Today, it reached top 50 on Mediabase Alternative: - 43 DAVE MATTHEWS BAND Funny The Way It Is 219 - 219 0.791 29 stations playing. Oh wow, #43 already! That's so cool, as this is such a deserving song and I wasn't sure how much or if Alternative radio would welcome them back this time.

^That, and it seemed to me from reading the early part of this thread that it wasn't even going for adds at Alternative. So it's a nice and pleasant surprise to see this on the chart. See if this can keep it up. It's doing it without KROQ! :)!

This is really good considering American Baby never touched the Alt top 40

This is really good considering American Baby never touched the Alt top 40 "American Baby" peaked at #37 for 2 weeks and spent a total of 12 weeks in the Top 50 back in the spring of '05. Not talking to myself here... If you meant "Modern Rock," say "Modern Rock."

This is really good considering American Baby never touched the Alt top 40 Then again, R.E.M also went at least one recent album era without even impacting this chart, with other veteran artists like Oasis well surpassing peaks their most recent era compared to previous eras. The bottom line is, the Dave Matthews Band will remain a recurrent staple on enough Alternative stations to help buoy subsequent lead singles at least onto the chart. Sincerely, Noah Eaton

No, because Funny The Way It Is isn't on Modern Rock yet, I was talking Alternative because I know that this is already on alternative, I just dont even remember American Baby making the top 40

^IMO American Baby was much more pop-leaning than FTWIS (esp. lyrics) - basically thinkin almost all major/moderate-sized markets will play this so a lot of Alternatives'll pick it up if there's no big Triple A or "Modern" Hot AC in that city

Parts of this song remind me of 'Gravedigger' for some reason.

Parts of this song remind me of 'Gravedigger' for some reason. I think it's the way Dave sings on the track that reminds you of "Gravedigger". Musically, I find little in comparison between these two tracks, but in terms of the notes Dave hits vocally, it's strikingly similar. Actually, I have to say I find the bridge and outro musically reminiscent of "I Did It". Sincerely, Noah Eaton

The way the drums first kick in reminds me of the way they do in "Crush".
Well it's up to #31 now and heating up. This is fun to watch and I hope I'm not ultimately let down like I have been in the past with so many songs with strong starts. Although I would never have predicted a top 30 showing for them before hearing the song. Two weeks ago I wasn't even considering the idea of them making the chart. So I guess that's something to feel positively about even if the song starts sinking now.

Now why'd you have to say that. I'm not a huge DMB fan but this is a cool song, and it's nice to see it charting.
Also, itunes has added an itunes pass for the album. This is the third "Pass" (as far as I know), but I haven't had any desire to get the Depeche Mode or The Fray passes. The concept seems interesting though.

Heck, it's even getting adds at active rock. This song is fairly likable. I could see this getting played by a majority of the alternative panel and going top 50 at active rock within a month or two.

You get various extras. With this pass, you get: b-sides, live tracks, the music video for the single, and other videos

Enjoying this. A little different, but I like the meaning behind it, plus the chorus is pretty groovy. xD

Considering "American Baby" flopped hard on the format, yes, this is really good

^IMO this one's got meaning to it...American Baby really didn't mean much of anything (except a pop song) - also a bit more complex instrumental stuff on this track

I don't think it'll hit the top 10. This is doing about as well as "Wrong" started out a few weeks ago. I'll go with #13.

I think it'll do better than "Wrong" because it will have more young fans behind it, and the song will do well at multiple formats. This song unlike "Wrong" will actually be a popular hit in my opinion. I think top 10 is realistic if KROQ ever gets behind this.
