eh I still think this is the next #1, and I hope so too for their rock credibility's sake. Plus it'd tie them with John Mellencamp and Metallica for 4th all time on when it comes to total #1s
Van Halen (13) Tom Petty (10) Aerosmith (9) Metallica (7) John Mellencamp (7) Nickelback (6) Led Zeppelin (6)

Since BB Mainstream Rock is a total to Active Rock and Rock airplay, my calculations are that Nickelback should be #3 this week with SIYM
1. Shinedown 2. Disturbed 3. Nickelback 4. Mudvayne 5. Seether

Alter Bridge is better than Creed, hands down.

I really liked Creed's "My Own Prison" album and then hearing "Higher" five times a day on the radio in the Summer of '99 dropped their interest in my mind quite a bit, but I still bought all of their albums.

Alter Bridge is better than Creed, hands down. Ha, Alter Bridge could never do anything on the level of the MOP album. That's an amazing album that most people don't give a chance because they view Creed as doing nothing but Arms Wide Open type of songs, when really 90% of their stuff is nothing like that.

Alter Bridge has 1 great song (Open Your Eyes) while Id classify 3 Creed songs as great (Higher, My Sacrifice, One Last Breath) with a ton of good ones as well

That's an amazing album that most people don't give a chance because they view Creed as doing nothing but Arms Wide Open type of songs, when really 90% of their stuff is nothing like that. Agreed. Much of the critical backlash they suffered after conquering Top 40 radio on their sophomore outing was undeserved. It's easy to dismiss anything they touched as faceless cookie-cutter MOR pandering, but "My Own Prison" is actually among the strongest debut albums of their genre in the past fifteen years. "One" is one of the most powerful anthems to top the Active Rock chart in that same time frame, with "What's This Life For?" close behind. "Unforgiven" and "Pity For A Dime" are powerful album tracks as well. Even on their inferior final album "Weathered", the album tracks (with the exception of "Hide" and arguably "Lullaby") are generally superior to album tracks of most other artists of their genre. Stapp's vocals are quite strong on the riff-heavy "Stand Here With Me" and "Who's Got My Back" was about as epic as anything they had ever produced, where Tremonti gets to exercise his musical proficiency a bit more. It's completely understandable how Stapp's repeated transgressions and egotism frustrated legions of fans. But when you separate Stapp's immaturity in his personal life and their once-upon-a-time commercial dominance from the music itself, Creed was above-average among their genre. To the credit of Alter Bridge, however, I thought "Blackbird" was an impressive sophomore record. Their debut had its moments, including a powerful debut single with a great Tremonti solo and several album tracks like "Metalingus", but I found it a generally forgettable first record, whereas much of Tremonti's best musicianship ever is heavily featured on "Blackbird", and Kennedy's vocal range is also showcased quite well there. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The title track to "Blackbird" is their best song to date, in my opinion, up there with Creed's best. "Wayward One" and "White Knuckles" also are up there. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

"Weathered" pales in comparison to both other Creed albums and both Alter Bridge albums. In principle I like Alter Bridge better, but Creed's first two albums have some very good tracks.

I'd rather listen to Alter Bridge's Blackbird instead of Creed's Greatest Hits, and I do enjoy their GH collection. When I think of Creed I think of 3 great songs (Higher, My Sacrifice, One Last Breath) and I'm willing to argue that With Arms Wide Open may also be in that category.
But still, on Blackbird alone there is much better material. Rise Today was a sick lead single, however it was a bad representation of the album because the album was WAY better as a whole (My top album of 07).
Creed could never get away with a great ballad like Watch Over You or Blackbird, but Alter Bridge pulls it off to near perfection. To me, With Arms Wide Open is more reminiscent of a pop ballad than a rock one, either way it doesn't stand up to the aforementioned Alter Bridge tunes. The reason(s) for that being the sheer versatility of Kennedy's vocals, and the fact that they're more "band-centered" as opposed to being the Scott Stapp show.
The harder songs are also better, I'd like to see what would've happened if Tremonti wanted to put a song like White Knuckles on a Creed album. The emotion and intensity of songs like Buried Alive and One By One cement the fact that Alter Bridge is far from Creed 2.0.
I'll give Creed this, they are better at the mid-tempo songs that combine catchiness with a strong musical base. Higher and My Sacrifice are the perfect pop-rock songs, and unfortunately Alter Bridge hasn't been able to have many songs come close. Before Tomorrow Comes and Open Your Eyes show they have that potential, however I think the reason they're straying away from that is because it's the sound that made Creed, Creed.

On the other hand, "Torn" aside, I found "My Own Prison," "What's This Life For," and "One" to be pretty bland, especially considering it came out when grunge-inspired music generally was finally loosening its stranglehold on Alternative radio. And I enjoy a lot of grunge and grunge-inspired bands, but enough was enough by that point. And then here comes Creed.

Don't get me wrong, I like Alter Bridge as well, though mostly the One Day Remains album (I've never warmed up to the Blackbird album, Watch Over You aside). For me the great AB songs would be: In Loving Memory, Broken Wings, Watch Over You, Metalingus, Down to My Last, and Open You Eyes plus an additional 3-5 songs that I like. Whereas the great Creed songs for me are: Torn, My Own Prison, What's This Life For, Pity For a Dime, One, Unforgiven, Are You Ready, Higher, With Arms Wide Open, My Sacrifice, One Last Breath, Weathered, Hide, and Don't Stop Dancing plus an additional 5 or so good songs. So there's just quite a few more Creed songs that I like compared to AB, plus overall I like Stapp's voice better than Kennedy's (though Kennedy is obviously miles above Stapp as a person needless to say).

And speaking of Alter Bridge, was Watch Over You ever sent for CHR adds? I see that it's been climbing right now over on HAC. I've always thought it could be huge on pop/hac.

I've never really liked Nickelback, but I kinda liked Gotta Be Somebody, and I'm actually really liking this. I just hate their songs that sound like How Remind Me part 5476.

How You Remind Me is actually a really good song. It's a shame it's acquired such a stigma.

How You Remind Me wasn't bad, but its 4000 clones were. haha Well, some of them were okay, but once Far Away came along, I felt like How You Remind Me had gone Top 10 atleast once a year since its release.

That's unfair. Well, almost. Kind of.
As much as people like to pan the similarities between "How You Remind Me", "Someday", and "Far Away", there really aren't that many beyond the similarity that a lot of Active Rock ballads have. I mean, "Far Away" is very light, very mellow, and "Someday" is very upbeat, and "How You Remind Me" is very snarky and angry. I mean, technically I know there's supposed to musically be similarities, but I think the songs are different enough to stand apart. I think people tend to forget how "How You Remind Me" really sounded when they make these comparisons. Or they just don't care cause they hate Nickelback anyway, wonk wonk.

True. They don't sound incredibly similar, but it wasn't different enough for me to not feel like i had heard it before. Which was the problem for me. I mean, I never fully hated them, but I never felt like they were anything spectacular either.
