Thanks very much! I'm surprised that George's version appears to have a very similar feel to Kenny's. But I prefer George's vocal in the clip. Kenny's gets flattened out in studio to the point that it doesn't have any character. I know I've said this repeatedly about Kenny's studio recordings, but it really does leave the impression that he is doing nothing more than singing the notes in the same monotonous way, without any regard for the lyric. I know he is capable of better, because his performance of "Demons" on Poets & Pirates shows that he is. You know, the first time I heard "I Saw God Today," I thought it could easily have been a Kenny Chesney song. It's weird thinking of Kenny Chesney and George Strait choosing from the same pool of songs, though. I can't help but think that both reflects and contributes to increased homogeneity on country radio. To me, this is what makes the vocal performance all the more important -- something that might make the material more distinctive and individual. I agree with everything you said. When I first heard "I Saw God Today" I too thought it would have been fitting for Kenny as well. I also agree about Kenny's voice. I swear his flatness seems to be getting worse with every album.

Apparently Kenny's voice is going through age changes. He's now 40 (and nothing wrong with that) but to day on the charts, he'll have to find songs within his range. I'm sure Kenny wishes he was young again, heck I'm 47, but for Kenny to endure like George Strait, Kenny's gonna have to pick his songs very carefully. George has done it, and I'm sure Kenny will do the same.

Everytime I hear this title, all I think about is the song from the Disney movie "The Aristocats" titled "Everybody Wants To Be A Cat".

i just heard this song today, like two times, and it was okay...but sounds like everything else Kenny ever does...its like honestly, can he DO ANYTHING ELSE?! I like when he actually sings songs that have a purpose, like you save me and don't blink...he really needs to get over with these beachy songs...

I like this, but I hope it grows on me a little. I actually prefer both "Got A Little Crazy" and "Just Not Today", so I would've rathered see one of them get released instead of moving on to a new album.

I'm not too thrilled about this tune either, but I've already conceded him at least three weeks @ #1, so what the heck!!

Apparently Kenny's voice is going through age changes. He's now 40 (and nothing wrong with that) but to day on the charts, he'll have to find songs within his range. You know, I hadn't considered that, but that's a really good point. In case I'm not the only one who hadn't yet heard George Strait's version of this song in full, here it is on YouTube (credit to NashvilleGab via the9513). I prefer George's vocal and I also like George's version better overall because it doesn't have that electric guitar on the chorus (which I don't think fits in Kenny's version). But I have to ask...is that George going on that "mon" riff at the end and trying to rhyme "heaven" with it? Because that was either intentionally or unintentionally hilarious!

LOL -- I think it is George! I'm like you -- I don't know if I'm supposed to laugh with him or at him, but either way it's hilarious.

it looks like 3 songs can get into the top 10 next week (any combo of toby, trailers, kenny, & kid) & they will bump 3 songs (b&d, sugar, alan) out of the top 10 but none of them into recurrent....when was the last time that happened ?

From CountryAircheck:
A deluxe edition of Kenny Chesney's next album Lucky Old Sun will be available Oct. 14, with the standard version available the following week. The "Deluxe Fan Pack" adds four additional tracks, the video for "Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven" and other extras.
--------------
Looks like everybody is gettin' on the bandwagon with these 'deluxe fan editions'. This is the third I've heard of, the first being Sugarland's and now I think Rascal Flatts will be doing it with their GH package as well.

I'm honestly surprised after "Shiftwork" that Kenny and George didn't make this a duet as well. I think I'd like this song a lot better with Kenny and George both together. I do think they sound good together. Their voices have a similar quality to them. I'm guessing Kenny or George (or both) decided that it was too soon for another duet between them. The one thing I like about George's better is that it dumbs down that reggae stuff a little bit.
Also, I'm wondering if Kenny's new album will have any duets on them? I really loved the Reba one (although I know that was on Reba's album, not Kenny's).

#13 to #6 , and only its fourth week on the chart. His fastest rising #1's to date are "Never Wanted Nothing More" and "Don't Blink", both of which reached #1 in their eighth week. Could this outpace those two?

With the current log jam at the top, I tend to think no. I think this will beat the group of contenders from 6-11 to #1, but I think the group of Keith A, Jimmy, and Brad will hold the point for the next 3-5 weeks (4 being my best guess). That would put this #1 at #1 between weeks 8-10. I think the bigger question is whether or not this song will have a long run and keep others like Darius and Kid Rock from getting to #1.

I see it like this. 8/31: Keith Urban is #1 9/7: Keith Anderson is #1 9/14: Brad Paisley 9/21: Brad Paisley (but, I can see Kenny maybe sliding into first here) 9/28: Kenny I see Kenny blocking out all competition until Carrie comes along. That's how I see this panning out.
