Well seeing as she is about to give birth I doubt there is going to be a new single right now. But Hopefully when she shows us the baby, we get a sedimental song dedicated to baby Perry.

Well since she’s you know...10 months pregnant by now, why not just forego all the live performances and just release the next single with heavy playlist, radio, and iTunes promo? You know, like you’re supposed to?
Now I love the Pride video, and her work ethic is commendable, but they could’ve easily axed the lyric video and another performance and instead spent that money on Spotify playlisting.

Yeah, it's definitely time for a new single. I'm surprised something isn't coming this week to make up for the album delay.

New single next Friday please! Daisies fought long enough, but it's time to let it rest.
And it better be a new song. Smile is fine for a Target commercial and it was a cute nod to old Katy, but it won't do anything for her as a radio single.

Is that how it works? I thought playlisting wasn't something labels could buy? As far as I know, Spotify insists, in all official announcements, that playlist placements are decided by its curators based on the quality, the style and the tempo of the song (any song that has been submitted to them) and then whether the song stays on the playlist or not is determined by the users (how many skipped it, how many added the song to their playlists or hearted it etc). Fans are convinced labels can pay and I think the truth is somewhere in the middle

Fans are convinced labels can pay and I think the truth is somewhere in the middle Yeah, and I'm always like, if it were that easy to essentially buy a higher chart placement, why isn't it done more often and more easily? It's such a lazy way to look at things.

I have NO clue if Payola's going on at streaming etc but nothing is much different than before. Labels want to sell music to make money and find a way to do it.

Is that why Maroon 5 debuted at #1? They're #2 now. I'm all for a miracle coming to erase Maroon 5, but there's nothing eyebrow raising about their placement. Established artists always start off high on TTH and other playlists, since streaming platforms prioritize new music and place it higher to keep the playlists fresh. Small Talk was placed at #1 with Katy gracing the cover.

Sounds the same as radio??? Everything comes back around. I have NO clue if Payola's going on at streaming etc but nothing is much different than before. Labels want to sell music to make money and find a way to do it. I fully agree that the streaming game isn't much different than the radio game in this department. That's why I said the truth is somewhere in the middle. A label obviously has ways to make sure a big release gets a good treatment on streaming platforms, just like they do with radio (whether it's money or just politics, that I don't know about streaming or radio). But that's it. They can't buy a hit. If the song doesn't get a good response, it will be dropped from playlists, just like it'd be dropped by radio. The only difference is that Spotify has faster reflexes. Radio may carry a flop record for a month before they realize it's a bomb. Spotify knows within the first couple of days. And the curators actually liking / believing in the song is as important as radio programmers liking it. The label has to get them on board. Don't we always get candids of artists walking out of Spotify HQ? They probably play their music for them to get feedback.

It's still doing well on the RateTheMusic surveys for all 3 formats, but those evidently don't seem to matter all that much...

In fact, the results there are probably what has kept this from bottoming out the past couple weeks. It's just that those scores aren't given a huge amount of attention since that site allows anyone to take the surveys every week, meaning stans go crazy on it trying to boost the numbers for their favorite artists, and the results of that are very easy to see. Even Taylor Swift's "The Man" did well on RTM.

It feels like this has been out *forever*. That’s strange cuz I always feel like this song is new and forget how old it actually is.

Top 10 on HAC, Top 25 on CHR and Top 40 on the Hot 100 with a relatively mediocre song. Success ✅ Now make Harleys In Hawaii an actual single

Success ✅ Now make Harleys In Hawaii an actual single Using all the NRO goodwill (while giving up on NRO itself) to power Small Talk instead of Harleys In Hawaii is still such a puzzling decision. Harleys would have been a killer as a late summer single.
