Just after getting a perfect ranking, LBTrocks loses his #3. And gardyfan loses a top five, we're probably cancelled. 😩 This also came in as our second most polarizing song! I don't seek out Beer and Bones, and I can see why it was polarizing enough in the day to not make the top twenty, but there's still a little bit of nostalgia in this one for me. Cody gets a perfect ranking and so does Austin! 🤴

Cody takes his first big loss with this one and LBTRocks takes like his seventh. someguy gets a perfect ranking! The hint was the Ashlee Simpson music video, L.O.V.E.

WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL OF YOU
I am absolutely stunned. "Beer and Bones" is a certified country JAM and easily one of his best!!! As is "Hello L.O.V.E"
I just... can't with y'all lol.

CDL's early top ten loss is here, most of us are gonna feel this with atleast one song. But another perfect ranking for tim ! 🔥 Something about the instrumental in this one reminds me of Tim Rushlow's She Misses Him (but... a lot of songs remind me of She Misses Him 😂 It's like my go-to song to reference). Brand New Me is down to one song, how long can The Little Girl last?

I'm not even 100% this was a single? It was on his The Very Best of JMM compilation album in 2003 as an additional track and the song's wikipedia page says it was later sent to radio as the first single for Letters From Home. However, it's not listed in his singleography so I'm not sure if it was pushed. Irregardless, it didn't chart and I'm not sure I understand how they would've seen it as a good single choice when abortion controversary surrounded Red Ragtop just a few years earlier. I still think it's a really good song though and I wanted to include it here! LBTrocks gets another perfect ranking alongside castleoblivion26 !

Even Then is the first sad reveal for me. It has a solid melody and lyrics, and love the piano production!!

Totally good with everything so far. I was a huge JMM fan growing up and I feel like my favs are all being respected.
Also “Beer and Bones” is not good lol.

I figured that “Beer and Bones” was on borrowed time as it was and I wasn’t expecting it to make it much further than it did. I do think I overranked this though as it was never really one of my favorites back when it was released, but I’ve come to enjoy this a bit more now with the passage of time. I also have to agree with our host that there’s a certain sense of nostalgia wrapped up in this song as I remember seeing the video for this on CMT a lot back in the day. While “Hello L.O.V.E.” has its fun moments, it tends to wear a bit thin on me and therefore isn’t one I want to hear too frequently. I do still enjoy it whenever I do though. “Even Still” was such a non-event as a single that I often forget it was even released. I had mentioned this in a previous post, but I think there were some better options for singles including the title track. And if they wanted to go with a ballad, “That’s Not Her Picture” would’ve worked just as well I think. 26. Cool I'm not even 100% this was a single? It was on his The Very Best of JMM compilation album in 2003 as an additional track and the song's wikipedia page says it was later sent to radio as the first single for Letters From Home. However, it's not listed in his singleography so I'm not sure if it was pushed. The situation regarding “Cool” is all a bit confusing as it is listed as the first single from Letters From Home. My memory is a bit foggy surrounding the release of that, but I do seem to remember hearing the song at least a couple of times on the radio. It's quite possible the label pulled it early in lieu of the title track. Anyways, I appreciate this one more than most it seems and have always liked it.

I'm pretty sure that "Cool" was sent out as the first single, but was pulled pretty quickly for "Letters From Home". It was so long ago that I don't remember exactly the circumstances, though.

"Cool" was announced as a single from The Very Best of John Michael Montgomery, but I don't recall it ever receiving much of any label support - it may not have even gone for adds. I don't think it was pulled for "Letters From Home" though, that one wasn't released until early 2004, a full 6 months after The Very Best... came out.

I've always associated it more with the compilation album from 2003 as that is the album that I heard it on first and it always confuses me a bit when I see it listed online as the first single from Letters From Home.

Look what y'all did. 🙄😂 I remember having the Cover You in Kisses cassingle and it had a one minute clip of this and I listened to it ALL THE TIME. 😂 Looking back, that was just cruel for them to put a snippet like that on there. tim gets ANOTHER perfect ranking.

I remember there being a lot of buzz surrounding "Ain't Got Nothin' On Us" as John was coming off of not one but two very successful album eras. Needless to say, this all but stalled any momentum he may have had as it didn't even manage to make the top 10 on the country charts. Also, there was some head-scratching going on as he used an entirely different producer for What I Do the Best as Scott Hendricks had produced his two previous albums.

I should clarify that "Ain't Got Nothin' On Us" didn't necessarily stall his momentum, but I think he was at the point in his career where there was maybe more riding on this particular era as it would solidify if he would advance to another tier if you will. Not sure if that makes any sense lol.

This was JMM's last single and after multiple singles hadn't charted, it managed to get him back into the top 30. I was rooting for this one the entire submission process so it was nice to see it get it's two top ten rankings near the very end. 😌 The chorus reminds me of another artists final(?) single around the same time, Jessica Andrews' Everything.

Long As I Live tied with the #20 song, but that song received a top ten ranking. 😬 I was a little surprised this got no top ten rankings!

I was kind of expecting "Long As I Live" to be out a bit sooner if only because it seems to be one of his more forgotten hits. Also, while I do enjoy both "You Are" and "Forever", I just happen to have more affection for and connection with his pre-2000 material hence why those two were somewhere down at the bottom tier of my list.

“'Til Nothing Comes Between Us” is certainly deserving of its top 20 finish even though I had put it just outside of there.
As for what could leave next, I think “Love Working On You”, “No Man’s Land,” and “Cowboy Love” are likely to bow out before the top 15.

Cowboy Love is another that hasn't stayed as relevant as some of the other early hits, but this one still has a lot of nostalgia too!

I didn’t care much for “Cowboy Love” back in the day and still think it’s kind of a weak song overall. That said, there’s still that sense of nostalgia though that hits me whenever I hear it, so therefore I put it just shy of my top 20.

This is castleoblivion26's first hit to his top 15. :( Meanwhile, gardyfan gets another perfect ranking along with Kanenrá:ke! There's something about this one that's always made it a guilty pleasure of mine. tim has gotten two of his three predictions right, will the next song be No Man's Land?
