you think I’m not gonna post the movie clips to let you see how bad the visuals were, you are dead wrong (Anne Hathaway isn’t a bad singer though)

I really wish someone who was alive in 77 could tell me if Evergreen was a huge song cause for some reason can't see it being huge in that time period.
Also, Best Of My Love is proably the only good song from '77

Plus, theist closely resembles the Billboard YE of 77 @o if anyone thought that is delusional.

I’m surprised that Bread had a Year End hit in 1977, but not Ambrosia. I tend to think of Bread as an early 70s band, and Ambrosia late 70s. I’m pretty sure Lost Without Your Love was the last big hit for Bread, as David Gates goes on to have a career as a solo artist. Meanwhile, Ambrosia is surely going to appear on the 1978 Year End with How Much I Feel. (Holding On To Yesterday deserved much better, though.)

Also, Best Of My Love is proably the only good song from '77 I can remember it getting played on the radio quite a bit, but was it huge? Not as huge as “You Light Up My Life” was in the fall of 1977. That song was completely inescapable during that time period; it saturated the radio for months.

Talking about the Emotions song. Can't imagine that being played in pop radio in 77 when rock dominated the airwaves and disco was starting to find it footing

It would be great to see 2018-2021 version of these that has the correct YE timeframe, being first week of December to last week of November
