it's showing "Look What You Made Me Do" & "Born This Way" kind of gains on radio (perhaps even better than those) without the support those two had from streaming/sales and the public discourse.

this is a lot of unjustified radio love, especially for an artist whose last single peaked at #19 on overall radio (and never made the Top 50 on streaming).

Sales are of course not as relevant as they used to be when LWYMMD and BTW came out, but Bad Habits is still #1 on iTunes, so aside from Butter, I don't know how much more support it can have from sales. Streaming isn't blowing everything out of the water, yet people are conveniently ignoring that it is definitely stabilizing and even increasing a bit the last couple days, currently being #10 on Spotify (staying above almost all of the Tyler and Doja album tracks that debuted above it on Friday), though I don't know how much of this is due to playlisting, and it's also rising slightly to #35 on AM for what it's worth.

And Bad Habits does seem to be at least fairly prominent in the public discourse, even if it's because of many people's views of it being mediocre and derivative, but also because of its eye-catching video.

Drake is yet to chart any songs at #11, #22, #31, #43, #46, #59, #66, #77, #93, #96, #98 and #99 positions on the Hot 100.

TBH a #11 peak hurts. If he's gotta get one, then hopefully it's for some throwaway collab and not one of his actual good songs.

If it sucks, sure, why not. I haven't liked a Drake song since... "In My Feelings" I think? It's been a while. Flopping a little could maybe wake up the creative drive he had earlier on his career.

"Look What You Made Me Do" was breaking all sorts of YouTube/streaming records, getting the second-biggest streaming week by any song after "Harlem Shake" and biggest by a woman. It was also addressing the Kimye drama, so everyone on the internet (that cares about modern music) was talking about it.

"Born This Way" sold 448,000 and broke the record for most digital sales in a first week by a female artist, and did so in only 3 days as it was a mid-week release (and still debuted at #1 and became the first song to debut and stay at #1 the next week since 2003, and sold even more in its first full week, with 509,000 sales). It also broke the global iTunes record and became the fastest song to be downloaded 1 million times (it took 5 days).

So compared to those song, "Bad Habits" is just a regular degular generic pop release and the public interest in it is nowhere near those two iconic pop culture moments.

I'll be very happy with a top 5 debut of Bad Habits. From there, i can only hope it'll have longevity. If not, it's not the end of the world, we'll still get two albums in 18 months, a win for the fans.

i am so sick of Butter being number 1. as an ARMY, it was cool the first couple of weeks but now i see the mass buying happening on my timeline and it's not fun anymore.

also, i do have a question because i'm new here and don't understand things. i understand that at this point, the 1 is mass buying but in the first week or two, we actually worked hard at it in more ways than one. why did radio not recognize any of it? like, why didn't we get a radio push after we hit number one. it's a fun little song. i just don't get that bit.

i'mma need Butter to not be 1 anymore though, so my timeline can go back to being about the boys and not how to buy another week.

If your a fan of his previous work then you should definitely enjoy it,it's easily up there as one of my favorite albums that I've heard this year and definitely my favorite album from a rapper of the year.

@nicky1388 “Butter” actually had an hourly deal at pop radio! It opened at #30 on day one with ~2000 spins, and finished its first full week of tracking at #16. iirc it’s currently #12, and #11 & #10 are landsliding in spins, so it should breach the Top 10 by mid-July at the latest

yes, but i also have a brain and i am not a sheep. good 4 u is the better song. the boys/or their label (and trust me, my two tattoos say i love them too much) have not put a ton of effort into winning over the american GP. both songs were brought to them instead of them writing them themselves. they rolled their eyes and practically made fun of western interviewers on Butter promo.

i love BTS but i also love kpop and i wish bts would go back to being kpop. i miss music shows and things. i want them to get recognized and appreciated but i want them to do that as themselves and no some squeaky clean korean 1d which is what some of this feels like.

it's just army trying to win over the gp and shoving them down people's throats ain't going to do anything but make people hate them just to spite you.

I've always maintained that if you have to work SO HARD to keep a song/album at the top or stable within a region of the charts, that's your one sure sign that most people aren't actively consuming that song/album.

I can understand people making a push for the top spot when they're close enough to it and only need a few more points/units to reach it but other than that, the best kind of success is the kind that's organic because you know it's a reflection of people actually enjoying and engaging with whatever it is you put out. I'll never understand artists who don't get this. You can only fake the funk for so long.

at this point, it isn't the boys who are trying to keep it there. it's a specific subset of the fandom.

the boys enjoy it for sure. who doesn't love a run at the top, but i don't know that they are the ones really pushing for this tbh. maybe they are, i don't know. i think they're more tickled by it and if anyone behind the scenes is pushing for it, it's their label.

also, i thought i've seen reasonable bts fans here before. maybe i was wrong. i don't know. maybe it's because i don't think the world revolves around the boys.
