Yeah, its HAC call-out was apparently really bad. At least it got top 10 there first...

The fact that this is still getting small gains in August despite being released in May and barely scraping Top 25 on CHR is a nice surprise. I wonder if it’s more of a testament to Katy or Daisies.

HAC is really over it huh? They're dropping it like it's toxic.

This would have been top 10 hit in a busy 90ies radio pop chart, when songs stayed in top ten about 5+7 weeks only.

Ok so what do they do now with an album coming out in a couple weeks and like, six failed attempts at a smash song

Wow I didn’t realize how terrible “Bon Appetite” and “Swish Swish” did. The fact that this placed higher is an achievement.

And NRO didn't really fail tbh Anyway, they're apparently doing nothing. Smile is kinda doing ok on iTunes, but there's no radio push. And on the one hand I agree with that, but on the other hand, since they were going to release 2 videos for it, they might as well have sent it to HAC. Other than that, I guess we're waiting for Teary Eyes

I'm a fan of "Smile" and think it could make a great single or one of the 2 songs she recently teased. One was really good and I'm not usually a huge Katy fan though I like a decent amount of her stuff.

Small Talk will be on the fan/deluxe edition of Smile while Never Really Over is on the standard edition. As for the next single, they should just wait until the album release and go completely in on Teary Eyes.

Seeing Smile do ok on iTunes kinda makes me think they should have sent it to HAC when they started dropping Daisies. That way, she would have a song on radio on the album's release. Maybe it would do ok?
Idk, I'm conflicted. She's already previewed like 5 songs that sound better than Smile, but better and more successful don't go hand in hand.

Wow I didn’t realize how terrible “Bon Appetite” and “Swish Swish” did. The fact that this placed higher is an achievement. No shade intended here, but just from a chart watching standpoint she dropped off super hard and super fast. It's even more shocking considering how high her highs were, literally one of the greatest pop radio runs in history. She had all of her 13 top 5's before Witness, and hasn't hit the top 10 solo since CTTR, the clear turning point. Very interesting.

Depending on which chart you use, Never Really Over went Top 10 on CHR according to Mediabase.

But during this time she also had the huge bulk of her low peaking songs. Says something that most of them continue to chart though! Many artists don't even get that.

Charts aside, even tho she had all her biggest hits pre-Witness, however quality-wise, some of her greatest work is POST-Witness. So who cares about the charts.
