I don't believe in coincidences. So when I see that Sabrina has been an active recording artist for a decade and flopping that entire time - then two months after supporting the biggest tour in history, is now breaking streaming records and racking up #1 singles - I'm inclined to believe those two events are strongly correlated. It's not just the new fans she gained from the Eras Tour. Sabrina's proximity to Taylor and association with the biggest artist on the planet elevated her status. It's made radio stations more likely to spin her new music right off the bat, and she's given automatic top placement on streaming playlists. I think it's also made her label willing to spend more money on promoting her, because now there are huge potential returns. I think making everything about Taylor Swift is a slippery slope. She is picking the opening acts for what was always destined to be one of the biggest tours of all-time. Of course she's going to choose artists who are popular, in favor with the public and radio, gaining in popularity (or resurgence in Paramore's case). There's no denying that going on tour with Taylor Swift helped Sabrina Carpenter -- that's the entire point of taking a gig as an opener. But there is statistical evidence, presented above, showing this didn't translate into U.S. streaming increase for her. "Espresso" is Sabrina's own accomplishment. We won't ever know how it would have done sans The Eras Tour, but I believe it would have been a smash hit regardless, for an artist who has been on the cusp of breaking through since 2022.

There's very clearly a middle ground here and I think that's where the truth resides. It's no question being on the biggest tour of all time and pairing personally with the biggest artist on the planet was always going to be beneficial to both Sabrina's visibility and career, but without music that truly connects that will only take her so far. To credit Taylor completely for Sabrina's success is absurd, but to give her zero credit is naive. I'd say the majority of her success can be attributed to great material, hard work, with a bit of luck and Taylor thrown into the mix to top it off.

I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t give Sabrina the time of day before she toured with Taylor.
And I regret that decision.

I’ll be the first to admit I didn’t give Sabrina the time of day before she toured with Taylor. And I regret that decision. I haven't listened to all of them in full yet but all her albums before emails i can't send lacked identity so honestly I can't blame the audience for ignoring much of those. Don't get me wrong, there's good stuff in them and we have made worse material into big hits, but to me there was a huge evolution on the emails album. Honestly if we wanna say she owes someone her success we might as well give that credit to Olivia. The nontroversy between Sabrina, Olivia and Joshua Barrett was mutually beneficial for both ladies. The Tour helped but I do feel she was on the upside before it (which is why she got the gig in the first place too). "nonsense" is still headed for a billion streams and that was before Eras and all. Omg hi kimberly I love seeing you posting.

I truly think this was meant to be a buzz single and was never truly thought of as the follow up single, but then it smashed and here we are. The fact she might have two number 1s before her album even drops puts her in an incredible spot. If they play their cards right the third single might be able to have a major impact with the album drop. So here for Sabrina domination 😍

Isn’t that just what the record company says to save face when a single fails to live up to expectations and they quickly drop it in favour of another single? Who makes a music video and promotes a song but without real plans for it to fully succeed?

I think the official term is promo single, and in the current context it's often meant for songs released before the album comes out that aren't meant to be main singles, but that promote and showcase the album. Of course if the song takes off then the label might decide to officially release it, thus becoming an official single. Sometimes promo singles are even released after an album comes out, but they aren't usually serviced to radio or get high budget promotion. If an artist happens to have a high overall budget for an era, these promo singles can get videos.

Do What U Want was another one - replaced Venus as the second single when it got a better reaction. I don't think it's quite as common anymore, used to happen all the time.

She reeled in the public with the radio-candy song of the summer (Espresso) and followed up with something left-field that sounds nothing like what's on pop radio. And she's being rewarded generously for it. THIS is how you build a sustaining career.

And she's being rewarded generously for it. THIS is how you build a sustaining career. Yeah, let's wait for her second album following her breakout to determine if she's actually building a "sustaining" career, as longevity is rarely ever built in the breakout/debut album. She just set it up perfectly to get her foot through the door of commercial success and it will take a successful follow-up era to set her up for the long haul. It could very well still go either way. With that said, She's 2/2 with me! Definitely the best material I've heard from her catalog.

Emails I can’t send was already her breakthrough era where she got her first pop #1 and another moderate hit, opening act on the Eras Tour. Short N Sweet is her “main pop girl” smash era.

29 adds this week for a total of 93 . looks like radio is waiting since Espresso is still getting pushed to #1.

I'm amazed she got to top the charts with such a different sounding (and very Sabrina sounding) song It's a shame songs like 'skinny dipping', 'Tornado Warnings' or 'Already Over' couldn't be hits but I'd argue they would have had bigger chances in the current musical landscape anyways

I was listening to One of the Boys today and realized this song really reminds me of I’m Still Breathing.
I’ll admit I agreed with the “fumbled the second single” take the first time I heard this but now it’s one of my favorites of this year.

I honestly only knew Sabrina as the older blonde girl from Driver's License. I quickly became a Olivia stan, so I never even bothered listening to Sabrina's music. Espresso was the first song I have ever heard and, after being confused by the lyrics and thinking it was weird, I became obsessed. Now, I see she is very quirky, after she released Please Please Please. That song has now grown on me immensely, so I am excited for Short & Sweet.
