Do we know what its amazon sales were? iTunes isn't the only place such a song is going to be sold, after all. And seeing as I could very easily find right-wing sources praising the song as a stand for liberty against the Chinese government, it's not hard to figure out the "something" that accounts for its selective viral appeal. go show me where conservatives are promoting this song, PLEASE i would love to see it Amazon is not the source, its not even top 100

And seeing as I could very easily find right-wing sources praising the song as a stand for liberty against the Chinese government, it's not hard to figure out the "something" that accounts for its selective viral appeal. There is no widespread appeal amongst right-wing sources because if there was, videos for this song wouldn't have less than 5000 views! There is no virality with this and if there's one thing we can count on conservative grifters is that they will show up and go viral easily (just compare how long it takes conservative talking heads to build an audience on YouTube compared to progressive channels). Aaron Lewis had several TV performances, Tom Macdonald has his YouTube audience, this guy is just really rich and probably bought the position.

At least with BTS, it was by fans. This is just seemingly just some rich dude buying his way to giving his propaganda more attention.

If the general radio and streaming climate were stronger, and if sales was stronger across the board, a song would need a lot more points to chart, and thus the sell 10k+ copies to get a one-week position on the Hot 100 model would be less attractive.

Your first two links aren't even articles about this song, they're just gateway links to the video which just shows it has 3.2K views. That amount of views wouldn't even be viral in 2010, let alone 2021. Your third link isn't a real news source! It's literally a site run by the Miles Guo, it's basically a promo for this "song"

If you want a more critical source about the nature of the appeal of Miles, there is always this one: www.thedailybeast.com/trumpworld-app-is-bankrolled-by-fugitive-chinese-billionaireAnd this app is driving some of the news stories I have seen pumping him up as an anti-Chinese critic: notmainstreamnews.us/summary-of-todays-gettr-video-from-mr-miles-guo/Edit: Honestly, I would never have known of the song apart from the outrage about it, and it would appear that whatever promotion the song has comes from Miles himself, through websites and apps he controls. I do not disagree that this is astroturfed, I'm just saying that there is at least a small and genuine group of people that is responsive to such appeals, even if they aren't widely known by the general public. 10,000 or 20,000 is hardly a large number in a nation of more than 300 million people.

Do you have any articles promoting his music the same way Aaron Lewis and Tom Macdonald were promoted? He's a Chinese billionaire, of course he has some articles about him, but that Daily Beast article you provided has zero mention of Dance 7. Idk what you're getting at here lmao, why can't you just accept that Billboard fucked up

Billboard cannot verify any of this and that's the problem. We know and they know that the song's success isn't legitimate, but they can't prove it. It got on the charts using only tools offered by billboard itself, and taking it off would not only be very arbitrary, but it could spark a whole controversy, like with OTR, but this time it'd be even bigger, since the Qarmy have actual media behind them. All that they can do, and definitely should do is change the system and reduce the impact of sales. There was this discussion about how searches for a song or mentions on social media or whatever could count on the charts, and while that isn't dumb at first, it could be just as easily manipulated.

"Dance 7" is left off the Hot 100 on the website (would have been No. 88 but is absent entirely): "5500 Degrees" re-enters at No. 100 instead:

Fun fact: While they removed Dance 7 from the Hot 100, it still made the Global charts at #171

By the way, we're not done with the shenanigans: like previously mentioned, the song still notched a spot at #171 on the Global 200, above "Chasing After You".
Outside of that, some weirdness regarding Levitating's credit: DaBaby is missing on the website (despite the attached image being the remix's single art), yet present on the top 10 reveal image.

So it's official. "Dance 7" by Miles Guo is the first song to debut and drop off the Hot 100 in the same week. It wouldn't be the first time Billboard made a mistake, and it's fitting that it comes on the 6th anniversary of Lana's High by the Beach dropping from 7 to 51 on its debut week: www.billboard.com/articles/columns/chart-beat/6664035/omi-cheerleader-no-1-return-hot-100-lana-del-rey-debutUPDATED Aug. 18, 2:15 p.m.: This story has been updated to reflect new chart data, which was reprocessed by Nielsen Music following the story's original Monday posting. As a result, Lana Del Rey's "High By the Beach" debuts at No. 51 on the Billboard Hot 100 instead of No. 7. On Digital Songs, it debuts at No. 10 instead of No. 1, with 67,000 sold, instead of 248,000, as originally reported. The information below has been updated to reflect corrected data.

Itโs certainly up there with the time in the 1970s that a song charted on the Bubbling Under that apparently didnโt exist, but was eventually โdiscoveredโ decades later.

I don't have a problem with it because I care a lot more about a #1 hit that is astroturfed into a YE spot than I do about a song that hits #88 or #90 that hardly anyone knows about nor will remember about after it inevitably drops off the charts next week. That shouldnโt matter. It should be about the principle. If the #88 spot can be bought* and youโre okay with it, whoโs to say the same canโt happen with a higher position? If it happens anywhere, you should care because the integrity of the chart includes all 100 positions. * I donโt know anything about the issue of the song in question so I wonโt comment or speculate about whether itโs legitimate or not. Edit: it wasnโt.

It looks like Tombstone got the Radio Songs' Hot 100 exception to prevent it from going recurrent since it managed to get a bullet there but didn't in the Hot 100 itself.

It looks like Tombstone got the Radio Songs' Hot 100 exception to prevent it from going recurrent since it managed to get a bullet there but didn't in the Hot 100 itself. I think Tombstone avoiding recurrency is due to the release of the deluxe edition of SoulFly. Although Tombstone is falling on radio, it has been in the Top 40 on AM all week, rising up to #29 on the platform today. I think it will get a 22nd week on the chart, but unless radio picks it back up, it should go recurrent after that.
