Spoiler alert: Rapstar will get a boost and Polo G will pretty much own the Top 25 of the 6/26 chart.

Gang Gang didn't do much so it could go either way. I'm thinking that the big rap debuts are usually tracks that have been hyped around the internet for a while. Does Polo G have any of those left unreleased?

I love the new Roddy song - I was indifferent at first because it does sound like his work with Mustard before, but with every listen it just gets even better for me, the duo snapped

He's certainly not cancelled since they're playing his songs on the radio again.

Cuz you know itโs true lol For celebrities, there's no such thing as cancel culture I mean, Janet Jackson and The (then-Dixie) Chicks were effectively cancelled back in the 2000s. The thing is celebrities can only be cancelled if the industry higher-ups desire to do so, which rarely happens - and if so, typically only at the tail-end of their careers when they're no longer profitable (see R. Kelly and Marilyn Manson). Otherwise, Morgan Wallen was boycotted by radio stations and streaming services, so one could argue he was cancelled for a while. But his case was an anomaly among similar celebrity scandals, and it doesn't seem to be long-lasting.

Sure, but even acts like Janet Jackson and The Chicks who were boycotted by the industry are back in good graces. The Chicks' last album was very acclaimed and Janet was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Their "cancellation" might've been longer than some actual criminals but they all recovered even better than before

Honestly telling that some of the only truly effective โcancellationsโ in the music industry in recent years were for women saying George Bush sucks or womenโฆ having boobs

^ dremolus - solarpunk Oh yeah, that's true. It does help they didn't commit any serious offense to be cancelled in the first place, but had their careers affected due to personal vendetta from industry higher-ups (Les Moonves for Janet) or political outrage from their conservative demographic (The Chicks). However, they had their momentum significantly derailed, and Janet's legacy was strongly affected among younger generations (thought her team is also at fault here - her YouTube page is a mess), so I disagree they recovered better than before. I do stand by your main point, though, and it's interesting how those who complain about cancel culture usually do so in defense of domestic abusers and alleged sexual offenders, and of course, tend to see no problem in racist offenses.

Hmm yeah, coz saying the N word as a naive hated and manipulated 15 year old is the same as a full grown man saying it. Get out of here with that.

Spoiler alert: Rapstar will get a boost and Polo G will pretty much own the Top 25 of the 6/26 chart. So we technically live in a world where Polo G gets a bigger album bomb than the combined forces of the AM gods themselves..

I think Polo G's album bomb the week of 6/26 will be bigger than the one he had last year, but not as destructive or as high-placing as what we got from J. Cole and Olivia recently.
Migos is also releasing Culture III that day, but they've fallen off considerably in both numbers and quality since 2018, so I'm willing to bet they'll get smothered by Polo G and not have as many debuts from the album on the Hot 100.

That is the difference between accountability and cancellation. IMO, the only offenses worth losing your entire career over are criminal offenses, of which the N word is currently not one.

Holding someone accountable by his actions and give punishment is better than cancel culture. Cancel culture never works in my opinion, it only makes Morgan and his audience more racist and their reaction was to keep the album steady in top 5 many weeks after that incident/event.

I doubt Morgan learned much of anything from all this as he had no real consequence. Yeah, radio didn't play him, which did nothing to really dent his career and his album still held at #1 relentlessly and is pushing toward 2 million. Oh no, hope he somehow survives this cancellation. lol

I seriously doubt MW album was kept high up as a 'response' to his 'cancellation.' If it weren't for Pulse, I would've never known about the incident. It's not like there were weeks of nonstop coverage (mainstream articles/newscasts). The album was already a huge streaming success and seller. I was clear about how I feel about his actions when it happened.
Reality check: the average person simply listens to music they like, often as background noise for something else (while working, at a party, doing chores, running, working out, etc.) They're not spending weeks streaming music they dislike to make a statement. If that was true, then what does that say about people who stream/buy CB, Gooba, R.K, etc.?

^ While the album was certainly doing great streaming numbers it did have a 102% increase in pure sales the week of the controversy compared to the previous week.
And the controversy was definitely big outside of this website, it trended all over social media, multiple Country artists denounced him, songs were pulled from Country radio and the NAACP reached out to his team for a meeting.

Oh no, hope he somehow survives this cancellation. lol He is now and will be forever hated by a large portion of the population, this controversy hit at potentially the most important part of his career. This is the equivalent of Katy Perry saying the N word during the Teenage Dream era or Taylor Swift saying it during the 1989 era. Sure his career is not over, but it certainly took a hit. He has remained popular among the country audience but he was crossing over to pop and achieving huge success across many demos. Getting top 10s on the hot 100. That may never happen again, even if he manages to rise back to the top of country radio. I think heโs been punished, but of course there will always be people who disagree.

Yeah, it doesnโt matter if you didnโt know if he was โcancelledโ or not, his streaming & sales went up significantly following the incident. As Lil Nas X proved, there is no such thing as bad press. Wallen saying the N word and the response to it caused people to support him and drove up consumption of his work, period.
As avabrooke said, it doesnโt matter whether or not he learned (and since he ghosted the NAACP, he probably didnโt), heโs rich anyways and has tons of fans
