Amy Winehouse late for first post-rehab concert

LISBON, Portugal (AP) -- Amy Winehouse showed up late for her first concert since leaving rehab, giving an underwhelming performance in front of 90,000 people Friday at a Lisbon music festival.

The Grammy-winning jazz-pop diva turned up almost an hour late for the outdoor show. She apologized for having a sore throat, and her voice cracked during the 55-minute set.

Winehouse, wearing a short dress, appeared distracted during her performance. She paused to talk to members of her band, fiddled at length with her microphone, sucked throat candy and at one point dashed offstage but quickly returned.

She had cuts on her left arm, and her right hand was bandaged.

Winehouse's musical career has flourished despite her erratic behavior, missed concerts and stints in drug rehab.

"Hey Lisbon," Winehouse told the crowd, which had booed when she failed to show up on time. "I'm sorry I'm late," she said.

The sell-out crowd, gathered in a park for the Rock in Rio festival, warmed to Winehouse as the 24-year-old sang hits including her breakthrough song "Rehab," soul classics and reggae songs.

The crowd wasn't thoroughly thrilled, though, and she walked off stage without playing an encore. The crowd remained subdued.

Winehouse was the third act of the day on the festival's main stage, coming on before headliner Lenny Kravitz.

Winehouse's management told the festival organizers she would not speak to the media.

The singer is booked to play at a series of music festivals in Europe this summer. She said she is set to perform next month at a concert in London honoring Nelson Mandela.

Amy Winehouse supports jailed husband in court

LONDON (AP) -- Amy Winehouse gave her jailed husband loving glances when he appeared in an east London court on charges of assault and conspiracy to obstruct justice.

Winehouse sat in the front row during Blake Fielder-Civil's appearance on Monday.

The 24-year-old singer smiled at him repeatedly and patted the empty seat next to her. At one point, she mouthed the words, "Come and sit here next to me."

She gave a handwritten note to a court official and asked him to deliver it to Fielder-Civil. No one could see what she had written.

Winehouse told spectators outside the court that her husband looked gorgeous.

Amy Winehouse may suffer from impetigo, drug addictions, poor judgment and bad hair, but there's one ailment you can scratch off the list: TB.

British tabloids are buzzing with reports the beehived blunderer, who was rushed to the hospital on Monday after fainting at her North London home, may have contracted the deadly disease.

A source told UK's The Sun: "Amy is in a bad way. Doctors are still struggling to control her heartbeat but the chest condition has been really worrying them. She'd been been suffering horrible coughing fits and hurling up blood for a while but refused to be examined. Doctors now believe it is tuberculosis and are doing more tests to be certain."

Though the symptoms (weight loss, night sweats, pallor, chills and fatigue) seem to describe Winehouse's recent appearance to a T, her rep insists the skeletal songstress is TB-free.

"She has a chest infection and she had a routine test for TB, which came back negative," spokesperson Chris Goodman tells People.

SOUL singer Amy Winehouse has developed the lung condition emphysema and has been warned by doctors that she will die if she continues smoking drugs, her father said today.

Mitch Winehouse said the incurable illness, which leaves sufferers struggling for breath, was diagnosed when his daughter had series of health checks in hospital.

"The doctors have told her if she goes back to smoking drugs it won't just ruin her voice, it will kill her,'' he was quoted as saying in the Sunday Mirror.

"The doctors have said that if she had continued the way she was going she could have ended up an invalid - she wouldn't have been able to breathe.''

"She's got emphysema. It's in its early stages, but had it gone on for another month they painted a very vivid picture of her sitting there like an old person with a mask on her face struggling to breathe.

"With smoking the crack cocaine and the cigarettes, her lungs are all gunked up. There are nodules around the chest and dark marks. She's got 70 per cent lung capacity.''

He said that a spell in hospital last week and renewed treatment for her well-publicised drug addiction had offered a ray of hope for his 24-year-old daughter.

"If she doesn't go back to drugs, then she can lead this magnificent life,'' he said.

We are praying that that's what Amy really wants. She seems resolute.''

He called on drug dealers to help her recovery by refusing to supply her with crack cocaine.

There is no medical reason why she shouldn't be able to perform at the Glastonbury Festival next weekend, he said.

"If she hadn't done recent shows in Moscow and Portugal she could have been dead by now,'' he said.

"She abstains and regulates her drug use when she has to do a show.''

Winehouse won five Grammy Awards in February.

Ironically her scandalous and unhealthy lifestyle helps her selling albums. I can remember that a few people at work talked about her and her drug abuse and ended up buying her album.

No doubt about it. I always compare Britney's tabloid tailored storylines to Amy's actual lifestyle. It's almost comedic how Britney's career has taken quite a hit and Amy's has definitely blossomed because of their "respective issues."

Amy Winehouse's dad speaks out on Blake, touring and ghostly gran

Amy Winehouse's father has suggested the singer has been getting advice from her dead grandmother as she attempts to deal with her relationship with husband Blake Civil-Fielder, quitting drugs and recording a new album.

Speaking to Sky News, Mitch Winehouse revealed his daughter would take a break from touring in September and claimed that the pair of them have been visited by his late mother in their dreams.

"We keep having dreams about my mum [who passed away a couple of years ago]. Amy had one last night, in fact," he told the news channel today (July 12). "My mum said to Amy, 'I'm not very pleased with you Amy - I'm unhappy with you'. Amy asked, 'why Nan?' and she replied, 'because you're not fulfilling your potential'.

"Maybe my mum needs to work a bit harder from the other side."

Mitch Winehouse also described his daughter and her husband Blake Fielder-Civil as being in the "last chance saloon".

"Blake has made a good effort in prison. But I don't think he's clean now and when he comes out he needs to, and will, go straight into rehab. Blake introduced Amy to hard drugs, everyone in the world knows that - apart from Blake's mum and dad," he claimed.

"I do believe love can conquer all - I think they can have a happy ending. I would say it's last chance saloon if he comes out and they go back to doing what they were doing before. So, maybe as far as Amy is concerned, it's last chance saloon. She's got a serious health problem and she can't carry on like that."

Mitch explained that the singer was recovering from an early case of emphysema in the top of one of her lungs, which could be made worse by anything - including smoking.

"It's negligible, but it could lead to something a lot more serious. Anything inhaled into her lungs is going to cause her a lot more damage. I want people to understand, even if they give her one cigarette, they're causing her harm," he explained.

"Had she carried on [the way she was last summer when she went to hospital] she could have been dead within six months," he said, adding that his daughter was keen to quit drugs.

"Amy's a normal person, she's not under house arrest - she understands what her problems are. She was the one who decided to go on the drug rehabilitation programme," he claimed. "My biggest fear is that she will die - and she wouldn't die from a drug overdose. It would be from emphysema, if she didn't check her behaviour - which she has done."

Mitch Winehouse also confirmed that the singer will cease performing live for the foreseeable future from September.

"From September 6, we're not going to be doing any more work. Amy will be concentrating on writing for the new album," he revealed. "She has five contractual gigs between now and then that she has to do. Then she will be relaxing and writing."
