Wow, this is surprising. I expected "Wild Ride" (thank goodness it didn't happen), "Just Not Today" or "Got A Little Crazy" to be the next single. But since JWIA:P&P was not a legit album- remember that alligation?- I guess they're ready to move onto the real thing, haha.

Yeah, two ballads in a row is pretty surprising. I'm happy though because I like Kenny's ballads more than the uptempo stuff.

In a conversation with Zazie last night, he did mention about a late-1960s song, by the name of Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But Nobody Wants To Die), by some singer called Ellen McIlwaine. Not saying that the songs will be one and the same, but I could see Kenny having it be uptempo, and have that same type of theme, a little bit light-hearted.
Maybe Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But We Need To/Like To Raise A Little Hell)?

Not saying that the songs will be one and the same, but I could see Kenny having it be uptempo, and have that same type of theme, a little bit light-hearted. Here's a sample of the Alison Krauss and the Cox Family version of it. It's probably the worst sample they could have come with it because you hear pretty much no words, but it gives you a feel for it. And this is a video of Loretta Lynn singing it: And in case someone's not convinced one way or the other, here are the lyrics (I couldn't find audio or lyrics to the Ellen McIlwaine version, so I just hope this is the right one...): So anyways, I doubt Kenny would cut this song... I bet a lot of people would flip out if he did, though. And it'd be fun to see radio's reaction...

Yeah, I don't think Kenny would cut that song. I would be really turned off by it if he did.

So anyways, I doubt Kenny would cut this song... I bet a lot of people would flip out if he did, though. And it'd be fun to see radio's reaction... Yeah, you would first need to throw in some Head Bobbin' and some ooh-ooh-ooh-ooh-oohs, and you'd be set. A successful run to #1 with this song would put Kenny into a select company, of one. He'd be the only country act in history to have exactly 15 #1s. Right now, with his 14 #1s, he's in a four-way tie for 30th place all-time, with Johnny Cash, The Judds, and TG Sheppard. A 15th #1 would give him that 30th place all to himself, and then he'd be behind the big logjam of five artists with 16 #1s, tied for 25th place all-time: Waylon, Marty Robbins, Loretta, Toby Keith, and Randy Travis (though Toby might have moved on to 17 if his She Never Cried does as well as I think it might).

I'm guessing a debut in the top 15 or even top 10. Even though I haven't heard the song yet, It's Kenny Chesney.

I was looking at all the listings on BMI for "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven," and I discovered that this song was written by Jim Collins ("The Good Stuff," "She Thinks My Tractor's Sexy," "I Don't Feel Like Loving You Today," "Yes!") and Marty Dodson ("Must Be Doin' Something Right"). Marty made a myspace blog entry about a month ago telling people about it. If the songs these writers have penned in the past are any indication of what this one will be like, I'll love it. Edit: I was reading another one of Marty's blog entries (dated November 2007), and he mentions that George Strait recorded "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven." I guess it didn't make the cut for Troubadour?

I know that, I'm just saying I think Don't Blink debuted at #15, so this album will probably have a higher debut, because of the anticipation and he's had 3 #1s from Just Who I am: Poets and Pirates. (and a #2) It's possible to debut in the top ten since Garth did it last year. I don't see why Kenny can't.

(and a #2) It's possible to debut in the top ten since Garth did it last year. I don't see why Kenny can't. I think the high debut for "Don't Blink" was due to a big push from the label since they released it a week or two before the album was released. They wanted a lot of people to hear it before the album came out to try to increase album sales. Garth debuted at #1 because he wanted the distinction of having the only song to debut at #1. So basically big debuts are possible, but not very likely without a unique situation. I think the debut of "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" will largely depend on what part of the week radio receives it. If it's sent out on a Monday or Tuesday, I can see it debuting in the top 25 with a chance at the top 20. If it's sent out toward the end of a week, it will probably be more in the 30-35 range.

I remember reading an article where Kenny said his latest album was not really a full real album for him, just an in between until they get an album of more new music out. It was really weird for him to say that- especially after he releases cds like that often (ex: Kenny Chesney Live, Old Blue Chair).

i think kenny right now could release an album full of nursery rhymes and they would probably play them on the radio lol That to me is the real tragedy of this industry. You have so many people working their hearts out to try to get in, but there seems to be only so many spots that can be filled. Once you have made it, there is a period of time in which you can essentially do no wrong. I wish I had a job like that...

Country Music Meets Reggae?! Wednesday, July 9, 2008 Last week, Kenny Chesney sat down in the studio with WSIX's Gerry House to promote his concert on July 5th at Nashville's LP Field. Kenny mentioned that he'd soon be headed to Jamaica to film a video for his new song " Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven (But Nobody Wants To Go Now)." The Wailers (yes, THE WAILERS of Bob Marley fame!!!!) will be appearing as Kenny's band in the new video. Kenny, The Wailers, Jamaica…sounds like a little Country Music meets Reggae to us…WOO HOO!! Rock on Kenny…can't wait to hear and see the new project! This is very surprising. Like almost everyone else, I thought that Kenny would release at least two more singles from his current album. That being said, I'm really anxious to hear this. Kenny's become my favorite male artist over the last few years, so I'm looking forward to getting to hear some new music from him, though I wouldn't be totally surprised if this is from a new greatest hits album. That article about the video for this featuring The Wailers is interesting - I wonder if they play on the song, or if it's only for the video.

From Country On-Demand: Kenny Chesney is getting ready to his first new music in over a year with the calypso-leaning "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven." The Sunday August 10th release date may be unusual, but it follows the song's thematics. "I think, you know, everything in that song is everything we all think," Chesney says. "It's one of those songs that says I'm not only not ready, I've got a little but more fun to have, and I think that's a great way to live." Chesney is putting final touches on an album he's calling "more personal than anything I've done yet." Look for Chesney to kick off his XM No Shoes Radio channel at noon, July 26th, with a live from the parking lot broadcast from Boston's Gillette Stadium, which Chesney sold out in less than 15 minutes.

Wow, I can't believe he has had time to make a new CD already with his tour still going on. He must keep pretty busy.
