Has it happened before? For some reason, I seem to remember it being a thing before - though I think it was for the album charts when albums were accidentally made available before the tracking period began? Idk Anti was the last notable album that was accidentally made available hours before midnight, and that caused it to debut early. They didn’t carry those sales over into the official week. It might have been with an Eminem album - and maybe I just misread it or something. Either way, I don’t think there should be carryovers ever so

Either way, I don’t think there should be carryovers ever so The Eminem Show’s release was moved up due to leaking, and it charted with less than 2 days of sales first week. They didn’t count those sales in another week though. Notorious BIG’s “Life After Death” also debuted a week early at #176 due to stores selling the album prematurely before its release date. If a song/album is sold in that week then it counts for that week.

Yeah you are all referring to Street Date Violations (SDV's), where record stores make albums for sale illegally before the opening week, in which case those sales aren't carried over to the next week (I think they should though, because if the stores are violating the record labels' orders as to when they can start to go on sale, the labels have the right to redistribute the sales to the correct week), but I remember there was at least one case, Whitney Houston's I Look to You album in 2009, that registered a few thousand sales before its official debut week (not sure if it was due to SDV's or what) that would have been enough for it to chart, yet for some reason didn't chart until the next week where it debuted at #1. The sales weren't combined into that week at #1, but contributed to its cumulative sales total.

Random. I just saw Paramore's "Still Into You" charting on Spotify US. Is there a viral TikTok on this song?

I'm quite likely wrong. Nothing more than. I've had it up to here with those Squid Game memes. Now I have to see it on the charts too? Watch the show and you'll see why it's being hyped up

At this point Industry Baby not going #1 ain't Adele's fault. Sucks that it's actul week as the most popular song got blocked by mass buying but it is what it is (and he needs to promote the next couple singles).

^I knew there was a relatively case of that, but couldn't remember who it involved. Anyway, 11k CDs from an album ticket bundle (remember those?) for Calm were sent and received before the actual release date and the second week it rose to #2 in the Billboard 200, 5k behind After Hours.
In that same article, it mentioned that Anti debuted at #27 based on two days of streaming and one of sales at Tidal. Also, that street day violations by record stores caused In Rainbows, Life After Death and Destiny Fulfilled to debut early.

Ah the ANTI mess... it's a testament to the quality of the music that it eventually became a really big era anyways. (Specially since the pre release singles failed to ignite the charts either).

Did they? Weren't Bitch Better Have My Money and FourFiveSeconds (which were originally for ANTI) big hits?

FFS was. BBHMM got a decent debut but fell off quickly if I recall correctly, and then 'American Oxygen' suffered a relative failure to launch.

BBHMM didn’t last super long on the Hot 100 but I’d argue it has maintained a solid amount of cultural relevance

Adele’s team going for No. 100 while LnX goes for No.1 - that’d be quite and iconic H100 bookend. since when is LnX gonna be #1? it's probably gonna be Stay again Anyway I'm so hoping she can do the impossible & break Taylor's record If LNX doesn’t get the #1, I’ll be left wondering why he waited until Thursday to put all the versions on iTunes. If he put them there last Friday, it would have been an easy #1.

BBHMM actually outlasted FFS on the Hot 100. That one peaked way higher but legs were not there.

Since the tracking week has ended…did the army mass buy butter to make it not go recurrent this week?

Since the tracking week has ended…did the army mass buy butter to make it not go recurrent this week? Probably not, considering BTS stans couldn't even get up to keep My Universe afloat in Week 3. LNX putting out the 8 versions of IB puts the 20-week streak of BTS holding the digital songs #1 in jeopardy.

Looks like Adele only did 289,487 in the US on Spotify yesterday— that doesn't look great for a debut

If that number is true, not surprising.

Yeah even if she kept "just" that pace all day, that's a 6.8m full day. Goodbye Drake's record

My Universe was #1 on sales on last week’s chart, but I think IB’s 8 versions (even if it’s not enough to topple Stay for the Hot 100 #1) will be enough to top My Universe this week. Even in the unlikely case that IB doesn’t do it this week, Adele will certainly end the streak for good.

Radio might finally be letting go of older songs to make way for newer songs to shine. IB about to finally break the Stay/BH/G4u Top 3 stranglehold. You love to see it.
