Last Night has been at the top of Spotify for months so you can’t say this song doesn’t deserve to be number 1 for 13 weeks. A lot of people are listening to this song. Also it’s not only country fans listening to this song. I’m not a country fan and I like this song. I don’t understand all the hate for this song on here.
Not many are saying that it doesn't "deserve" to be #1 or that the stats don't support this. Clearly there is demand for it, and many people like and want to listen to it. If you personally like the song that's your own opinion as well, but many of us don't and see nothing special about it, so we are just expressing our puzzlement and bewilderment as to why it's stayed at #1 for so long.
it doesn't help the fact that a lot of us live in countries where like 99.99% of people never heard of Morgan, let alone Last Night. But even that it's not an issue for me, I could say wow, this song is so good, such a shame it's not a 10+-week #1 in other countries too, but I just don't see the appeal, and that's fine. I understand some people like it, and the numbers are there obviously, but let us be confused about it, because you can't really put Last Night in the same group of WW hits like Despacito, Shape Of You, Hello, Old Town Road or I Gotta Feeling.

You Proof is still solidly in the Top 20 of streaming after a year. Wasted On You is still around 20on streaming and that is almost a year and a half old,
Anyone surprised just isn't paying attention imo.
LN will be doing over 20m streams for months yet.

Ah yeah, the "Pulse just hates this because it's not a pop lady" obligatory posts. I can come back later to thread, carry on. Nah, it’s not because it’s not a pop lady. If Taylor Swift made LN, I would still question the #1 multiple week run. I know millions of people are streaming it and it’s more legit than Butter, but why this song in particular? It’s not in the same league as Old Town Road, Call Me Maybe, Despacito in terms of memorability.

It’s not in the same league as Old Town Road, Call Me Maybe, Despacito in terms of memorability. Morgan Wallen's first album was a massive breakout moment, especially on streaming, and this song dropped with the next album. It was always gonna be a monster hit and his fanbase streams for months. Even if culturally it doesn't feel as big, the formula currently favors the type of fanbase that Morgan has. Songs that stream for ages even if they don't peak that high get huge runs (see also: Blinding Lights which was never on any single week as big as, say, Flowers, but it just kept going forever). It doesn't hurt that the releases have been very unexciting lately. Who even brought their A-Game to try and snatch number one? Olivia will probably do it for a week but we all kinda expected better, let's be honest. Taylor's horrible remix getting to #2 is a testament to her power because that version is a crime against ears.

it doesn't feel culturally big to gay people, why would it, but I can guarantee it's humungous with the millions and millions of people who listen to country music. 4th of July weekend was all about Last Night. Same with Memorial Day weekend, and Labor Day weekend coming up. Every county fair, every backyard BBQ, every baseball game across the country BLASTS Last Night. It's as American as you can get.

I know people are assuming that Last Night is just gonna go unchallenged again for a while but I'm hoping that Vampire at least puts up a fight, it still has a decent lead over Morgan on Spotify so hopefully when radio catches up there's at least something threatening to knock Last Night off for good

LN is a highly relatable song, while the lyrics may be generic and cliche as some say, well cliches exist and are a thing because they are true. And people relate to them.
I would think relationships, alcohol and letting it all out is a pretty universal thing that most people over the age of twenty can relate to. And that doesn't stop at the US border or ones orientation or gender.
That's why the song works and why it remains big, people get it, people lived it.

Idk why people are debating the quality of a song as a reason why it should be number one or not. There’s literally no evidence to support that ever being a reason why something is a hit. We all wish it but we can all list endless examples of situations where quality songs flop. All a song needs to be a hit (without spambots buying them up) is engagement from audiences and LN has had that now for months. Clearly many of those on Pulse aren’t among the ones listening to the song, so why not find people who are and ask why they like it — or better yet, simply look at the numbers and see that yes, people like the song. No one needs to explain why they like a song and often times, people can’t. They just know they do and that’s all there needs to be to it.

Let’s face it: this forum is about as far from Last Night’s target audience as possible. As in normal people who don’t spend hours online discussing music💀
I personally feel like it’s a behemoth, and at least more culturally prominent than As It Was. Another thing is there a good amount of non-American posters here and for them yeah the song is going to be nothing.

Let’s be honest, people are calling Last Night on this thread “boring and generic” because it’s by a country artist they personally don’t like. Taylor singing a similar song would be a “lyrical genius.” The fact is Last Night is one of the biggest songs of the decade — whether or not you personally have listened to it. Sure the charts are “weak,” but he’s been consistently at 300 points for weeks, beating out the second place by over 50 points. He’s been dominating streaming, digital, AND radio, without being propelled by stans. Facts are facts. No I legit think Last Night is generic and boring, and that's just it. The hook is weak and it doesn't have any energy, it just meanders for three minutes. But I also didn't like As It Was, so maybe I don't know how to pick 'em when it comes to long-running #1 hits. Now if I were to pick a great Morgan Wallen song to top the charts right now, it would be One Thing At A Time. I love that song.

