Finally, I was really looking forward to seeing Randy Travis get another #1, his first in six years since Three Wooden Crosses. He doesn't get many chances to add to his chart stats these days, and this appeared to be a golden opportunity when he hitched his trailer onto a current superstar. He needs to get on the phone pronto, and offer his vocals to Taylor in a cover of Forever And Ever Amen, or to Sugarland for a cover of On The Other Hand... That's what dissappoints me the most about this as well. Honestly, I don't really care that Carrie didn't make #1, because she has already had more than her share of #1's, but Randy doesn't have many, if any, more chances to hit the top. Hopefully the success of this will drum up some interest in his next solo release, but I'm not holding my breath. I also don't think this will scare off from releasing more traditional-leaning songs, nor do I think doomsday has come for traditional sounding country. Arista still gets to boast this as a #1, plus the song did very well in downloads (especially considering it's the 5th single), and CR has been holding pretty steady on the album's chart. So from Arista's perspective, I'd say they have to be pretty happy with the performance of this single. And since Carrie appeared to be the one behind the release of this, I see no reason why we won't see more songs like this released in the future from Carrie, and I really hope we do.

This was probably the best choice for a fifth single. Im so happy for everything it has done for Carrie, "Carnival Ride", and country music in general

I guess everyone can agree that, one way or another, Carrie has 10 #1 songs in a row, which is really good!! Go Carrie!

Yes, I think we all recognize Carrie's streak of 11 #1 songs in a row. No female artist has ever matched that run of a dozen consecutive #1 songs, and I'm not sure anyone ever will. Face it -- you may be a grandparent, telling your grandkids where you were when Carrie got her 13th in a row with I Told You So.
But will she be able to repeat her success, and post her 15th in a row next?

That's your prerogative but it doesn't mean it's any more valid then mediabase! If it's good enough for Lon Helton then it's good enough for me.

But will she be able to repeat her success, and post her 15th in a row next? * giggles helplessly* In fairness to musicrocks, I believe he was basing his assertion off an Arista Nashville/Underwood press release that is getting picked up by numerous outlets, Music Row among them. Peter Cronin explains the news item thusly:The ten #1 singles would thus be the nine that Carrie has released and promoted to country radio, as well as the atrocious song she released as her Idol coronation single, which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot-100 on the strength of physical and digital sales but was not promoted to country radio (Arista New York promoted it to AC radio). Call it seven #1s, nine, or ten...the appropriate chart modifiers (like Billboard/ R&R, Mediabase/Country Aircheck, etc.) could save us an infinite amount of circular argument. If only... ETA: Hey, if there are people who swear by Radio & Records, would they claim Carrie has eight #1s, since "Don't Forget to Remember Me" made #1 when Radio & Records was still based on Medibase?

Cary at CF said that Carrie broke a Mediabase record for 5 number 1's on a country album for a Female solo Artist.
So even though Carrie didn't get the billboard record, she did break the Mediabase Record.
Carrie now stands as the only Female in history with 5 number 1 hits off a single country album.
Pretty great, if you ask me. I just wish she had it on Mediabase too.

Does it really matter anyway? I mean, look at the loops that UMG jumped through (on more than one occasion) to get George to 50 #1 hits and Reba to 33 #1 hits. For God's sake, they counted CMT countdowns!! Ok, well maybe not, but they used every chart in the book to find a #1 for these artists.
Personally, I swear by the Billboard Bible. And by that, I mean, if the song hit #1 on Billboard, it was a #1. But there's more to it than that. Does "Forever and For Always" equate into Shania's total of #1 hits? Generally, no, because I'm posting on a country forum and am only looking at Twain songs that hit #1 on the Hot Country Singles chart (For those who don't know, "Forever" spent 10 weeks at #1 on the AC Radio chart).
But I can see that Carrie has eleven #1s if you count all the charts -- Billboard/R&R (now the same thing), Mediabase/R&R (where "Don't Forget" hit #1), and Mediabase/Country Aircheck (where "Told You" is #1).
There are plenty of ways to count #1 hits, but the matter of the fact is, when all is said and done, it's who's doing the counting that matters. If Shania Twain gets put into the Country Music Hall of Fame, her plaque will probably mention that Come On Over sold over 20 million copies. In reality, the album shipped that many copies, but has just sold over 15 million. But who's counting?

I saw 11 listed up above, so I just used it. I actually didn't count. I should be studying moral philosophy, so cut me some slack. But if you wanna get serious, let's count "I'll Stand By You" and "Praying For Time" going #1 on iTunes. ;) Like I said, any way you can....

but iirc, itys was the single that actually increased the sales of cr As I've said before, this is misleading. CR increased in sales because Carrie had 3 high-profile appearances - ACMs, AI, and Oprah - within a matter of weeks. Take those appearances out, and her sales wouldn't have increased like they did. You can't really credit "ITYS" for that.

10 number ones in a row. 9 in a row on the country charts. 5 number ones from one album.
No matter how you slice it, that's pretty darn good. Congrats Carrie and congrats to all her fans that call in to radio and request and who buy her cds by the millions.

So Carrie officially has 8 #1 songs and unoficially 10 #1 songs? or is it 9? I feel kinda lost.

Billboard/R&R country chart: (7) #1 singles and (2) #2 singles (The 10th song you're hearing about is "Inside Your Heaven" -- which debuted at #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 due to sales right after American Idol -- but it was never released as a single to country radio) Hope this helps clear things up for you! :)
