Or is Capitol just losing its touch when it comes to airplay? Looking at Capitol’s current pop roster, they’ve definitely dropped the ball recently when it comes to radio: Katy Perry, Sam Smith, Halsey, 5 Seconds of Summer, Troye Sivan, Liam Payne, Niall Horan. None of them are lighting up radio with their most recent releases

Either Dancing With A Stranger or Without Me...whichever peaked more recently. How Do You Sleep and Graveyard both were able to reach Top 10 on Pop (#9 and #10 respectively) but didn’t go much farther than that. NRO also hit Top 10 on CHR for Mediabase last year but missed it on Billboard.

I doubt it but it would be nice to see this squeeze a week into the top 20. Still surprised this is plodding along

She's gonna need another single before the album. If Daisies could hang on, they could wait to launch a single on the week of the album's release to promote both at the same time on streaming platforms, but Daisies won't last another month, I don't think.
The fact that Smile is getting the single treatment in some international markets complicates things, kind of. Are they testing the waters to make it a US single? There's apparently a video coming too. I would... kind of prefer a different song. They must have something stronger. The Zedd song?

I listen to Small Talk and Smile back to back all the time and I much prefer Small Talk.

I mean, I don’t think we can really compare Katy’s situation to Kelly or P!nk. Those two spent years courting HAC/AC listeners, even during their peaks on pop. HAC is literally their main format and has been for years now. Sure, Katy’s had HAC hits but before this era her main focus was pop.

HAC is literally their main format and has been for years now. Sure, Katy’s had HAC hits but before this era her main focus was pop. Very true. Besides, Kelly has only had one HAC top 5 in the last 7 years. Most of her songs stall outside the top 10 or barely enter it. Her last lead had pretty much the same radio peaks as Daisies. So, I don't think her HAC stats are to be envied -no shade to her- As for P!nk, she's definitely one tier above Katy, but it's gonna get significantly harder for her too, I think, especially with songs that aren't performing well overall. Her name and power could drive a bomb like Can We Pretend to the lower top 10, but not any higher. Whatever You Want didn't make the top 10 despite being quintessential P!nk. I feel that HAC is moving closer to CHR. They want to play hits. All the songs in their top 10 are big hits overall, except maybe JP + Julia (and that's why they probably won't make it past #8). I don't think we'll be seeing many HAC only smashes from now on. Even P!nk won't be able to make an HAC #1 out of a song with stats as lukewarm as Walk Me Home's (very similar US sales and streams as Daisies btw).

10 weeks on the chart and still chugging along gaining spins here and there, pretty damn good if you ask me. This has had virtually no presence anywhere outside of radio since it's first week but it's still hanging around. Obviously at this point it's not gonna really go any higher, HOWEVER it's done a good job of showing that pop radio will still carry Katy Perry to the Top 25 with a weak song like this. She pretty much out matched every single from Witness, and despite peaking at #8 this song has had around the same longevity as Chained To The Rhythm. I think this sets up the second single pretty well.

I agree this song has done the job like it was supposed to. And the shoutout to her fans in the Pride video by putting "Walking on Air" into the mashup was a moment.
"Smile" next please. Maybe with a remix.

I heard Katy has been performing whenever she can, I admire her for working hard during her pregnancy. I noticed she doesn't have any songs on Today's Top Hits, even a lower position may reach more audience
I don't think "Smile" will perform better since in my opinion Daisies is the better song. Her label should try sending Harleys in Hawaii since most people don't know about the song nor seen the video, it's like a new release. It should do better on callouts. Anyway just a suggestion..charts don't matter when Katy seems happy and contented

I like that it's sticking around like this. Not only does it show the song's run is organic and the reception is genuinely positive, but it also kinda leaves the door open for a second wind (slim chances, but hey). Go Daisies!

With the album pushed back to August 28, they definitely need a new single before the release. I don’t think Smile would be the best single. They either need to try HIH or release a song from the album we haven’t heard yet.

I doubt that she will have a single in the top 20 by album release date. With that said, they need to move on from this. No need to keep it lingering in the mid-20s, release something else to create whatever hype that can be generated to keep the GP interested in the upcoming project.