Let’s be honest, people are calling Last Night on this thread “boring and generic” because it’s by a country artist they personally don’t like. Taylor singing a similar song would be a “lyrical genius.” If Taylor wrote Last Night, her stans and critics alike would be hailing it as the greatest songwriting bit of the decade thus far and another pointer to her lyrical prowess but because it's by Morgan Wallen, it's somehow such a terrible song that they can't even fathom how so many people enjoy the song lmao. If Taylor was the one who made Last Night, well it'd be a better song just off vocals alone and the production could be improved too but it would definitely be one of her weakest songs lyrically. I would agree that if she made Last Night it would be less hated just off the basis of the Swifties but i'm not sure if even THEY are blind enough to think Last Night would be one of her best songs, much less the critics. And that's before i even get to the thought of a Taylor written Last Night being called the "the greatest songwriting bit of the decade thus far" which, i think folklore and evermore's existence should be enough to debunk that. I know people are assuming that Last Night is just gonna go unchallenged again for a while but I'm hoping that Vampire at least puts up a fight, it still has a decent lead over Morgan on Spotify so hopefully when radio catches up there's at least something threatening to knock Last Night off for good I wouldn't go as far as to say Morgan's gonna be unchallenged for the next couple months tbh. Drake and Travis could still beat him whenever the hell they're dropping, even for just a week, and Cruel Summer could definitely be a threat long term. And while Vampire will definitely be his biggest challenger since Flowers during March, i don't really think she has the legs to beat him yet, atleast after this week. Now if I were to pick a great Morgan Wallen song to top the charts right now, it would be One Thing At A Time. I love that song. I would've loved if that had been the big 13-week #1 Morgan Wallen hit over Last Night, even while i get why it wasn't (between the streaming post-album bomb being weaker than Last Night and even Thinkin Bout Me, never being sent to pop radio, and a country radio run that stalled out and was then cut short)

I think that the non-american thing is the key in my case, cause i've never heard Last Night on the radio, in a club, or anyone referencing listening to it, while As It Was, Anti-Hero or Flowers were everywhere. It's not exclusive for LN tho, because in the past few years I could name several #1 on Billboard that were mere minor hits in Europe. That said, I kinda like the song and I believe worse ones have reached the top in the last few years.

Morgan should release Man Made A Bar to pop radio next. :) But in reality he will probably send Neon Star next.

Three songs, and it looks like a fourth with Vampire for a week, have been #1 during the run of LN at the top. I'd say the competition is not weak.

Dial Drunk should have had the success Last Night’s having. If the biggest song of the year has to be about a drunk pos talking to their partner at least make it one that’s fun to listen to.

tbh idk why people are so hung up on Last Night being #1 for so many weeks. I get not liking it (I'm far from a fan myself) but let's not act like a song being a dominant #1 dictates it being remembered down the line.
like y'all remember when DaBaby had the song of the summer, not just in the US, but for most of the world in 2020? It's popular and we'll just have to deal with it. Time will tell if it's remembered at all even two years from now.

Last Night has led streaming songs for 15 weeks, I'd say that implies it isn't some obscure rural thing.. In fact while country has done much better on streaming of late, none of it is anywhere near the level of streams of LN. Not even half as strong for the runner ups in most cases. So it's definitely not just the country fans driving this song, Ike any song, if you stay in your circle or silo, you won't hear them or know how big they are. I've been away for a bit, just catching up with this thread today. This post sums it up perfectly. Last Night is reaching beyond just the traditional country market. Last Night is also reaching far beyond any other Morgan Wallen song right now as well. As someone whose favorite genre is Country (and has been for years) I can say that it's a catchy song. Kind of a simple melody but I like the like the way the song ebbs and flows and I like Morgan's slightly raspy voice. Is it great? Not really, but better than average. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. It's kind of amusing how on this board, some people think airplay with its "payola" has too much weight, people don't like the chart games that stans play with Sales, but most people here think streaming is the best and most accurate metric. So you have Last Night, #1 on Streaming for 15 weeks, and some people don't really give it the proper credit that it deserves. Finally, I don't think Last Night is going to break Old Town Road's 19 weeks at #1 record. Yes, Pop airplay is still increasing, but it has already peaked at Country radio who seems to be hopping on to Everything I Love now. Most country songs drop fairly hard on country radio once they peak although there are exceptions.
